The purple light bleeding from the interface didn't just illuminate the underground corridor; it seemed to eat the existing shadows, turning the damp concrete into a sickly, violet-hued womb.

Min-Ah stood frozen, the heavy steel canister of the M84 flashbang resting in her open palm. Her dark eyes, which had been so calm and calculated just a second ago, widened into an expression of sheer, unadulterated shock. She looked at the grenade, then up at me, her fingers twitching as she realized the mechanical trap I had just laid.

"You... you crazy bastard," she whispered, her voice dropping all its Gangnam polish, replaced by a raw, jagged edge of panic. "You didn't look at the warning, did you? You can't loop a rebate through an active user node!"

"I looked," I said.

I didn't take a step back. I kept the tactical shotgun leveled directly at her chest, my finger taking up the slack on the trigger guard. The high-frequency combat knife at my waist was humming so intensely it was causing the small puddles of water around my boots to vibrate into perfect, geometric concentric rings.

Behind me, Sarah let out a sharp, ragged gasp. "Ethan! The light... the screen is changing colors! It hurts to look at!"

She was right. The blue text was completely gone, replaced by a chaotic storm of weeping violet and deep crimson characters that were spinning across my retinas so fast they left trails of static behind them.

The air in the corridor grew thick, heavy, and smelled violently of ozone and burnt hair. The battery-powered lantern sitting on the plastic crate between us began to flicker violently before its plastic casing cracked down the center with a sharp *pop*, plunging the room into near-total darkness, saved only by the pulsing violet light of the malfunctioning system.

"Drop the shotgun, Ethan," Min-Ah hissed.

Her posture had completely changed. The casual, business-like stance was gone, replaced by a lethal, low-slung combat crouch. Her right hand had already vanished behind her leather chest rig, her knuckles white against the grip of a weapon I hadn't seen before—a compact, silenced submachine gun that looked like an H&K MP7, its matte-black finish absorbing the purple glow.

"You think you're the only one who can override a script?" she snarled, her teeth bared. "My system is a logistical matrix. The moment you handed me that ordnance, my index cataloged it as a hostile import. If that paradox fires, it’s going to trigger a localized wipe!"

"Then let it fire," I said, a terrifying, icy calm settling into the deepest part of my chest.

I wasn't bluffing. The cold, strategic evolution the system had forced on me was complete. I wasn't the terrified kid who got evicted from his Gwanak-gu apartment anymore. I was a gambler who knew that the house only won if you played by their rules. Min-Ah was terrified. That meant her system was bound by safety protocols. Mine wasn't. Mine was a predatory loop that fed on raw chaos and negative affinity.

"Sarah," I called out, keeping my eyes fixed entirely on Min-Ah’s shoulders. "Hold onto the crate. If the ground moves, don't let go."

"Ethan, please," Sarah wept from the darkness, her voice layered with that horrific, static-laced echo. "The static... it’s not a hum anymore. It’s a scream. Whatever you just did, the things outside can hear it. They’re coming back. All of them."

A sudden, deep tremor shook the concrete floor beneath our feet. It wasn't the rhythmic thudding of a single monster. It was a massive, subterranean vibration that made the dust drift down from the cracked ventilation shafts like gray snow.

Min-Ah’s eyes flickered toward the ceiling, then snapped back to me. "The Yongsan user. The *Executioner's Ledger*. The paradox pinged his grid, Ethan. He’s not crossing the river anymore—he’s already in Mapo. He’s in the tunnels below us."

"Good," I said. "Let him come."

**[Ding! Unstable Paradox Payload calculated.]**

**[Rebate Modifier: Multiplicity Malfunction.]**

**[Host has received: Unstable Core Shard x1, Spatial Tear Munition x1.]**

A sharp, agonizing heat erupted in my left palm. I gritted my teeth, refusing to let out a sound as a small, jagged piece of dark, translucent crystal tore through the flesh of my hand, sealing itself directly into my palm. It pulsed with a rhythmic, black light, its frequency perfectly matching the vibration of my high-frequency knife. Inside my pocket, the final Dragon’s Breath shell in my shotgun's tube suddenly shifted, the brass casing turning a volatile, oily iridescent slick.

But the rebate didn't stop with me.

Min-Ah’s hand flinched as the M84 flashbang I had given her began to glow with the same corrupt violet light. Her system interface appeared before her, flashing a bright, panic-stricken amber.

"No, no, no," she muttered, stumbling backward toward the ventilation shaft she had dropped from. "The index is forcing a quarantine d******d. You've corrupted my inventory database!"

"That’s the point of a bad transaction, isn't it?" I stepped forward, my boots splashing through the violet-tinted puddles. "You wanted an alliance because you were scared of the guy in Yongsan. But you should have been more scared of the guy who has nothing left to lose."

Before she could pull the trigger of her submachine gun, the heavy iron emergency door behind me didn't just buck—it disintegrated.

A massive, horizontal slice of silver light cut through the reinforced steel plate like a hot wire through wax. The door split into two perfect, clean halves, crashing heavily onto the concrete floor with a deafening roar.

The dust kicked up from the impact was immense, but as it cleared, a tall, slender silhouette stood in the frame.

The man wore a pristine, dark charcoal-colored corporate suit, completely dry despite the raging storm outside. His hair was slicked back, his expression entirely neutral, looking like a high-level executive from a Yeouido investment firm. But in his right hand, he held a long, traditional Korean straight sword—a *Jikdo*—the blade glowing with a faint, crystalline white edge that seemed to hum with an unnatural, absolute sharpness.

He didn't have a system screen floating in front of his eyes. Instead, a massive, vertical counting ledger—like an ancient, iron-framed abacus—hovered directly behind his head, its heavy beads clicking together with a dry, rhythmic sound that echoed through the concrete hallway.

The number displayed at the top of the ledger in stark, bleeding white characters was: **4,112**.

Min-Ah’s breath hitched, her weapon shaking as she pointed it toward the doorway. "Kang-Dae..."

The man in the suit didn't look at her. His cold, dark eyes scanned the room, passing over the corrupted violet interface floating between me and Min-Ah, before finally locking onto Sarah, who was shivering behind the flour sacks, her neon-blue light beginning to bleed from her eyes once again.

Kang-Dae tilted his head, the heavy iron beads of the ledger behind him shifting down with a heavy *clack*.

"An S-Rank Carrier at twenty-four percent sync," Kang-Dae said, his voice smooth, professional, and entirely terrifying. "And two active user cores in a single room. My ledger is going to balance beautifully tonight."

He took a single step into the corridor, and the air pressure in the room spiked so violently that my ears instantly popped. The corrupted system text in front of my vision flared into a frantic, repeating alert.

**[Warning: S-Rank System User 'The Executioner' has entered the zone.]**

**[Current Combat Survival Rate: 0.04%]**

Kang-Dae raised his sword, the white light of the blade reflecting in the violet pools of the floor. "Who wants to be deducted first?"

The clicking of the iron abacus behind Kang-Dae’s head was the only sound that defied the heavy, pressurized silence of the corridor."Min-Ah Cho," Kang-Dae said, his eyes flicking to the bleached-blonde girl crouching by the vent. He didn't raise his voice, but the acoustic weight of it made the dust on the ceiling shake. "Your logistics ring has been leaking data for three days. Did you really think hiding in a wet market would change your inventory's value?"Min-Ah didn't answer with words. Her response was a localized panic. She raised the silenced MP7 and squeezed the trigger.A rhythmic, deadly stream of 4.6mm rounds chewed through the dark, cutting a straight line toward Kang-Dae’s chest. But before the first casing could even hit the floor, Kang-Dae moved his right hand. It wasn't superhuman speed; it was a spatial deletion. The *Jikdo* cut a vertical crescent through the air. The metal emergency door of the underground market bucked with a heavy, hollow *clang*."Ethan," Sarah whispered from the darkness behind me. She was propped against a stack of moldering flour sacks, her hands still gripping the edges of the tactical vest I’d forced onto her. "That’s not the rain. It’s too rhythmic.""I know," I said.I didn't turn around. I kept my eyes pinned to the rusted viewing slit of the reinforced door. We had been deep inside the subterranean belly of the old Mapo underground market for six hours. The air down here was thick, smelling of old concrete, damp garlic, and the stale grease of a hundred abandoned street-food stalls. It was dark, save for the faint, battery-powered lantern I’d set on a plastic crate between us.*Clang.*The impact was lower this time, near the baseline of the iron frame. I kept the tactical shotgun raised, my finger resting lightly against the trigger. I only had one Dragon’s Breath shell left in the tube. If whatever was outside ma

The scythe-like bone blades hissed as they sliced through the falling rain, stopping less than an inch from my left ear. The air coming off the creature’s arm smelled of wet zinc and scorched copper."Don't move," I muttered, my voice barely a whisper. My own heart felt like a hammer hitting an anvil inside my chest. "Sarah. Can you hear me? Don't move a damn muscle.""It's... it's looking at me, Ethan," Sarah rasped. She was flat on her back, the armored tactical vest I had thrown onto her chest rising and falling with her ragged breaths. The violet veins along her neck were pulsing so hard they looked like they were trying to tear through her pale skin. "It’s not using its ears. It’s inside my head. It’s screaming at me to crawl to it.""Don't," I said.I didn't turn my head to look at the roof of the Daewoo Labo van. I didn't need to. The blue light bleeding from Sarah’s eyes wasn't like the warm glow of the system interface. It was a cold, neon luminescence that seemed to fracture the darkness of the alleyway, casting long, jagged shadows against the wet brick walls."Sarah!" I shouted, ignoring the dull, throbbing ache in my left shoulder where her crowbar had clipped me.She didn't hear me. Her fingers remained clawed deep into her scalp, her body arching off the wet asphalt in a rigid, unnatural spasm. The rhythmic, frantic clicking from the rooftops reached a deafening crescendo. The Lurkers—at least a dozen of them—were dropping down the sides of the high-rise buildings like overgrown, skinless spiders, their long, emaciated limbs scratching deep gouges into the concrete. They were drawn by her scream, but as they hit the ground, they froze. The monsters didn't lunge. The rain over Mapo-gu didn't wash away the stench of rotting meat; it just made it heavy, pressing the smell deep into the cracked asphalt of the narrow alleyways.I stood paralyzed for a few seconds, staring into the thick, gray mist where Raven had vanished. The heat from my shotgun’s explosive blast was still sizzling against the damp brick walls, vaporizing the falling drops into a thin ghost of steam. *“They were already dead before the sky broke.”* Her parting words looped in my head like a broken record, cutting deeper than the actual cold."Hey," a raw, trembling voice cut through the ringing in my ears. "Hey! Are you... are you going to kill me now?"I turned slowly. Inside the cramped cargo bed of the overturned Daewoo Labo delivery van, Sarah Jenkins was curled into a tight ball, her arms wrapped fiercely around her knees. Her dark hair was plastered across her face, but her wide, bloodshot eyes were fixed entirely on the smoking 12-gauge in my hands. In a country like Sout
