Jaden POV

The sharp crack of a slap echoed through the ballroom, cutting straight through the soft piano music and the chatter of two hundred guests.

Jaden’s head snapped to the left. The sting spread fast across his cheekbone, hot and sharp, radiating down into his jaw. He tasted copper where his inner lip caught against his tooth.

He didn't stumble. He stood stock-still beside the banquet table, his fingers gripping the rim of his glass so tightly the crystal groaned under his knuckles.

Selena didn't even check her hand. She pulled a silk handkerchief from her evening clutch, methodically wiped her palm, and tossed the cloth onto Jaden's dinner plate.

"Sign it," she said. Her voice was flat, devoid of the warmth he had spent three years chasing. "I'm done playing charity for a parasite."

She reached into Victor Vale’s waiting hand and pulled out a thick, stapled document, slamming it onto the white tablecloth between them.

Divorce Agreement. Bold, black letters sat at the top of the page.

Jaden lowered his gaze to the paper, then brought it back to his wife. Three years. Three agonizing years under her family’s roof, washing their dishes, taking her mother’s bitter insults, sleeping on the couch, and keeping his head down. He had done it all without complaint—partly because of his oath to stay dead to the world, but mostly because he loved her. He had believed, with an idiot’s blind hope, that beneath her family’s arrogance, Selena had a heart worth protecting.

Now, she stood beside Victor Vale, her body angled into the billionaire's side. Victor’s arm slid comfortably around her waist, his thumb resting on the curve of her hip.

"Look at him," Victor sneered, his voice ringing out to draw the surrounding crowd closer. Guests turned, pulling out phones, their eyes gleaming with trashy delight. "He doesn't even have the spine to yell back. Selena, how did you survive three years sleeping under the same roof as this ghost?"

"Because I was stupid," Selena hissed. Her eyes burned as she reached into her bag again, pulling out a stack of printed papers and throwing them at Jaden’s chest. The sheets scattered across the table. "You quiet, harmless loser. All this time you pretended you were just useless, but you were leeching off us! You leaked my father's corporate accounts! You sold our shipping routes to our competitors!"

Jaden glanced at the top sheet. It was a bank transfer ledger, complete with forged IP signatures bearing his old laptop's serial code. It was a clean, professional framing job.

"Selena," Jaden said. His voice was low, rasping slightly from the silence he had kept all evening. "You honestly believe I did this?"

"The evidence is right there!" she spat, her voice cracking with rage. "Victor’s team uncovered it this morning! If it weren't for Victor stepping in to cover our five-million-dollar deficit with an emergency loan, my father would be in handcuffs right now!"

A heavy knot tightened in Jaden's chest, twisting until he could barely breathe. The raw pain didn't come from the slap; it was the total absence of trust. Three years of his life, wiped out by a folder of fake documents provided by the very snake standing next to her.

He looked at Victor. The man’s eyes were bright with triumph.

"You're trash, Stallion," Victor said smoothly. He reached into his inner jacket pocket, pulled out a thick wad of hundred-dollar bills, and tossed them carelessly onto the floor at Jaden's shoes. "Here’s five grand. Consider it severance for your service as Selena’s houseboy. Take it, sign the papers, and crawl back to whatever gutter you dragged yourself out of."

A wave of quiet giggles rippled through the gathering of high-society guests.

"Pick it up, Jaden," Selena’s mother, Evelyn, chimed in from the front row, fanning herself with a gold-leaf menu. "It's more money than you’ve earned in your entire pathetic life. Sign the papers and get out before you embarrass us any further on my father's birthday!"

Jaden stood in the eye of the storm. The laughter, the flashing phone cameras, the judgment—it rolled over him like ice water. He looked down at the cash on the floor. Then at the divorce agreement.

Is this what you wanted, Jaden? he asked himself in the dark silence of his mind. You buried your bloodline. You hid your name. You played the fool just to give her a peaceful life.

Something broke inside his chest. Not a gentle snap, but a structural collapse, leaving behind a cold, hollow cavern where his devotion used to live. The quiet, patient husband died right there beside the dessert plates.

Jaden leaned over the table. He didn't look at the money on the floor. He picked up the silver Montblanc pen lying beside the document.

Selena blinked, caught off guard by the absolute stillness in his face. For a fraction of a second, her breath hitched. The man standing before her didn't look flustered, angry, or broken. His eyes were empty—dark and flat like deep water at night.

He flipped to the last page. With two swift strokes of the pen, his signature cut across the line.

Jaden Stallion.

He slid the pen into his jacket pocket, closed the folder, and pushed it back across the silk tablecloth toward Selena.

"It's done," Jaden said quietly.

Selena picked up the folder, her fingers trembling slightly despite herself. She forced a smug smile back onto her face, tucking her arm tighter through Victor’s. "Good. Now get out. You have one hour to pack your rags out of my house."

Jaden didn't move toward the door. Instead, he took one slow step forward, closing the distance between himself and the couple.

Victor instinctively shifted his weight, his smile faltering as Jaden’s shadow fell over him. Jaden was half a head taller than Victor, his shoulders broad under his cheap, off-the-rack suit.

Jaden leaned in close to Selena, his voice dropping to a whisper that only she and Victor could hear.

"You threw away a king to hold hands with a beggar," Jaden murmured, his breath brushing her ear. "You think Victor saved your family today? You'll find out what he really is soon enough."

Selena's skin flushed red with anger. "How dare you—"

Jaden turned his back on them before she could finish. He stepped over the pile of cash on the floor, leaving the bills untouched, and walked toward the exit.

The grand double doors swung open as he approached. Outside, rain fell in heavy sheets against the glass facade of the hotel. Jaden pushed through the doors and stepped out into the dark, cold downpour, letting the water wash the blood from his lip and the heat from his cheek.

As he reached the curb, a heavy vibration thrummed against his hip.

Jaden reached into his pocket and pulled out a sleek, matte-black satellite phone—a device he hadn't turned on in three years. The screen was glowing with an encrypted red notification.

He tapped the glass. A single text message flashed across the screen:

【PRIORITY ALPHA: The 3-year Dormancy Pact expired at midnight. Four private armies, twelve offshore fleets, and the Aureus Syndicate are awaiting your command. Speak the word, War God. Who dies first?】

A bulletproof Maybach pulled up to the curb, its headlights cutting through the storm.

Jaden swiped his thumb across the screen and brought the phone to his ear.

"Freeze Victor Vale’s credit lines," Jaden said into the mic, his voice colder than the rain. "Strip him of everything by morning."

Selena/Victor POV The cold mahogany railing of Courtroom 4B was slick with the sweat of Selena’s palms. She stood in the narrow wooden dock, her legs trembling so violently that the links of the heavy iron leg restraints clattered against her ankles with every breath. Across the gallery, her father sat with his head in his hands, his knuckles raw and red, while her mother’s muffled sobs echoed off the tall marble walls. Judge Harold Vance didn't even look over his half-moon spectacles as he flipped through the thick, red-stamped federal indictment. "Case number 24-8891. The State versus Selena Vance," the judge read, his voice flat and mechanical. "Systemic bank fraud, execution of fraudulent corporate guarantees, and intentional default on federal credit reserves totaling one hundred and forty million dollars." Selena’s public defender—a tired-looking man with greasy hair and a wrinkled suit—didn't even raise his pen. "Your Honor, my client maintains she was misled by secondary

Victor &Jaden POVThe fluorescent bulb overhead hummed with a low, irritating buzz, casting a harsh yellow glare across the scratches on the steel table. Victor Vale adjusted the cuffs of his wrinkled shirt, leaning back in his chair with a crooked, triumphant grin. He was already preparing his opening pitch. When the Senior Legal Director of Aureus Capital walked through that door, Victor would hand over every piece of Vance family collateral, drop Selena and her father directly into the crosshairs of the federal investigation, and walk out of the building with full state immunity. The heavy door handle turned. The hydraulic lock hissed open. Victor straightened his posture, forcing a warm, corporate smile onto his face. "Ah, director, thank you for making the time—" The smile froze on his lips. Jaden walked into the room. He didn't wear the faded discount polo or the worn-out sneakers he had dragged through Selena's house for three years. He wore a dark charcoal three-piece su

Victor Vale leaned over the metal table, his collar unbuttoned, sweat soaking through his blue dress shirt. Victor yelled, his fingers slamming down on the formica tabletop. "Selena Vance brought those documents to my office! She told me her husband had corporate connections. I was an investor! I was misled!" Miller didn't look up. "Your thumbprint is on the digital signature pad, Mr. Vale." "She forced my hand! She and Jaden Stallion framed me!" Victor leaned in, his voice dropping into a frantic whisper. "Listen to me... I know how Aureus Capital operates. Give me a plea deal. I'll testify against Selena and her father. I'll hand over all the remaining Vance family land deeds to Aureus. Just clear my name from the default judgment." Mill

  • The Hundred and Forty Million Dollar Trap

Jaden & Selena POVThe heavy steel blast gate struck the floor with a dull thud that rattled the fillings in Jaden’s teeth. Cordite smoke from Kael's thermite charges hung thick in the air, reeking of sulfur and burnt iron. The six mercenaries didn't wait for a command. Their thumb safety catches clicked off in unison. Jaden didn't dive for cover. He leaned into the shotgun's heavy recoil before the lead contractor could pull his trigger. BOOM. The 12-gauge slug hit the lead man square in the chest plate, lifting his two-hundred-pound frame off his feet and throwing him back into the second contractor. Before the remaining four men could adjust their sights, Jaden closed the distance. He grabbed the barrel of an elevated rifle, twisted the frame downward, and drove his right knee hard into the man’s sternum. Ribs cracked under the impact. Jaden spun the contractor’s limp body around, using him as a shield as three burst-fire rounds tore into the tactical vest. Jaden fired the sh
