Sylvester smiled at his wife's reaction. He didn’t expect it, much so because it was her mother. Emily didn’t like her grandmother, but she adored her mother. For her to take his side in this bout, it meant she had made some progress in accepting him.

He didn’t know how to feel about it, but at least, now, he felt peace.

Now, they could work as a team to figure this whole thing out.

That was what he wanted all along…for them to navigate this whole arranged marriage, family connection bush together.

He turned to his wife with a smile, and she gave one back.

“How are your legs?” she asked softly.

“Very good, actually. I guess physical therapy did help after all,” he shrugged.

“And a strong mindset as well. Thank you for having that,” she responded, and in her eyes, Sly could see the pang of guilt that weighed heavily on her. He wished she didn’t feel bad for treating him the way she did in those final moments of his predicament.

Everyone had their breaking moment, and that was hers. Thr

Sylvester sat across from Genevieve at a small café near her school, stirring his coffee absently while watching her scroll through her phone. She seemed relaxed…too relaxed for someone who had just received another threat. He set his cup down. “You’re taking this pretty well.” Genevieve looked up, blinking. “Huh?” “The message you got.” Sylvester nodded toward her phone. “It doesn’t seem to be bothering you.” She shrugged. “I mean, I kind of expected it. These people aren’t just going to give up, are they?” Sylvester narrowed his eyes. She was trying to play it cool, but he wasn’t buying it. He’d seen the way her fingers trembled when she read the message, the quick way she locked her screen like she didn’t want him to see the fear flash across her face. “They’re getting bold,” he said. “And sleek. They sent this threat right under my nose, even with all my precautions.” Genevieve sighed and leaned back in her chair. “Well, what are we gonna do? Hide forever?” “No. We’re no

Nope.Emily hated it.Her husband set Katherine to watch over her, and every part of that arrangement pissed her off.Katherine…didn’t like her. It was obvious from the first time they met, but she seemed to make it even more obvious now.“Good morning, Miss Wright,” she hummed as she perched on the couch like she damn near owned the place. She always referred to her as ‘Miss’ deliberately feigning ignorance of her marital status. Emily thought it was stupid, since she still called her by Sylvester’s surname technically acknowledging her relationship. Emily didn’t bother to correct her.“Good morning, Katherine. Sleep well?”“Nope. Usually fighting and dealing with PTSD. You wouldn’t know…”“No, I wouldn’t,” Emily sighed. She wasn’t ready to exchange words, even though Katherine looked like she was in the mood.“I’ll be leaving for work. Make yourself at home, I guess.”“I’m coming with you,” Katherine stood up to follow her.“What?”“Master said to never let you out of my sight. I’m

Sylvester had met all kinds of people in his life.Warriors, scholars, criminals, and rulers. But few had ever stared him down the way Genevieve Stephenson did when she first laid eyes on him.She stood in the living room of her father’s house, arms crossed, chin slightly raised, her icy blue eyes scanning him like he was some creepy stranger. It made him not want to look at her…not because he didn’t like her…she made him not like himself for looking at her. She wasn’t afraid of him, not in the slightest. That much was obvious.Lincoln cleared his throat. “Genevieve, this is Sylvester Wright. He’s going to be protecting you for a while.”Genevieve’s lips thinned. “I know who he is.”Sylvester arched a brow. “Is that so?”She shrugged. “Dad talks about you sometimes. Mostly about how you two used to be a big deal back in the day.” She tilted her head. “Guess I thought you’d be taller.”Sylvester smirked. “Guess I thought you’d be friendlier.”Lincoln sighed. “Genevieve, I told you thi

Sylvester didn’t want to jump into conclusions just yet. He needed to gather all the information he could possibly need. That way, when he entered into the job, he wouldn’t be going in blind. “And here I thought this was a friendly reunion,” he sighed. “I’m sorry, Sylvester. It’s just that…she’s my all…I’d do anything for her.” Lincoln persuaded, even though Sylvester had agreed. He wanted to quell every doubt in his friend’s mind about protecting his daughter. “Aha. This should have been us getting a drink,” Sylvester psyched his friend up. Lincoln chuckled, but there was no humor in it. He ran a hand through his graying hair, exhaling slowly. “I wish it were. But my daughter’s life is on the line.” “Well, we’re going to need some intel, aren’t we?” “Yup. Give me a second. I’ll get my tablet and run you through the timeline.” “If you have a can of orange juice lying around, I’ll have that as well,” Sylvester shrugged. “I could use it.” Lincoln came back with the tablet and j

  • Chapter 81

The news of the desolation of the Paddingtons warded off a lot of enemies. Sylvester was sure that now, people who had intentions of getting even with him would reconsider their decisions. At the same time, however, the news attracted more than just enemies. A few days later, he was reading the text message of Lincoln Stephenson, a close friend of his gone AWOL…asking for an urgent meet up. Sylvester wasn’t sure how he felt about Lincoln Stephenson reaching out after all these years. They had been close once. Before everything fell apart….his life…his legs…everything. He made the decision to lay low, and Lincoln respected it…maybe a little too much, because they lost contact with each other over the last three years. He stared at the message on his phone for a long moment before finally typing back: “On my way.” The drive to Lincoln’s home felt longer than it should have. Maybe because the last time he had been here, he had been a different man. A man at his peak, confident in

The moment Sylvester stormed into Emily’s office building, the air shifted. Tension rippled through the employees as they saw the grim determination on his face. He didn’t stop to explain. He didn’t need to.He had one mission…and one only.Find the bomb before it was too late.He swept through the halls, his sharp eyes scanning every inch of the office space. People tried to stop him, asking what was wrong, but he had no time for questions.“Out,” he barked at the first group of employees he encountered. “Now.”The workers flinched at the force of his voice, but his presence left no room for argument.“Take the stairs, avoid the elevator,” he continued, his voice cutting through the growing murmurs. “Move fast, stay calm.”Some panicked, freezing in place.Sylvester clenched his jaw. He needed to fight, not just the bomb, but the panic that he was sure would ensue.Panic in itself was necessary. There was a bomb here for Pete’s sakeA young woman tripped as she tried to stand, her

The room was dimly lit, the single bulb above casting flickering shadows across the cold concrete walls. The air was thick with tension, the kind that made men sweat before a single question was even asked.Sylvester sat in his chair, watching. His body was weak, the strain of his recent battles weighing down on him, but he didn’t need strength to control this room. His presence alone was enough. In front of him, tied to a chair, was the spy, his face bruised, his clothes disheveled. Across from the captive, Sylvester’s three students stood in a loose semicircle, their expressions hard.Katherine tapped a blade against her palm. Geral cracked his knuckles. Verity leaned against the wall, arms crossed, watching with relative disinterest. The spy, to his credit, held out longer than most would. But Sylvester had time. And his students had patience.“Let’s go over this again,” Geral said, stepping forward. “Who sent you?”The man spat blood onto the floor. “I told you already. Sylvester drummed his fingers against the steering wheel, his sharp gaze scanning the street. He got the car.For a trillionaire, the biggest hassle was getting it into the city without triggering his offshore accounts, and making sure he didn’t get anything extravagant.100k was nothing to him…but a lot for a car.He had to be careful. The café sat on the corner, its warm, welcoming light creating a stark contrast to the tightened knot in his guts. He had to be careful. The Paddingtons were a force in the business world, but after Emily’s rise, their dominance had started to fade. Their desperation was clear. And desperation made men reckless.Sylvester had never personally crossed paths with Brad Paddington – the head of the Paddington family – but he knew the man by reputation. He was well-connected and deeply embedded in the black market. In simple terms, he was dangerous. Was there any family that wasn’t these days?Sylvester couldn't take this threat lightly.Emily was still

  • Chapter 77

Sylvester lay on the couch, his body heavy with exhaustion but his mind too sharp to rest. The trip had been refreshing, yet as soon as they returned home, the weight of his responsibilities came crashing back. He had too much on his plate—his health, the impending war, and now, his wife's growing business empire. His phone buzzed. He sighed, grabbing it lazily, but his expression changed when he saw the caller ID. Gladys.Straightening up, he answered. “Gladys, to what do I owe this honor?”A soft chuckle came from the other end. “Oh, don’t flatter me, Sylvester. I wanted to check on you first. How’s your health? Emily told me you needed rest.”Gladys wasn’t just a high profile connection to someone like Sylvester. While Sylvester was a businessman himself, at some point, especially when he delved into the world of cultivation, he began to have less and less time for his business. That was when he met Gladys. When he entrusted the full assets of his company to her, he concluded that
