"Hello, Sir?" the voice called softly. "I believe I am speaking with Peter Graham?"
Peter frowned, trying to remember if he was missing something. He was Peter, but Graham? Certainly not him. These scammers were getting more creative by the day. Too bad... the guy couldn’t even get his name right. He scoffed, already knowing how these things went. "I'm sorry, wrong number." He ended the call and sighed heavily, still thinking about his miserable life when the same number called for the tenth time. "What the heck is wrong with this person?" he muttered in complete annoyance. "I am not Peter Graham." He picked up the call to explain one last time to this weirdo before blocking the number. "Please stop calling me or I'll block and report your number. I am not—" "Please hear me out, Sir," the voice cut in before he could end the call. "You're Peter Lawson. You study business at Primeton University. You're twenty-one years old and live with your grandmother. You're currently in the hospital because you got into a fight with your debtor." The voice spoke softly, and it creeped the hell out of Peter. "What the—?" He was utterly shocked. Who was this person who knew every detail of his life, even to his daily activities? Maybe it was Troy’s father calling from an unknown number to finish what his son had started. But the voice kept addressing him as "Sir." There was no way someone as powerful as Troy’s father would call him that. "Who are you?" Peter finally asked, now curious to hear more. He still strongly believed this was just another jobless scammer with a new scheme. "Thank you, Sir, for giving me the opportunity," the voice continued, making Peter even more uncomfortable. "Will you stop calling me that and tell me what the hell you want?" he barked. "My name is Oscar Valerie. I am the family butler of the Grahams," the man said. "Family butler? Of the Grahams?" Peter tried piecing it together, but nothing added up. "Sorry, Sir, but I don’t know anyone by the name Graham," he dismissed, but the man pressed on. "I know. That is why I called... to explain," Mr. Oscar said. "I know this is going to sound unbelievable, but I want you to believe it is completely true." "Your real name is Peter Graham, not Peter Lawson. You are the second child of Sir Thomas Graham and his wife Margaret. You’ve been missing for over twenty-one years, and now I have finally found you..." "What is this?" Peter interjected, completely confused. "You're trying to tell me that I am the son of some rich man and my real family is actually wealthy?" "Yes, Sir," Mr. Oscar replied. "In this country, there are only four families of such power and caliber. Your family is the first richest household, with an accumulated net worth of over five hundred billion dollars." "Mhmm... Do I look stupid to you?" Peter muttered with a scoff. "Just get to the part where you ask for my bank card details, because this is getting really ridiculous." "Sir, this is not a joke, nor is it a scam. Your family is worth over five hundred billion dollars and is listed on Forbes as one of the most powerful families in the world. You can check it for yourself and see that I am telling the truth." "So you're trying to tell me that I am the son of Thomas Graham and suddenly a rich kid? Please don’t call this number again or I’ll report you to the police," Peter murmured as he tried to end the call again. This cock-and-bull story was starting to give him a headache. "Your medical bills have been paid in full, Sir" Mr. Oscar yelled before Peter could hang up. "What did you just say?" he asked slowly, as if he hadn’t heard clearly. "Master Peter, your hospital bills have been settled," Oscar repeated. "This is not something that can be discussed over the phone. We need to meet at the family estate." This man must be crazy. Now he wanted to kidnap him by claiming he had paid the bills? Peter was too smart for that. He would have to try a little bit harder. "So now you want to kidnap me? You scammers never fail to amuse me. This is real life, not some movie or web-book. You called me out of nowhere claiming I’m some billionaire kid, and now you want me to meet you? I don’t even know if you’re lying," he echoed. "I know this is a lot, Sir, but I’m sure after we meet, you will begin to understand what I mean," Oscar said. "I’ve sent a vehicle to St. James Medical Center, the hospital where you are currently. They will pick you up, and you will see for yourself that it is true." Before Peter could respond, a soft knock echoed on the door. "Pa! Pa! Pa!" He immediately ended the call to see who was knocking. "Who is it?" he asked softly. The door creaked open as a doctor stepped inside with a file in her hand. "Good morning, Sir. I see you’re finally awake." She approached him, checked the IV drip, and took his hand to check his pulse. She then placed the cold tip of her stethoscope on his chest to listen to his heart rate while scribbling notes. "Your heart rate is perfect, and your pulse is fine. Your bills have also been settled, so you’re free to go home," the doctor said with a smile. "Wait, my bills have been paid?" he asked, surprised and stunned. "Yes, Sir. In full." "By who?" he asked curiously. "The payer was anonymous, so I can’t tell you, Sir." Peter was shocked. The man from earlier had been telling the truth. He had actually settled the bills. Does this mean he was really Peter Graham? The thought was incredibly delusional, but he couldn’t help considering it. "Just make sure to take your medications. The slight pains will disappear in a few days. Return next week for a proper check-up and X-rays. I’ll call the nurses to give you your final injections and clear you," she said gently. Peter nodded and thanked her. She then took her leave, leaving him alone with his thoughts. After a few minutes, the nurses arrived with a tray of medications and a syringe. He received his final injections as they cleared him. Mr. Oscar had said he sent a vehicle to pick him up, so Peter decided to wait outside to see what this man was really up to. One thing was certain: if this was a scam or a kidnapping, he had nothing to lose. His life was already miserable, and nobody would pay any ransom on his behalf anyway. It would simply be a failed kidnapping. He sat on the bench outside the hospital, enjoying the fresh breeze, when he decided to learn more about the Graham family. He knew they were popular, he had seen them on the news before, but it had never interested him since it was rich people’s business. He scrolled on his phone, his eyes catching their boldly displayed net worth: $500 Billion. That was an insane amount of money. He tried scrolling further to read more about the family when three sleek, expensive vehicles pulled up right in front of him: two black SUVs and a Ferrari sports car. ''No way these cars are here for me. This has to be some big misunderstanding," Peter muttered to himself as he stared in disbelief.Latest Chapter
Chapter 061 ~ You're Under Arrest
“What?!” Troy's jaw dropped, his expression shrouded in surprise. “Officers, do you know what you’re saying? I am Troy Williams, son of the Dean of this university, and Punch was my friend.” Investigator Dominic nodded. That connection was perhaps even more reason for his arrest. “We know that. But we received an anonymous video of your confession. We also reviewed the school CCTV cameras from that day and discovered that you once threatened to kill Punch.” They played a video from a phone. Everyone nearby, especially Troy, was left in disbelief. That day, when Troy ordered Punch to attack Peter in front of the whole class despite his injuries, Punch had refused, afraid of what else Peter could do to him after the terrible beating he had already received. The video from the phone showed Punch barging into the restroom, breathing heavily, hands placed on the counter as he tried to steady himself. Minutes later, Troy stormed into the restroom, filled with anger. He grabbed Punch b
Chapter 060 ~ Public Rejection
Flashbacks from the past two years of his life came flooding back. Peter remembered when he first met Sophia. How kind she had been to him when they bumped into each other for the first time at the cafeteria. He was so cute and naive back then that they became instant friends. Peter used to be mocked by other girls because of how he looked and dressed, despite being a very handsome young man. In fact, it was that cuteness of his that drew Sophia closer to him in a romantic way. What started as friendship slowly turned deeper, and before they knew it, they became lovers. Sophia wouldn’t end the day without long hours of talking with Peter. They would chat and sometimes fall asleep on the phone. That was how deep their love for each other had been. So… would he be wrong if he accepted her back? She used to be his first love, the first woman he ever bought an ice cream for. He had deeply loved her in the past and was ready to sacrifice everything for her sake at any time. Ba
Chapter 059 ~ Beginning of Sophia's Downfall
[BACK IN THE PRESENT] “Meet my new girlfriend, Paige Carter. I know you’ll be delighted to hear this news because it’s something you’ve always wanted, so I give you this one. You won.” Troy mocked, his hand wrapped around Paige's waist. “Your new girlfriend?" Peter asked, not entirely surprised. "I thought you were dating Sophia? What happened, Troy? Don’t tell me you’re down for polygamy.” Troy scoffed, taking a quick glance at the woman beside him as he said, “Funny, but no. My woman doesn’t like to share her meal.” “Which of them? Sophia or her?” Peter asked, triggering yet another round of murmurs from the gathered crowd. The students loved drama. I mean, who needed a N*****x subscription when you could always watch one every day in school? “Exactly, which one of them is actually his woman?” a voice said. “Is he a two-faced boyfriend? Does he now service two women at the same time?” “Wait until Sophia finds out. I can’t wait to see the look of humiliation on her face.” anoth
Chapter 058 ~ Paige Carter
It was a brand new day. The morning sun was already up, and Peter, despite spending the night in his soft, comfortable, extra large, king size bed, didn’t dare think about making the same mistake he had made the other day—sleeping past his alarm. Today had a strange feeling attached to it. It felt strange but sweet. Peter could not explain it fully, but for some reason he was pumped, as if today was going to be one of his best days yet. Moreover, he had planned on purchasing a house for his grandmother today, after their discussion last night. He had thought hard about something pleasant to get for her birthday but couldn’t come up with anything tangible, so he decided to buy her a new house since he could now afford it. It was also the right thing to do. I mean, It felt wrong that he lived in a massive mansion that looked like a royal house, even larger than a king’s palace, while his grandmother, who had been there with him all his life, still lived in their old, shabby
Chapter 057 ~ Red Flags
Later that evening, around 8 p.m. Peter arrived at the Graham estate. He was going to spend the night at the mansion because of the amount of work he had to do, he needed a serene environment for it.The moment he stepped in, the maids welcomed him and took his belongings to the places they were meant to be.Peter ordered them to take the box to the library, as he would be using the place as his work office instead, despite the mansion having at least five empty rooms designed as home offices. When he entered, he saw Oscar already standing in his usual professional position, hands clasped neatly in front.“Welcome home, Young Master,” he greeted with a pleasant smile. “I believe you had a good day at the office. Your dinner will be served shortly. Please freshen up while the maids get everything ready for you.”Peter loved the idea, but not tonight.“Yeah, I did,” he said. “And as for dinner… that would be lovely, but I’d rather eat in the library instead. I have a ton of work to do.”
Chapter 056 ~ A Threat?
Howard stepped inside the office without even bothering to knock. When he entered, Peter sat up straight from shock. For a moment he was surprised that someone would have the audacity to barge into an office uninvited, but when he saw it was Howard, he shrugged it off. “Mr. Howard,” Peter called respectfully, still mindful of the age difference. “How may I help you?” Howard walked in as though disgusted and slammed the box hard on the table, making a loud thud as Peter watched on in silence. “You requested the company’s financial statements, right?” Howard asked, his tone filled with displeasure. “Well, be my guest. Inside this box are all the financial records, project plans, budgets, and everything else you may need.” He paused, steadying his gaze as he searched Peter’s eyes. “Go on…” Peter said softly, gesturing with a finger as he noticed the sudden pause and glare. Howard took a deep breath, finally opening his mouth to pour out all his frustrations and thoughts without the
