The Crawford Enterprises boardroom hummed with anticipation as executives filed in for Michael's first major presentation as COO. Richard sat at the head of the table, reviewing documents with focused attention. Eric entered last, nodding confidently to Jason who sat rigidly with a laptop before him.

"Let's begin," Richard announced, gesturing to Michael. "I understand you've accelerated the Smart Buildings implementation."

Michael rose, buttoning his jacket with ease. "Thank you, Father. Today I'm presenting the full Digital Integration Framework, including projected financial impacts across all divisions."

As Michael connected his presentation to the main display, he noticed Jason's subtle movements—fingers nervously tapping keys, executing the malware Eric had provided. Michael suppressed a smile, having anticipated this exact sabotage.

The screen flickered momentarily as Jason's malware activated, designed to corrupt Michael's financial projections during the critical presentation. However, instead of the embarrassing failure Eric had planned, the slides displayed enhanced versions of Michael's original projections—showing even more impressive numbers than he'd initially prepared.

"As you can see," Michael continued smoothly, "our predictive maintenance systems alone reduce operating costs by 17.3% across all properties in the test group. When fully implemented, this translates to approximately $34 million in annual savings for our current portfolio."

Eric's brow furrowed as he studied the slides, confusion evident in his expression. This was not the outcome he'd expected. Jason stared at his laptop in disbelief, frantically checking to confirm his sabotage had executed.

Michael continued his presentation without missing a beat. "Beyond cost savings, I'm proposing a new division: Crawford Digital Security. By leveraging our internal building security protocols as commercial services, we create an entirely new revenue stream projected at $45 million in the first year alone."

Richard leaned forward, clearly impressed. "These projections seem ambitious."

"They're conservative, actually," Michael replied confidently. "The pilot implementation is already exceeding these metrics. We've included a contingency buffer of 20% in all calculations."

As Michael walked the board through detailed implementation timelines, he observed Eric's growing discomfort. His brother had expected humiliation, not triumph. Jason looked physically ill, knowing his attempted sabotage had somehow backfired spectacularly.

"Any questions?" Michael asked as he concluded the presentation.

"Yes," Eric interjected, his voice tightly controlled. "These financial projections seem significantly more optimistic than what was shared in the preliminary reports."

"The preliminary numbers were deliberately conservative," Michael replied smoothly. "I prefer to under-promise and over-deliver, as I mentioned in our previous meeting."

Richard nodded approvingly. "Prudent approach. The board approves the Digital Integration Framework and the creation of Crawford Digital Security, under your direct supervision, Michael."

"Thank you, Father," Michael replied, gathering his materials as the meeting adjourned.

As executives filtered out, Michael noticed Eric pull Jason aside, fury evident in his tense whispers. Michael walked past them, offering a pleasant nod. "Gentlemen, thank you for your attention during the presentation. Your support means everything."

Jason paled visibly while Eric's expression hardened. "Always happy to support my brother's... initiatives," Eric replied, each word carefully measured.

After exiting the boardroom, Michael ducked into a side corridor and checked his phone. The counter-malware he'd secretly installed on the presentation system had worked perfectly—not only neutralizing Jason's sabotage but replacing it with enhanced projections that made Michael's initiative appear even more promising.

"Amateur move, brother," Michael murmured to himself. "Did you really think I wouldn't anticipate your first attack?"

The warehouse lab had been transformed yet again since Michael's last visit. A dedicated medical research area now occupied one corner, equipped with specialized neurological monitoring equipment. Megan worked at her usual station while Olivia calibrated security protocols at hers.

"Our guest has arrived," Michael announced, guiding Rebecca through the entrance.

Both women looked up, curiosity evident in their expressions. Rebecca stared wide-eyed at the sophisticated facility, clearly impressed despite her attempts to maintain professional detachment.

"Rebecca Chen, meet Olivia Wagner and Megan Chen—no relation, I assume?"

Rebecca shook her head. "Not that I'm aware of."

"Olivia handles our security architecture and authentication systems," Michael explained.

What exactly is Buzzer?" Katherine held up the phone, suspicion evident in her narrowed eyes.Michael maintained a neutral expression as he buttoned his shirt. "It's a confidential Crawford security initiative. Father authorized it directly after the Westside Development irregularities.""And you didn't think to mention this to me?" Katherine's tone was perfectly calibrated to convey hurt rather than the calculation Michael now recognized behind her questions."It's classified, Katherine. Even Eric doesn't have clearance." Michael took the phone, tucking it into his inner jacket pocket. "The project integrates next-generation security protocols into our building management systems. Father wants it kept strictly confidential until implementation."Katherine's posture relaxed slightly. "I'm your wife, Michael. We shouldn't have secrets.""You're right," Michael replied, kissing her cheek. "I should have told you. Just keep it between us, al

"Watch this," Megan said, excitement evident in her voice. She picked up the first device, which immediately activated at her touch. "The interface is now calibrated to recognize not just hand size and grip pattern, but finger pressure, temperature, and even the subtle electrical signals from the nervous system."She handed the device to Michael, and the interface immediately reconfigured to his parameters. "Impressive," he nodded. "But you mentioned something new?""This is the new part," Megan grinned, taking the device back. "We've programmed all six prototypes to recognize the same set of users." She gestured to Olivia, who approached from her workstation. "Pick any one."Olivia selected a device from the middle of the array. Immediately, the interface configured to her specifications. "Now try another," Megan urged.Olivia chose a different prototype, with identical results. "No login, no password, no thumbprint scan," Megan explained. "Pure neural-response authentication. The de

"How long has it been encrypted?" Michael asked, examining Rebecca's corrupted research files on the larger screen in his apartment. They'd moved from the hallway to his living room, cups of strong coffee between them as they worked through the night."I don't know exactly," Rebecca admitted, rubbing her tired eyes. "I was working on the peripheral nerve regeneration simulations yesterday. Everything was fine. Today I opened the primary neural pathway models and found... this." She gestured at the garbled code filling the screen.Michael's fingers flew across the keyboard, diving deeper into the encryption pattern. With his enhanced perception, he could see structures that would be invisible to others—telltale signatures of the malware's origin."This is NeuraCrypt," he murmured, recognizing the code architecture from a cybersecurity briefing he'd attended in his previous life. "Military-grade encryption with a backdoor master key held only by the deploying party."Rebecca looked at h

Michael arrived at his father's mansion as dusk settled across the manicured grounds. Eric's Aston Martin was already parked near the entrance."So he's already here," Michael muttered, checking his watch. The emergency call had come less than thirty minutes ago.Henderson opened the door before Michael could knock. "Good evening, Mr. Michael. Your father and brother are waiting in the study.""Thank you. How long has Eric been here?""Approximately forty-five minutes, sir," Henderson replied, his expression neutral.Michael approached the study, hearing raised voices through the partially open door."—cannot believe you would be so careless with company funds!" Richard's voice carried, unusually sharp."Father, I've explained—" Eric began."Save it," Richard cut him off. Michael adjusted his tie as the Crawford Enterprises boardroom filled with executives. The familiar faces that had once seemed friendly now appeared as masks hiding unknown agendas. He watched Jason whispering something to Vanessa, their heads bent close together before they separated to take their seats."Showtime," Michael muttered under his breath, straightening his presentation materials.Richard Crawford entered the room with characteristic authority, commanding attention without speaking a word. Behind him trailed Eric, who flashed Michael a smile that didn't reach his eyes."Let's get started," Richard announced, taking his seat at the head of the table. "Michael, I understand you have a proposal for the board?"Michael rose, buttoning his jacket with practiced ease. "Thank you, Father. Today I'm presenting the Crawford Smart Buildings Initiative."He clicked the remote, and the projection screen illuminated with his carefully crafted presentation."Our family built its legacy
