Chapter 1
The lighting in the expansive study seemed to grow dimmer as Sylvester Wright wheeled himself in. As his sharp eyes took in the environment, he caught sight of his wife, Emily, hunched on a couch, her eyes empty and distant. She stared into space, a small crease on her forehead.
For the past few days, she seemed to zone out more, becoming a shadow of herself. The smoke from the teacup in her hands grew faint.
He let out a sigh, wheeling himself in her direction. She wasn’t aware of his presence; or so he thought.
“Disappearing again?” Her sharp words cut into the silence faster than he could take his next breath. She turned to him, a feigned smile on her face. “For what? Six days? A week? Forever this time?”
Clearing his throat for a moment, Sylvester thought of what to tell her. He could tell that she was getting to her breaking point. Could he blame her though? She had been patient enough.
“I’ll be back soon, Emily,” he assured, his voice calm. “And I’ll explain everything to you.”
Emily shook her head at him, tears threatening to blur her vision, “Explain what? All you have ever been to me is a burden.” She yelled, throwing the teacup in his direction.
She burned with fury as it all came rushing back to her. She was at the edge of her breakthrough when matriarch Anne had come with the suggestion of her getting married. In her words, Emily was such a successful young woman but she would have more respect, and even stand the chance of inheriting the family’s legacy if she was a married woman.
If only she had discerned that her grandmother’s suggestion was not out of concern but out of her cruel heart.
Emily recalled the shock that had sunk her stomach in when she saw the man she was to get married to. A crippled no-body. She was appalled, from what she was told, the man, Sylvester was rescued from the roadside, injured and comatose.
“So, this was the best our successful business woman could do as regards picking her husband,” the matriarch, her grandmother, had announced at the family meeting in front of everyone.
“But grandmother…” Emily had tried refuting.
She was interrupted by a slender, wrinkled finger raised in opposition to her. “Quiet!” Grandmother ordered. “You have brought shame to this family by getting married to this man. I’ve always known you were incapable of handling this family’s legacy but this is just the height! Now I have no choice but to make your brother the heir. You will give him all your shares at once, young woman!”
And just like that, her career had taken a dive south. All her partners, everything she worked for had disappeared like they never existed and her brother had become an overnight success. All because she had gotten married to a cripple.
Emily had never held Sylvester responsible for anything anyway. She had always tolerated him and managed to live in peace with him, until she took notice of his frequent disappearance every month for several days, during which he was always completely unreachable and untraceable. She could use his riddance however if she didn’t notice that along with him went tens of thousands of dollars unexplainably.
Three years had gone by with this monthly incurrence and Emily was not having it anymore. She might have been foolish to have married him without her knowledge, but she would not keep quiet and watch him ruin her finances. She wanted out!
A groan escaped Sylvester’s lips as the teacup crashed against his legs and broke. He stared at Emily in disbelief, yet with a sense of compassion within him for her. She had the right to be angry
If only she knew who she was speaking with. If only she knew she was married to a warlord for the past three years. If only she understood the might of a single word from his lips but he was forced to hide it all away from her just to save her.
Three years ago, he had fought what was the fiercest war in all his years as a warlord. He had led his troops in a battle to defend the country against their relentless enemies. They were able to dissemble the enemies at the borders just before they successfully crossed in. They were victorious against them, but it was short-lived.
Just as they rounded up the border and waited to depart, a second band of the enemies, who had successfully gotten in and waited in ambush had sprung up on them, taking them by surprise. They were stronger and more bloodthirsty than the first band. There was bloodshed like never before as the opposing army was targeted at killing him in particular.
Eventually, he was able to successfully detangle himself from the soldiers who had outnumbered him. With all he had, he lunged at them, successfully taking them out but one of them had managed to deal him a fatal strike on his legs before passing out.
Exhausted by the strain and pain, he had passed out just after managing to pull himself to a roadside.
As the cup crashed against his legs, this painful memory resurfaced, and he bit back a groan.
A glint of remorse flashed across Emily’s face for a split second. “You have to tell me exactly where you’re going, Sylvester!” She pressed, shoving the guilt she felt to the back of her mind. “I want to know where you go and what the hell you do with the money you keep taking.”
Sylvester remained silent, his breathing slowly growing labored, “Emily, you have to calm down. I can’t say anything or you’d be in danger.
Irritated, she burst out, “Answer me this instant otherwise, we are getting divorced!”

RISE OF THE ALMIGHTY WARLORD GRANDMASTER Chapter 169
“Have you heard from the men we sent out to Jasper's place?” Drake asked Viktor who shook his head. “That's weird. Those men are highly trained. Jasper shouldn't be a problem.” he said thoughtfully rubbing the tip of his dreads between his finger tips. “Sylvester too hasnt shown up for the duel. We can't give the order to the recon team to proceed as planned.” Viktor pointed out. “Hey you… contact the team. Tell them to hold. That anyone who moves without orders will lose his head.” Drake ordered and the person spoken to raced off. Few minutes he returned breathless. “Sir… I can't connect to them.” he said, gaspijg for breath. “What do you mean?” Viktor demanded. “It's either turned off or has bad connectivity.” the man explained. Drake's brow furrowed. “That's new… anyway keep trying.”The man hurried off. “Something doesn't feel right.” Viktor muttered to himself. He looked at the time. It was morning already. Maybe Sylvester got cold feet. ****“We hit at once. Each duo w

RISE OF THE ALMIGHTY WARLORD GRANDMASTER Chapter 168
“We are moving on with the plan.” he announced to everyone gathered, his eyes landing on each in turn. The room was crowded as Katrina, Gerald who was back, Otto who had come down from the surface with Horzert and Emily stood looking down at the blueprints spread out before them. Each had a grim look on their face as he laid out the plan. “One question.” Otto said, raising up his hand for attention. Sylvester gestured to him to go on. “Let's hear what you have to say.”“What do we about the men lurking outside?” Otto asked, pointing out the window. Sylvester became instantly alert. He closed his eyes and began cultivating, his essence searching and picking out the intruders. Six of them in total, all having the aura of the blockers clan. Damn. He was getting old for him to have missed their poorly disguised aura in the first place. His former self would have picked them out immediately they stepped within the area. Damn. “Everyone wait here. I will be back.” He created an aft

RISE OF THE ALMIGHTY WARLORD GRANDMASTER Chapter 167
Back in the Underground… “Did you come back with everyone you left with?” Emily asked as soon as Sylvester stepped in through the door. “I know you left with your team who was on standby here in the Underground. Where are they? Where's Gerald?”Sylvester explained. “They are investigating something else. I got done with my investigation before them but we will meeting up later. I left Gerald in charge.” “What about Verity?” Katrina asked anxiously before realizing herself. She gradually recollected herself. Sylvester smiled thinly. “I don't blame you. She was like a sister to you. She is safe and sound. It's thanks to her we will be taking certain actions few minutes from now.”She breathed out in relief and left husband and wife together. “So what's the plan?” she asked as soon as they were alone. “We attack tonight here in the Underground.” Emily's eyes took on a stubborn look. “This time__” Sylvester interrupted her. “This time you are coming along.”The words died in Emi

RISE OF THE ALMIGHTY WARLORD GRANDMASTER Chapter 166
Next Morning…. “You not going with us. I'm leaving you with Katrina.” Sylvester informed a shocked Emily. Emily couldn't believe what she was hearing. Not this again. “Like hell you are.” she snapped at him, plopping her weapons down on the table between them. “I need you to be safe.” Sylvester tried to make her see reason but she was having none of it. “Like hell you do.” she retorted with the same energy. Sylvester grimaced. “Stop.”“What am I suppose to stop exactly?” she asked, still fuming. “The attitude. It doesn't fit you.”“You should also stop what you trying to do.” she replied. “What am I trying to do exactly?” Sylvester asked her, not quite certain he was on the same page with her. “Leaving me in the dark and treating me with kid gloves. So what if I died a few times? I can take care of myself.”Sylvester threw his hands in the air in exasperation. “See that's just the thing. You are beginning to rely too much on your powers. That's risky and dangerous you know.”

RISE OF THE ALMIGHTY WARLORD GRANDMASTER Chapter 165
Sylvester didn't know what he was feeling. Hurt, anger, disappointment, betrayal, hatred. They were jumbled together inside of him as he listened to her tell the clans his plans and how to ambush his own clan. “They are getting ready to crack down on the underground as we speak so you all need to act fast. Just don't forget our deal.” Verity was saying and Sylvester felt like someone had twisted a knife in his heart. To think the mole was none other than Verity. But why? Every part of him was itching to crawl out from beneath the floor boards and shake her violently or even wring her slender neck as he asked her what he had done to deserve this betrayal. “I remember your request all too well, young lady.” the same old cracked voice as before said. “What request did she make? We are all in this together so I believe we all have a right to know what she requested, right guys?” another voice challenged and there was a general murmur of agreement. “Silence.” yet another voice

RISE OF THE ALMIGHTY WARLORD GRANDMASTER Chapter 164
“Em___” She held up a hand to him, palm outward and he stopped talking. “We are suppose to be a team. Why do you keep trying to do everything on your own?” “Babe___”Once again she stopped him he could say what he wanted to say. “I'm not a party to this. You will have to cancel the whole thing and come up with a scenerio where you don't place yourself at death door.”Sylvester shook his head sadly at her. “It's too late for that now. Everything is already in motion as we speak. I believe the underground clans must have gotten my request by now.”Emily had tears in her eyes. “So it's not okay for me to be in danger but you willingly throw yourself in harms way without a care.”“This is the only way, Little one.”“How much so? Please do enlighten me.”Sylvester looked around the room then settled his gaze on her once more. “There's a hit on both of us. A big one and they also want to destroy our clan, everything I've worked for… we have worked for. This way, I get to hit them first
