CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO

Adrian could tell that it was a woman, but it was hard to tell which woman would possess such authority.

He kept on staring at the lady’s heels, patiently waiting to see who it was.

Finally, she showed herself, graceful and commanding so much authority.

Just her lines of eyebrows were enough to send shivers down the spines of the men, her eyes burned with flames of anger and betrayal.

She was a middle-aged lady, but it was hard to tell how old she was, her body flawlessly glittering under the sunlight.

She was tall, standing close to six feet.

Each step she made was a symbol of raw power and strength.

Looking both calm and brutal at the same time, she headed toward Shane, staring down at him with so much annoyance.

“You had one simple task to do, and you failed at it.”

Shane recoiled, taking two steps backward.

He swallowed hard, looking the lady in the eyes.

“I am sorry, Bianca! But he is not an ordinary man! You needed to see the way he killed three of m

CHAPTER HUNDRED AND ONE “Caius sent us!” The man revealed at once, but because Adrian was not familiar with the name, he turned to the Commander, his expression carrying the curiosity and ignorance inside him. “That’s one of the Bert children, my liege,” Rylan responded before the question could be asked, and the last words he said quickly drew the attention of the assassin, causing him to look at him. “My liege?” He repeated the words with a whisper, wondering where he heard that title.Instantly, it occurred to him, causing him to gasp as he turned his gaze to Adrian, his eyes wide with fearful recognition. “You are the Shadow Monarch!” He muttered, his voice breaking slowly. He swallowed hard, and it occurred to him that he was lucky to still be alive.“I didn’t know that it was you, my liege!” He tried to make a move, but the dagger was a reminder of what could happen to him if he was careless with his life.He decided that it was better for him to remain still while he pleade

CHAPTER HUNDRED Rylan turned briefly to be sure that Adrian was seeing everything, and when he had confirmed that his attention was focused on the scene, he took a deep breath, returning his gaze to the two men.“You first.” He decided to deal with the one in front, the same man who had a score to settle with him.As expected, the assassin attempted a strike, but Rylan was swift enough to elude it before the blade could touch him. With his veins protruding, he retaliated with an uppercut, sending the assassin flying to the ground. When his partner saw this, he charged at the Commander, hoping that he was going to be able to make him pay for what he had done to his cohort. Unfortunately for him, Rylan was still in the same raging spree, cracking his knuckles while he waited for him to get closer. As soon as the second assassin tried to stab him with his blade, aiming for his chest, he seized the dagger from him, pushed him to his knees, and held the blade to his throat. The man tr

Commander Rylan staggered and almost fell to the ground as he was unable to get to Adrian before he dodged the blade, taking two steps backward. “Are you okay?” Adrian asked as soon as the Commander had regained his balance, staring as he took a deep breath. “I am fine,” The Commander nodded, staring at Adrian while he tried to imagine how he was able to dodge the dagger. Looking to his right, he saw the blade plunged into the wall, his wide eyes staring with his mouth agape. “Oh no.” He gasped as soon as he recognized the symbol on the handle of the short blade, returning his gaze to Adrian. “I think they decided to come to us before we go to them, my liege.” He remarked, his eyes sparking with apprehension. Yet, Adrian remained calm, his eyes in search of whoever was responsible for the dagger that was thrown at him. “This is really going to be fun.” He chuckled softly, and with a smirk on his face, he turned to the left, his attention drawn to the silent footsteps tha

“Not at all…” Adrian gave a very quick response, shaking his head. “I will not be there for the party.” He continued, his tone low but very audible. The Commander was still silent, hoping to get the exact meaning of what he had in mind. Adrian cleared his throat, and then he inched much closer until there was just a meter space between him and the Commander. He looked him in the eyes, allowing him to see the rage that was burning inside his orbs. “But I will be there.” He added, throwing the Commander into confusion.Rylan thought about his utterance, but nothing made sense. “How do you mean, Shadow Monarch?” He asked anxiously, hoping that Adrian was going to give him a more detailed response. Adrian inhaled sharply, and then he let out the hot air through his lungs, allowing it to pass through his nostrils. The Commander was still eager to know what his plan was, but he seemed to be taking his time to break his silence. “I am going to come in as a ghost, Commander Rylan.” H

“I came as soon as I heard that you sent for me, Shadow Monarch.” Commander Rylan bowed profoundly until his head touched the ground. He stayed that way, awaiting the moment when Adrian was going to instruct him to lift his head, his fingers almost trembling in nervousness. Silently, his heart thudded, his eyes attempting to steal a glance at Adrian. “I am sorry for my lateness, my liege.” He added, worried that he may have aroused the anger of the Shadow Monarch. Adrian sighed softly, and then he leaned forward, taking a deep breath. “Get up, Commander Rylan.” He said exactly what the commander had hoped for since his back was beginning to make him feel very strange. “Thank you, my liege,” Rylan grunted as soon as he stood erect, and then it was time for him to expect the reason why he had been summoned. He could only stare at Adrian for a couple of seconds before he eventually looked away, careful of every action he made. Adrian stood up from the chair that almost looked like

Maya chuckled softly, but clearly, she didn’t understand the amount of sensation that was going all over Adrian’s body. He couldn’t count how many times he had sighed, holding onto the smile on his face. “Why does this seem very personal to you, Adrian?” Maya finally asked the question that had been nestled in her mind for a very long time. She didn’t just know where to start from, struggling to find the most suitable words to use at that moment. Adrian sighed heavily, and then he cleared his throat, his expression plain and unreadable. “That’s because this is very personal for me, Maya.” He finally broke his silence, but the lady still needed to understand what he meant, staring with her brows furrowed. It almost seemed as though she needed to beg for a response, but just before she was ready to break the silence, Adrian continued with a low but audible tone. “I was forced out of this City by the same people who killed your husband, Maya.” Adrian paused for a while, veins of an
