The agonising weight on Alphonsus Jameson’s left hand burned through his skin like a molten lead.

The Ring throbbed with a slow, heavy pulse, its cold metal tightening against his bone until his knuckles flared white.

His gaze locked on the narrow, shadow-draped service elevator alcove tucked behind the shattered glass of Obsidian’s private foyer.

Beside him, Cindy adjusted her grip on her heavy leather shoulder bag, her breath ragged but sharp.

Lady Diana stood rigid, a smudge of soot stain

By morning, the vault corridor had been secured, the injured guards treated, and Diana moved to a protected room. Alphonsus refused to let the previous night's attack dictate the day. Cindy placed Victor's invitation beside the footage recovered from the corridor camera. “He has sent the edited version to every major outlet. The reporters will arrive expecting a spectacle.” “Then give them facts,” Alphonsus replied. Diana watched him fastening his jacket with his uninjured hand. “You do not have to prove yourself to people who have already chosen to misunderstand you.” “This is not about proving myself, Mother. The workers should not pay for what Victor has done.” Cindy had spent the night speaking with the operations team. The frozen account had disrupted one route for payments, not the entire Williams fortune. The team had verified which subsidiaries could meet immediate obligations through authorised funds and independent operating arrangements. They had also checked the clos

The alarm tore through the estate. Guards rushed towards the underground passage while Cindy ordered the dining room secured and the wounded servant kept under medical supervision. “Stay with her,” Alphonsus told Cindy, indicating Diana. He had barely turned when Victor moved. Victor seized Diana from behind, locking an arm across her shoulders. A man in dark clothing blocked the nearest guard, while two others appeared at the corridor entrance. “Let her go!” Alphonsus snapped. Victor pulled Diana backwards. She drove her heel into his foot and twisted, but his grip tightened. “Bring me the Ring,” Victor said. “Put it in my hand, and your mother walks away.” Diana fought his hold. “Do not give him anything.” Victor pressed a weapon against her side. Alphonsus stopped advancing, not from fear of Victor, but because Diana stood in his path. “You planned this,” Alphonsus said. “I recognised an opportunity. You should have watched your own household more carefully.”

  • CHAPTER 75THE CHALLENGE

For several seconds, nobody answered Victor. The servant’s shallow breathing could still be heard beyond the dining room doors, where medical staff worked under Cindy’s supervision. The poisoned glass remained sealed for examination. Victor’s announcement had added another danger to an already divided household. “You froze one operating account,” Alphonsus said at last. “You did not freeze the Williams fortune.” Victor’s smile returned. “That account keeps your companies moving. Payroll, suppliers, contracts. How long before the people you claim to lead begin asking why they should follow you?” “If you surrender your authority and recognise the elders, I will restore access to the operating account and allow the businesses to function again,” Victor continued. It was not nervous laughter. It was measured, almost amused, and it unsettled Victor more than an angry reply would have. “You have access to nothing, yet you keep blabbing,” Alphonsus said. “You sound like you're be

  • Chapter 74 FAMILY DINNER

“Lock the lower corridor,” Alphonsus ordered. “Nobody approaches the vault without my authorization.” Cindy seized the radio from the guard. “Send two teams through the eastern passage. Keep the family here, and do not fire unless they identify an immediate threat.” The library doors shook again. Victor’s armed men shifted towards the sound, but Alphonsus stepped into their path. “Your weapons stay lowered. One movement towards my family, and you will be restrained.” Victor smiled thinly. “You give orders in your own house as though the world obeys you.” “Tonight, everyone will.” A report crackled through the radio. The intruders had forced the outer vault barrier but were trapped behind the reinforced inner gate. Cindy ordered the eastern team to secure the passage while another guard isolated the vault controls. No one was to open the inner gate. Alphonsus turned to the security chief. “Bring me the camera feed.” The screen showed two masked figures beside the vaul

  • Chapter 73 FAMILY MEETING

The guards moved first, securing the corridors while Cindy guided the children and older relatives away from the damaged hall. Diana stayed beside her. Eleanor was escorted between two guards, her document case carried separately. Nobody had forgotten the unfinished confession.A security officer reported that the exposed grounds had been searched. The guards had recovered fragments from the shattered window and a possible bullet casing outside, but the shooter had vanished. No one had been seriously injured. The family was shaken, not broken.“Preserve everything,” Alphonsus instructed. “No one touches the evidence without recording it.”Cindy checked the children again, then stationed two trusted guards beside Diana. She refused to let panic dictate their movements, even as distant sirens faded beyond the estate walls without warning.Inside the reinforced library, he placed the Williams succession seal at the centre of the long table. Its presence silenced the remaining conversa

  • Chapter 72 TOO LATE FOR CONFESSIONS

The guard's report reached Alphonsus before the woman crossed the threshold.“She is waiting at the entrance, sir. No weapon was found, but she carries a document case and a telephone.”“Search both. Then bring her in.”Cindy stood beside Diana, watching the guards inspect Eleanor Voss beneath the entrance lights. They checked the case, examined its contents, and secured her phone.Eleanor submitted without protest, though her eyes kept moving across the assembled relatives. The entire Williams family had gathered inside the estate. Daniel Milton Williams stood with his three children, while Marcel Holmes remained close to Jerry, Cara, and Kyla. Charles Monty was surrounded by his own children, and Victor's three children, Marcelus, Cecilia, and Lilian, kept to themselves. Lydia, Lyla, and Yasmine stood together, while Lorraine and Cara Williams watched over their children. Jenna stayed close to her two children. Around them, the distant cousins filled the remaining space, their con
