THE FIRST BLOW

The rain had finally stopped, but the silence that followed was somehow worse. Ethan Chen stood in the center of his tiny apartment, every nerve in his body screaming with tension. The system's countdown was ticking in his mind like a bomb. Fifteen minutes. That was all the time he had before three killers came through that door. He scanned the room desperately. A studio with a kitchenette and a bathroom. There was nowhere to hide. Nowhere to run. He had to fight. He had to win. Or he would never see Lily's face again.

"You are certain about this?" Ethan whispered to the system.

"One hundred percent certain," the system replied. "They are professionals. They will not hesitate. They will not show mercy. If you want to survive, you must be willing to do what they cannot."

Ethan took a deep breath and forced his hands to stop shaking. The system had given him temporary enhancements. Enhanced reflexes. Increased speed. But it would only last thirty minutes. He had to end this quickly.

The door exploded inward.

Three men burst through the entrance, moving with practiced efficiency. They were dressed in black from head to toe. Their faces were hidden behind masks. Their weapons were drawn and ready. They scanned the room, expecting to find a terrified man cowering in the corner.

Instead, they found Ethan waiting for them in the center of the room.

His hands were raised. His expression was eerily calm. For one split second, the assassins hesitated. Something was wrong. This was not how the target was supposed to react. They had done this a hundred times before. The men always begged. They always cried. They always tried to run.

Ethan did none of those things.

He moved before they could react. His speed was inhuman, almost impossible to track with the naked eye. He ducked under the first man's gun and drove his elbow straight into the man's throat. There was a sickening crunch, and the assassin collapsed, gasping for air that would not come.

Ethan grabbed the fallen gun and swung it like a club, catching the second man across the face. The impact sent blood spraying across the wall. The man staggered backward, his nose shattered, his eyes rolling in his head.

The third man opened fire.

Bullets tore through the air around Ethan. He rolled, dodging the shots with movements that felt almost choreographed. The system was feeding him data. Predictive algorithms. Optimal angles. Weak points. He was moving like a machine, each action perfectly calculated.

The third man kept firing, but Ethan was already behind him. He kicked the man's legs out from under him, sending him crashing to the floor. The gun skittered across the linoleum, and Ethan stomped on the man's wrist, breaking it with a sickening crack.

But the fight was not over. The second man had recovered. He lunged at Ethan with a knife, driving the blade deep into Ethan's side.

The pain was excruciating. White hot agony lanced through Ethan's body. He screamed, but he did not stop fighting. He slammed his fist into the man's face, feeling bone give way beneath his knuckles. The man went down in a heap, unconscious before he hit the ground.

The first man was still gasping on the floor, trying to draw breath through his crushed throat. Ethan left him there. He had more immediate problems.

The third man was trying to crawl toward the door. His broken wrist was useless, but he was still moving. Still trying to escape. Still trying to warn his employers that the mission had failed.

Ethan stepped on his back and pressed down hard. The man groaned in pain, his body going still beneath the weight.

"Who sent you?" Ethan demanded. "Tell me who sent you, and I might let you live."

The man laughed. It was a wet, rattling sound. "You think I am afraid of you? Marcus Wu owns me. He owns my family. If I talk, they die. If I do not talk, I die. Either way, I am finished."

The system chimed in Ethan's ear. "Interrogation protocol activated. Using points to access psychological profiling."

A new screen appeared in Ethan's vision. The assassin's personal information flashed before his eyes. His name was Zhang Wei. He had a wife named Li Mei and two children, a boy and a girl. He had a gambling problem that had left him deep in debt. Marcus Wu had been paying his creditors in exchange for his services. If Marcus found out he had failed, his family would be slaughtered.

Ethan read the information aloud. He watched the assassin's face go pale beneath his mask.

"I know about your wife," Ethan said. "I know about your children. I know about the gambling debts. I know Marcus is threatening your family to keep you in line. What if I offered you a different deal?"

The assassin stared up at him, his eyes wide with fear. "What kind of deal?"

"Tell me everything you know about Marcus Wu. Tell me who else is involved. Tell me what they are planning. And I will protect your family. I will make sure they are safe from Marcus and his people."

"You cannot protect them," the assassin whispered. "No one can protect them from Marcus. He is too powerful. Too connected. He will find them. He will kill them all."

"I am more powerful than Marcus," Ethan said. "I am the heir to the Chen family. I have resources he does not know about. I have allies he cannot imagine. I can protect your family. But only if you give me something in return."

The assassin hesitated. He was terrified of Marcus. But he was even more terrified of what Ethan might do to his children if he refused to cooperate. He broke down and confessed everything.

Marcus had been tracking Ethan for months. He knew about Lily's illness. He knew about Sophia's affair. He knew exactly when to strike. The assassin did not know why Marcus hated Ethan so much. He only knew that Marcus's mother had ordered the hit. Helen Wu wanted Ethan dead. She had always wanted him dead, ever since the day his mother died.

Ethan's blood ran cold. "What do you know about my mother's death?"

The assassin froze. "Nothing. I swear. I was not involved. I was not even working for Marcus back then. Please. I do not know anything about that. I was just following orders. I did not know who you were. I did not know it was personal."

The system's voice spoke in Ethan's mind. "He is telling the truth. He was not involved in the original conspiracy. He does not know the details of your mother's murder. He is just a foot soldier. A pawn."

Ethan looked down at the terrified man beneath his foot. He thought about Lily. He thought about her smile. Her laugh. The way she looked at him with such trust, such love. Then he looked at the blood on his hands and felt the weight of what he had done.

"Let him go," Ethan said.

The system protested. "He is a liability. He will warn Marcus. He will bring more assassins. It is dangerous to let him live."

"He has a wife and children," Ethan replied. "I have killed enough people tonight. I will not add an innocent family to that list. Let him go."

The assassin scrambled to his feet, clutching his broken wrist. He looked at Ethan with a mixture of fear and gratitude. "Thank you," he whispered. "I will not forget this. I will disappear. No one will ever know what happened here tonight."

"Make sure of it," Ethan said. "Because if I ever see your face again, I will not show you the same mercy."

The assassin fled into the night.

Ethan stood in the ruins of his apartment. Two bodies lay on the floor, the blood pooling around them. The walls were spattered with red. His side was still bleeding from the knife wound. He was exhausted. Broken. But he was alive.

The system chimed softly. "Mission complete. Combat survival achieved. Bonus points awarded for interrogation success. Total points: two hundred and fifty."

Ethan collapsed into a chair. His hands were shaking uncontrollably. He had killed people. Real people. He had never done anything like this before in his life. The guilt was overwhelming, threatening to swallow him whole.

"You did what was necessary," the system said gently. "They would have killed you. They would have killed your daughter. There was no other choice."

Ethan knew the system was right. But knowing did not make the guilt go away. He took a deep breath and forced himself to focus. He could not fall apart now. He had work to do. His daughter needed him. His enemies were still out there.

The system presented a new mission. Someone in Ethan's past was feeding information to his enemies. A traitor. Someone who knew he was still alive and was reporting his movements. Ethan needed to find this person and neutralize them.

Ethan thought about his past. There were not many people who knew his true identity. His father, who had been too weak to protect him. His stepmother, who had orchestrated his exile. A few trusted servants who had since disappeared. The traitor could be any of them.

The system provided a list of potential suspects. Ethan recognized every name on that list. People he had trusted. People he had loved. People who had betrayed him in ways he was only beginning to understand.

He would have to confront them all.

Ethan limped to the window and looked out at the city skyline. Somewhere out there, Marcus and Helen were celebrating. They thought they had won. They thought he would just roll over and die. They had no idea what they had unleashed.

The system's voice cut through his thoughts. "Remember. You have two weeks. Your daughter's condition will worsen rapidly without treatment. Every day you waste brings her closer to death. The cure requires one million points. You have earned two hundred and fifty. Complete your missions, young master. Your daughter's life depends on it."

Ethan clenched his fists. Two weeks. One million points. It seemed impossible. But he had already done the impossible tonight. He had survived. He had fought back. He had taken the first step.

He would not stop. He would not rest. He would save his daughter. He would destroy his enemies. He would take back everything that was stolen from him.

This was only the beginning.

She had been working nonstop since they arrived. "A few more days. Maybe a week. I need more supplies. The Wu family destroyed most of my equipment. I am working with what I have."Ethan nodded. "I will get you whatever you need. Just tell me."Sarah sighed. "What I need is the original medical records. The ones the Wus have hidden in their vault. Without those, I cannot confirm the exact formula of the poison. I can make a general antidote, but it might not be strong enough. Lily might not su
