Soren's POV

The chamber’s floor cracked open with a sound like thunder.

The ring flared white, and the thing beyond didn’t just push, it roared through.

A voice cut through the whine of the fold, cold and ancient, right beside my ear: “Soren.”

It knew my name. I didn’t have time to wonder how. The three of us moved as one for the first time in our lives.

The future Soren slammed both palms on the central console. “Barrier now! Full power!”

Caleb didn’t even hesitate. His spatial ability

  • CHAPTER 67: WHAT CALEB FORGOT

Soren's POVMaelin’s voice cut through the tension like a blade. “Caleb. We need you to see the training files again. Not just the fragments, the real ones.”Caleb sat up straighter on the cold metal table, his scarred face tightening. “I already told you what I remember. Laboratory. Researchers. An experiment that ended with people being pulled out. That’s it.”Nadia leaned against the console, rifle still ready. “And you still don’t know why.”I crossed my arms, watching Caleb’s eyes flicker with that old pain he refused to name. The wind outside howled louder, carrying the distant pulse of the light column that had been getting brighter every day. Whatever was coming for this anchor site was already close. We all felt it.Maelin didn’t waste time. She tapped a tablet and slid it across the table. “Medical and research records recovered from the old facility. After the first gateway failures, they tried memory partitioning on the operators. To stop them from losing control.”Caleb’s

  • CHAPTER 66: THE LAST ANCHOR

Soren's POVMaelin took us to a temporary command center a few kilometres from the light column. The building was half-buried in rubble, but the inside looked like a high-tech war room. Screens covered every wall, showing live feeds from across the ruined districts. In the middle, a big holographic map pulsed with red dots marking unstable gateways. Red dots that were spreading faster now, closer to us.The missing settlement had been built around an old spatial anchor. According to the surviving records, the anchor had operated safely for years before suddenly disappearing. The settlement’s people might still be alive, but there was no reliable way to reach them. The network just… cut them off. The last feed from the settlement street was frozen on a single empty doorway, like the people had stepped through and it had closed behind them. No blood. No explosion. Just gone.I recognized the pattern of the failure. It was exactly like what happened when I used too much of my spatial sto

  • CHAPTER 65: EARTH IS NOT UNDER YOUR COMMAND

Soren's POVI forced my spatial ability to settle. The device in Maelin’s hand was humming against the air around my fingers, cutting off my connection like a blade through silk. I pushed back hard, willing the field to hold. The device sparked once, then flickered. I pushed again, stronger this time, and a small distortion rippled through the space between us. The device sparked harder, then died completely. Her soldiers immediately raised their weapons.Nadia stepped forward, rifle steady in both hands. “If any of you fire, this stops being a negotiation and turns into a full battle. We’re all dead in seconds. Think about that.”For several seconds, neither side moved. The only sound was the low hum of the dying device and the distant pulse of the light column overhead.Maelin raised one hand slowly, palm open. “Stand down. All of you.”Her team lowered their rifles, but their eyes stayed locked on us, waiting for any sudden move.Maelin lowered her own device and stepped closer, vo

  • CHAPTER 64: THE PEOPLE WHO CAME PREPARED

Soren's POVThe archive screen went completely dark.Caleb stood frozen, staring at the red line stamped across the bottom of the screen. STATUS: MEMORY PARTITIONED. His face had gone the color of old paper. “That’s not possible,” he whispered. “I never touched that program. I studied folded space until my hands shook. I tested the dangers of the Fold until I thought I’d lose my mind. But this… this says I was part of it. Part of me.”Nadia didn’t lower her rifle. She just stared at him, eyes hard. “Caleb, talk to me. Right now. Every single thing you remember about the Anchor Program. Don’t leave anything out. Not one detail.”Caleb swallowed hard, then started talking fast, like he was trying to outrun the words. “I studied folded space. That was my job. I tested the boundaries of reality. I pushed the limits until things broke. I discovered how the Fold could tear a hole in time and space and suck you through if you weren’t careful. But I never went near that research chamber. I ne

  • CHAPTER 63: THE MAN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH

Soren's POVCaleb slammed his fist on the console again, harder this time. The whole archive shook. “No. I never worked with any of them. I studied folded space, Nadia. I tested the dangers of the Fold. I discovered how it rips reality apart. But I never touched some stupid Anchor Program. Never. You hear me? Never.”Nadia didn’t lower her rifle. She just stared at the screen, eyes narrowed. “Then who the hell is that photo of, Caleb? Because that guy on your left… he looks exactly like Soren. Same jaw. Same eyes. Same stupid smirk like he’s already planning something. And that smirk is on your face in this picture.”Caleb stumbled back until he hit the wall. His breathing came fast and shallow. “That’s not me. And that’s definitely not Soren. I never set foot near that facility. I swear on everything I’ve survived. I swear!”I stepped between them, voice low but sharp. “Nadia, pull every single record on that program. Don’t stop until it’s empty. Everything. Including the evacuation

  • CHAPTER 62: THE VOICE FROM ANOTHER WORLD

Soren's POVThe archive screen suddenly lit up again, that same glowing text searing across it.*INCOMING CONNECTION REQUEST: EARTH.*I froze, hand still on the console. “Caleb, no. Don’t touch it.”Caleb lunged anyway, fingers flying toward the panel. “This is bullshit, Soren. Who the hell is sending this? Let me shut it down before…”The connection ignored him. The screen didn’t dim. Instead it brightened, and a woman’s face filled the display. She looked rough around the edges, like she’d been through hell. Gray streaks in her dark hair, torn uniform, eyes sharp with exhaustion. “My name is Mara Venn. I’m from Orthea. We used to be connected to hundreds of worlds through the same network. The Fold was just one of our gateways.”Nadia raised her rifle. “Keep talking.”Mara didn’t slow down. “The network was built for communication and controlled travel between worlds. But the gateway on Earth went unstable after you reconnected it. That signal is racing through the entire network ri
