Sylvester clenched his fist, his wife’s family was more devious than he expected. Emily didn’t deserve all this.
“I will not let any of you ridicule my wife. The company belongs to her alone.” Sebastian stepped forward, his voice booming with authority.
Cullen regained his composure and sneered, “Who do you think you are to meddle in our family’s business, cripple?” His words made the rest of the family calm down. He was right, Sebastian was only a cripple.
Emily felt a heat in her heart, “My husband is not a cripple. As you can well see, he walks.” She said, walking to stand by Sebastian’s side. She didn’t know what she was doing but she couldn’t bring herself to ignore Cullen especially when he was speaking against Sebastian.
“Just because his limbs are functioning doesn’t mean his brain is. He doesn’t have a right to involve himself. Hand over the company, Emily.” The matriarch was not amused about the whole situation.
She had wanted to keep quiet but these people were getting bolder by the minute.
Sylvester was furious, these people were getting on his nerves. If he was on the wheelchair, he wouldn’t have a say but now he could talk.
Emily was about to say something, when Sylvester interrupted her. “Lumire Rachel Collins, Emily would do no such thing. If you think Cullen is a worthy head for the company, then you shouldn’t mind what I am about to say.” He said, standing in front of Emily.
The whole family gasped at his audacity, calling the Matriarch’s full name. This man simply had no respect.
Cullen walked forward, “You have no right to speak to grandmother like that! Tell me, what are you going to say? I am a far more worthy head than Emily would ever be.” Cullen smirked, angry at Sylvester’s defiance.
He wanted to get the company and get ready for his party. He would have so much wealth in hands once the company was his. Now, this bastard had interrupted him.
Sylvester stood steady, looking down at Cullen. “I dare you. If you are able to get the company’s collaboration to another bigger company, then you can take the company. If not, you’d have to leave it with Emily, my wife.” He softly smiled, towering over the other man.
Cold sweat appeared on Cullen’s face, he had not expected Sylvester to be so tall as he had always seen him on a wheelchair.
“What kind of dare is that? I don’t think I have to fight for something that’s already mine.” Cullen gritted his teeth.
Unfortunately for him, Sylvester had another play. Turning to the family matriarch, a smile crept on his face. “Your precious grandson doesn’t even give you face.” He chuckled and Cullen’s face turned blue.
Sylvester walked past Cullen, and focused his full attention on the old woman. “You want to give your company to someone without a backbone. He can’t even hope to compete with a woman.” Every mocking word escaped Sylvester’s lips without pause, and every one felt their face going red.
This would be bad for everyone including Cullen, if he couldn’t take up the cross, he’d not be giving the matriarch face.
Rachel Collins felt her blood rise and she was about to say something but Cullen had already made the decision.
“Okay then. I take the dare. I’d get the collaboration. However this is my side, if Emily fails, she will be disowned, and you will work as my personal slave.” A nasty look appeared on Cullen’s face. “I have to enjoy the dare and the motivation helps too.” He chuckled at the end of the sentence.
“That’s going too far, Cullen.” Emily gasped. She couldn’t imagine being disowned. It meant she would have to start from the beginning.
The Matriarch saw her chance and smiled. “Don’t be a fool, Emily. Your husband knew what he was doing when he suggested such a thing. If anyone has gone far, it’s the crippled son inlaw of mine, dear.” Her face showed that she approved of Cullen’s decision.
A laughter rang out, and everyone turned to the source of the laughter.
Sylvester wiped the single tear from his eyes and he turned to Cullen. “Sure.” With a single word from his mouth, the deal was sealed.
Emily wanted to say something and she raised her gaze. Sylvester was smiling at her, a warm smile and somehow, it made her heart flutter.
Something in her wanted to trust him but it seemed like it was too risky. They had nothing and without that company, they would be nothing.
“It’s settled then.” The matriarch’s voice sounded across the hall. “My birthday is next week. When Cullen gets that collaboration, it’d be a public honor to announce that to all my guests.” Her words showed she never cared about Emily but when she turned around, she realized they had already left.
“Such insolence.” The matriarch bit her lips, refusing to let their disrespect sting at her. Watching Cullen pour her a cup of wine, she couldn’t help but wonder where that cripple got his audacity.
Outside a house, a woman paced about, the light of the moon reflected on her long, black hair. Sylvester watched her from afar, in his heart, she was the most beautiful.
“Emily, why are you still outside? You need your rest.” He came out from the shadows, walking closer to her.
“How can I sleep, Sylvester? Your daring actions would give me a horrible blood pressure. Why didn’t you talk to me before making such a choice?” Emily face-palmed, remembering the events of the evening. She had been too shocked by her husband’s appearance to even make a move.
Sylvester moved closer and took her chin. “I trust you, Emily. Head over to the Diamond Break tomorrow morning, it should be your current target.” He smiled at her and Emily was dazed.
Her handsome husband looked breathtaking. “Ok. What would you be doing when I am gone? Do you want to leave for that secret place again?” At the remembrance of his previous actions, Emily pulled her face from his grip.
Sylvester simply smiled at her, and stepped forward. “I’m glad to have a wife that worries so much about me.” He chuckled lightly and placed a kiss on her forehead.
Emily couldn’t stop the redness that crept on her face and she simply remained standing, waiting for the night breeze to cool off her generated heat.
Sylvester walked to the room where he was given. In the first years of their marriage, he was forced to sleep in a different room with Emily because of her mom and his previous problem. This was why there had been no intimacy between them in all these while.
“Yes, talk to me.” A cold glint passed Sylvester’s eyes as he talked on the phone. “Who is this?” He maintained a cool tone. He was still in the warrior's stage of cultivation and he wouldn’t want to anger anyone right now.
“Boss, is this you? Am I speaking to the Legendary Almighty Grandmaster, Sylvester Wright?” The voice spoke in a whispered rush.
Sylvester chose not to talk at first and tried to recall where he had heard the voice before.
“It’s me, Master. Student Hozert.” The voice answered, assuming he was speaking with the right person.
The room where the owner of the voice stayed suddenly turned cold, and the man realized his mistake. “Please calm down boss. I found your number from Old Man Rithan.”
“Hozert, how are you? I am sorry for not contacting you. I…” Sylvester slowly said but he was interrupted.
Hozert smiled, “It’s fine, Master. I am happy to hear from you now. I can finally be at peace knowing you are alive and well.”
Sylvester chuckled, Hozert had always been like this, respectful and caring. He would never hurt a fly unless the fly attacked any one of his close ones.
They both spent time talking until Sylvester realized something.
“Hozert, please hold on. Did you say you are the owner of Diamond Break Company?”
A wide grin appeared on Sylvester’s face.
Hozert chuckled over the phone. “Everything I have now is due to you, Master. If you hadn't taught me and trained me, I would never amount to so much now.” As Hozert reminisced about the previous history, he felt a fire burn in his heart.
His master was now a legend so he must do everything to ensure his master is pleased, even if it costs him his life.
This was what he was meant to do.
“Hey Hozert. Do you think you can give my wife a collaboration with your company please? She’s coming tomorrow morning.” Sylvester awkwardly chuckled.
Hozert punched the air, this was his chance to prove that he was the best student.
“Yes Master. I would do anything for you, you only need to ask.” He smiled through the phone.
Sylvester thanked his stars and Old Man Rithan for such luck. He was initially thinking of using his multi-billionaire company but it technically also belonged to Emily.
Sylvester instantly sent a picture of Emily, “This is her and I am leaving her in your care, but I don’t want her to know I am behind it.”
“I will do my best, Master.” Hozert answered and with that the call ended.
The air around the room twisted as Sylvester began cultivating. He had to make himself stronger before the coming of another war. He had been in hiding for three years so he was sure the other countries thought it was a chance to make a move.
A ray of light shot into the sky from his chest. Sylvester couldn’t let such a war happen. “I have to protect Emily and be the man she loves. As long as my enemies are beneath my feet, I will succeed.”

The sun had barely crested the horizon when Sylvester's phone buzzed. He reached for it without much interest, expecting another message from the scouting teams or possibly Otto reporting back with some excuse about their food run. Instead, the screen lit up with an encrypted government code. For a few seconds, Sylvester just stared, his thumb hovering over the answer button. He hadn’t seen that code in years. With a sigh, he answered. "This is Sylvester."A firm, clear voice responded. "Commander Sylvester Wright. This is Officer Langston of the Central Defense Ministry. We’re extending a formal invitation. The government would like to meet with you tomorrow morning."Sylvester sat up straighter, every cell in his body shifting defensively. It was expected. This was the same call he received, and then three months later, he lost his legs.“I don’t believe I’m a commander now, Sir,” he answered respectfully, but with a hint of malice in his tone.“Doesn’t matter, Sylvester. The gove
Chapter 138
The next morning dawned soft and quiet, the kind of peace that followed a long, exhausting war. And even though there was even greater conflict to come, Sylvester could, at least for now, breathe a little easier. The compound was still, except for the occasional murmur of soldiers returning to routine – cleaning weapons, checking patrol points, and tending to injuries. "You all did well. Last night could’ve gone horribly wrong, but we came out strong. Together. That’s what matters," he said as he tapped the shoulders of one of the men who was trudging along, doing his task with a little more difficulty, perhaps due to his exhaustion.Around the room heads nodded, shoulders relaxed. Verity leaned against the wall near Geral, arms folded. Otto perched on the edge of a table, quietly smirking at something only he understood. Katherine stood alone to the side, not willing to test the others’ acceptance of her.She was sure of rejection, at least initially, and she didn’t try to fight i
Chapter 137
Emily had always believed that if she were to die young, it would be at the hands of fate—maybe a sickness she never saw coming or a tragic accident. Not like this, not in a place where the dirt smelled of rust and betrayal…in the hands of her enemies. She didn’t even believe she was the type to have enemies that genuinely wanted to kill her. She was kneeling now, hands bound behind her back, the rope biting into her skin. Her face was numb, now, from the backhand. The pain wasn’t what bothered her. It was the finality of it. This was perhaps the last pain she would feel…unless they decided to make her execution painful. Either ways, she was in her last phases of life, with not enough time to ponder. The camera lights blinked to life, casting an eerie glow around the rundown barn. She could see the red recording dot staring at her like an eye, eager to document her death. The leader of the clan came forward with a large blade and waved it around, testing it’s weight. Emily
Chapter 136
Emily’s head throbbed as she drifted back into consciousness Her limbs were dead weight, and her eyes refused to focus, unless she tried really hard. The air around her reeked of damp wood and old leather, with a tinge of sweat and something metallic. Blood? Was she bleeding? She groaned softly, trying to move her hands, only to find them tightly bound behind her. A cold, biting rope scraped against her skin. Her mouth was dry and her head was a cloud of confusion. But her heart was intact, and so was the rage behind it. Katherine. The name kept thrumming in her mind, threatening to split her head open with all the wrath she felt. Emily felt sick from the betrayal. She had looked into Katherine's eyes and believed her. She had swallowed that sob story, allowed a sliver of sympathy to wedge itself in her chest. And now, here she was, kidnapped, alone, and who knew how far from Sylvester. Stupid. She was so stupid. She blinked through the haze and glanced around. She wa
Chapter 135
The room was quiet, too quiet for what was meant to be a peace-making conversation. The kind of silence that wasn’t just awkward, but strained. It was a thick fog-like cloud, pressing in from all sides. Emily sat stiffly on the edge of the chair, her fingers curled around the fabric of her dress, knuckles pale. Across from her sat Katherine, her posture relaxed, almost too relaxed for someone seeking forgiveness. Sylvester stood by the door, not too close, giving them space, but not far enough to miss a word. His eyes flicked from one woman to the other, brows knitted with concern. The tension between them pulsed like a storm waiting to crack open the walls of the room that was starting to make Emily feel a little claustrophobic. "I’m not here for a fight," Katherine began, voice low and somber. "I’m here because I know I owe you more than an apology. I owe you the truth." Emily's gaze was sharp, cautious. Her arms stayed folded, her jaw tense. "Then start talking. And don’t
Chapter 134
The interrogation stretched deep into the early hours of the morning. The man started strong at first – Silence. Silence is golden, but it only works when you have some clasp of power, or when you’re dealing with irrational people. Sylvester was patient. He wasn’t going to kill him. In fact, save for a few beatings, Sylvester didn’t do so much physical damage. After all, he needed the man in good enough condition to talk. And so, he treated him. Nice and good. After silence, came the screaming. Sylvester was methodical in his craft, and made sure every pore felt pain. The poor guy begged for death, but it didn’t come. The only keys that were to be handed to him, was release, in however form he liked. As long as he talked. “They’ll kill me!” he screeched as Sylvester let up from an electrocution episode. “You don’t understand. If I talk, I’m dead.” “If you don’t talk, we’ll still find the information we want, and when you leave here, you’ll be dead either ways. Why play the
