The second semi-final match was about to begin.

Yuchen stood in the shadows of the waiting tunnel, leaning against the cold stone wall. He wiped the last traces of dirt from his Spell-Weaver’s Carapace. His match was over. He had secured his place in the finals. Now, he just needed to see who the system was going to feed him to.

"You should be resting," Taion said, materializing on a rusted weapons rack. The chibi administrator projected a glowing blue screen showing the arena. "You are about t

The fifty-foot-tall pillar of divine light crashed downward, carrying enough raw, destructive power to vaporize a small mountain. The heat alone was already scorching the dirt at Yuchen’s feet. The crowd screamed, some covering their eyes to avoid being blinded by the ultimate holy spell."Die with honor, Merchant!" Tyron’s voice roared from the center of the storm.Yuchen didn't flinch. He didn't draw a weapon. He held the glowing blue scroll high into the air, perfectly in the path of the descending attack."Guild Tournament Rulebook!" Yuchen yelled, magically amplifying his voice so it echoed across the entire stadium. "Section Four! Paragraph Twelve! Any combatant who causes structural damage to the underground foundations of the Grand Arena will be instantly disqualified and fined fifty thousand gold coins for property destruction!"The massive pillar of light suddenly froze. It was less than five inches away from Yuchen’s nose.Up in the air, Tyron’s eyes widened in absolute hor

The Grand Arena was so loud the ground physically vibrated. The crowd wasn't just cheering; they were screaming. They had been waiting for this moment. They wanted to see the cowardly Merchant finally get crushed by the Destined Hero."Ladies and gentlemen!" the announcer roared. "The Grand Finals! In the red corner, the man chosen by the heavens... Tyron Stone! And in the blue corner... the potion seller, Yuchen!"Tyron stepped out of the tunnel. His white armor gleamed in the afternoon sun. He carried his mythic-tier broadsword, Heavensplitter. The crowd threw roses onto the dirt.Yuchen walked out of the opposite tunnel. He wore his dark Spell-Weaver’s Carapace, mostly hidden under a simple brown cloak. He didn't carry a shiny weapon. He carried his leather ledger in one hand and a pencil in the other."Boo!""Kill the coward, Tyron!""Show him what a real warrior looks like!"Yuchen ignored the crowd. He flipped a page in his ledger, wrote down a quick number, and put the book i

The chibi administrator projected a glowing blue screen showing the arena. "You are about to fight the server's golden boy. Tyron Stone.""I need to watch this," Yuchen replied, his golden eyes narrowing. "I need to see his stats. Until now, he has won every fight by pure luck. Tripping, sneezing, accidental traps. But his opponent today isn't a joke.""True," Taion nodded. "Darius the Iron Fiend. Level 29 Berserker. The man is a walking tank. He has fought in the front lines against the Demon King’s vanguard. He won't be defeated by a loose cobblestone."The roaring crowd outside sud

The next three days of the tournament were a complete nightmare for the traditional adventurers of the capital.Yuchen did not fight honorably. He did not fight fairly. He fought like a man who viewed combat as a math problem. In the third round, he faced a Level 23 Pyromancer. Instead of dodging the fireballs, Yuchen spent ten silver coins before the match to secretly buy the Pyromancer’s favorite pre-fight meal from a local tavern and laced it with a mild, non-lethal stomach laxative. The Pyromancer forfeited the match in three minutes, clutching his stomach and running for the bathroom. In the fourth round, he fought a dual-wielding Ranger. Yuchen walked into the arena holding a massive, highly polished silver mirror he bought for five copper coins. He just angled it to catch the afternoon sun, blinding the Ranger long enough to trip her into the dirt.Every victory caused more outrage. The crowd hated him. The traditional fighters wanted him banned. But Yuchen didn't break a singl

The second round of the tournament began the next afternoon. The sun beat down on the Grand Arena, but the heat of the crowd was much worse. They were angry. They were loud. And they all wanted to see the rich shopkeeper bleed.Yuchen stood in the dark tunnel, listening to the crowd chant his opponent's name."Varo! Varo! Varo!"Taion floated next to Yuchen, looking at the bright arena entrance. "They really hate you," the chibi administrator said. "They think you ruined the honor of the tournament yesterday.""Honor doesn't pay the rent, Taion," Yuchen said, checking the straps on his belt. He adjusted the glass vials hidden under his simple brown cloak. "Honor is a luxury for people who don't have to worry about surviving.""Well, your opponent today is a Level 24 Spearman," Taion warned. "His name is Varo. He is fast. Very fast. You won't be able to hit him with a heavy potion like you did with the big brawler. If you throw a bottle at him, he will just dodge it or smash it with hi

The waiting room beneath the Grand Arena smelled like cheap sweat, iron, and nervous energy. Dozens of fighters were packed into the damp stone hallway, sharpening weapons and stretching their muscles. Yuchen sat on a wooden bench in the corner, calmly wiping down his boots. He wore his dark Spell-Weaver’s armor, but he had thrown a simple brown merchant’s cloak over it to hide the expensive magical runes. "Hey. Shopkeeper." A massive shadow fell over Yuchen. He looked up. Standing in front of him were three heavily scarred adventurers. The one in the middle, a bald man holding a giant spiked mace, was glaring at him. "Did you take a wrong turn looking for the market?" the bald man sneered. "I'm right where I need to be," Yuchen said, going back to cleaning his boots. The other two fighters laughed loudly. "Look at him," one of them pointed. "He's that lucky businessman everyone is talking about. The guy who bought a mansion in the inner ring selling overpriced health potions."
