Chapter 6.

Entering into Bob’s bedroom to see that it was just a regular fever and nothing like what befall Ben they exhaled in relief while sitting around him.

Due to the way they stormed into the room, Bob woke up from his sleep, surprised to see them there he asked, “You are back, or is this a dream?”

“No father, it’s not.” Sean answered with a smile, trying to put away the sorrowful looks from their face in order to spook Bob or cause him to go into stock.

“You don’t have to worry about me, I know.” Bob said as he saw through their pretentious smile. He felt Ben leaving this world which was the reason he came down with the fever. Even they talked in his dreams days ago with Ben telling him that the boys have come to the knowledge the truth about him being a Carr and would seek answers.

Neither of them knew what he was talking about even so he had to elaborate, beginning with an apology. “Dylan, I’m so sorry you had to find out about your father the way you did. He was truly my brother but only in the same manner as Logan is your brother.”

“So you are truly the son of Erroll?” Sean asked about his origin to be sure of his root, even as they all wondered how Bob came to know about Ben’s passing and what they found out about him on his deathbed.

“Yes Sean, I am and Corriver is my home and by extension yours.” Bob answered understanding the reason why Sean asked that question.

Then Caleb, Gracie and Marta walked into the room with William since they weren’t coming forth. They overheard the last thing Bob said as they entered the room therefore William knew Sean wasn’t the one the bugbear was targeting leaving only Logan and Dylan in the picture.

“What’s going on, you all should let your father rest.” Marta didn’t know what the conversation was about but definitely knew Bob needed to rest because she couldn’t bear to lose him too.

“It’s okay Marta, it’s important they know their origin.” Bob chuckled knowing she cared so much for him like she did for her husband.

Marta didn’t understand why he used the word ‘they’, she knew Logan was the only child adopted into the family because she conceived Dylan and Caleb in her womb and helped pull Sean and Gracie into this world from Bob’s late wife.

Gracie and Caleb were definitely confused too by his words, they were younger therefore didn’t know of Logan’s adoption because it wasn’t something their parents talked about. Even Sean and Dylan that knew of it never talked brought it up so he’s been an older brother all their life. Meanwhile William took a seat with so much interest in what Bob was about to share with the family as it would uncover the secret to why a bugbear was after Logan or Dylan.

After they were all seated ready to hear what Bob had to share, he continued. “Your father was brought to us as a boy for safe keeping, he was only eight when we first met. Being the only child of Erroll I loved having Ben as my brother so my father adopted and changed his name to Benjamin. Twenty years ago, Ben found a child in the river while fishing and wished to do for it what my father did for him, but taking the child as his would complicate things since Marta was almost due with the child she was carrying. We couldn’t call him Dylan’s twin so the logical thing to do was to call him mine since Sean was almost two.”

“Did you find out where the child was from?” William asked, interrupting Bob’s story, he really wanted to narrow things down as to why the bugbear was there in Corriver and couldn’t wait another second.

“You shouldn’t be here.” Logan said to him, he still disliked him because his perfect family was beginning to crumble from the moment he came into their lives.

“No son, why do you ask?” Bob answered the question anyways, as he noticed William knew something that needed to be shared in that room.

William hesitated to answer that question because he knew how Logan and Dylan would react, the two of them never liked or believed the story he told about the bugbear and the way they looked at him also said they didn’t want him to bring up the story again.

Sean, being more mature and reasonable, knew that William was desperate to find answers and would not stop until he got it, discarding Logan and Dylan's opinion, knowing they didn’t want to know their roots, he said to William. “Go ahead.”

“I think that child you found in the river is my cousin.” William said something totally different from what they were all expecting to hear. He came to this conclusion after much consideration. Finding out that Dylan was truly a Carr, Logan was the only person that fit the profile of those who the bugbear usually targets.

“And how did you come to this conclusion, child?” Bob asked, because William’s expression showed he had a logical explanation for his conclusion.

“This is insane.” Logan didn’t want to hear any more about the story of how came to be in Corriver. “I am your son, father.”

“You can’t deny who you are. A part of you knows it’s true.” William said, stopping Logan from storming out of the room before answering Bob’s question. “Twenty years ago, the Queen died during childbirth, but for years rumor had it that the child survived but no one could prove it. I was barely three years old when my father ascended the throne but I remember the tales. Weeks ago, the monster that tried to kill me for years also tried to kill you, Logan.”

“I am not listening to this anymore,” Logan finally stormed out of the room with Sean chasing after him to make sure he did not do anything stupid.

“You said my father was brought to you for safe keeping, do you know what form?” Dylan asked Bob. Now that Logan and Sean had known their origin, it was only fair that he wasn’t left out, at least he should know what destiny his father and the old lady talked about.

“My father was the only one who knew the actual reason, what I got from Ben was that someone wanted him dead, someone who already succeeded in killing four of his elder brothers and cousins. Also he is from Rherar, your country William.” Bob added.

William already knew this so it didn’t cause the expected spike Bob was looking out for when he mentioned it, nevertheless he gave the response Bob was hoping to get. “The forgotten house of Carr to be precise…”

“You can’t know that for sure.” Marta asked William because he was too young to know such since Ben was brought to Corriver over three decades before his birth according to Bob’s story.

“I was brought up as a Prince therefore I’m quite conversant with the history of my people.”

“I have told you everything I know about your roots, I am sure William will do the honor of telling you the rest.” Bob said to Dylan and Caleb, while sounding like someone about to die even when his sickness wasn’t unto death.

Gracie then grabs a cup of water for him to drink because he’s been talking for a long time. “No need for Gracie, I served my purpose now I can die a fulfilled man. I leave you in the hands of your brothers. I'm sure they will do right by you my dear.” He said, though still taking the water she was offering.

“There shall be no talk of death, Bob.” Marta rebuked those words as he shut his eyes to sleep while she added. “Okay children, we’ve heard enough history for one day, let’s give the old a chance to rest.”

As they came outside to meet Logan and Sean, Caleb asked his brothers. "Does this mean we will be leaving Corriver soon?"

Caleb was only fifteen, yet from a very tender age, he hoped to travel the world and that zeal of his stopped Dylan, Logan and Sean from bringing him along on any of their mini adventures into the woods because he'd always raise their hopes high by wandering away from them.

"No little brother," Dylan answered.

"Yes Caleb," William said almost the same time as Dylan as though he was the one Caleb asked the question.

This conflicting response from the two of them caused Logan and Dylan to stare at William angrily while Cabel looked at them hoping they would come to a conclusion and tell him which it would be.

Sean on the other hand chose to stay out of it because at the end it was Logan and Dylan's decision to make, all he knew was that he would go with whatever choice they decide, whether it was to remain in Corriver or return to Rherar and face their destiny.

With the stare getting very intense, Sean said. "Brothers, cut this off. Take a day or two to think about it, I'm sure we'll reach a unanimous decision." He was also referring to William. Knowing his brothers very well, he was convinced they made the right call, one that he too would make if he were to be in their shoes yet he didn't want to impose in any form.
