After almost six hours of travel, with only a couple of short breaks along the way, Max and his team finally approached Blackreach City.

The first thing they noticed was the enormous wall surrounding the city. It stretched across the horizon, enclosing an area so vast that they could barely make out its full size from where they stood. The sight immediately lifted their spirits.

“That’s the city, right? We’re not wrong this time for sure!”

“It doesn’t look like a ruined city…”

“I can see some l

Max had some with him, but he needed multiple of them since he had already used a few of them before... In any case, he wasn’t wasting ammunition because the Railgun didn’t use conventional ammunition in the first place. Its internal energy system allowed it to repeatedly launch projectiles, although Max could already see the energy reserve decreasing with every shot. That meant he couldn’t simply fire endlessly. He would have to make every shot count. "Chamber, can you monitor the Railgun’s energy for me?" [ Understood. Current energy reserve: 66%.] "That’s plenty." Max looked toward the battlefield again. Farrah was still protecting Cang and Yueyi. Several Spyders had noticed the children and were attempting to reach them. Farrah immediately positioned herself between the machines and the children. She intercepted the first Spyder wielding an energy blade before it could attack, striking it hard enough to send its mechanical body crashing against an abandoned vehicle. Bo

The convoy continued moving through the uneven road, completely unaware that its route would soon become a battlefield.Max remained behind the broken concrete barrier, watching the machines through the scope of his rifle. The closer the convoy came, the more clearly he could see its formation. Several Reapers surrounded the trucks while dozens of Spyders moved through the nearby ruins, constantly scanning the area. The trucks themselves were heavily reinforced, their metal bodies covered in additional plating.Whatever was inside them, the machines clearly considered it valuable."Chamber," Max said quietly. "Give me the prisoner count."[ Scanning. ]A few seconds later, the answer appeared.[ Thirty-seven human life signatures detected. ]Max’s expression immediately became serious.Thirty-seven.At least thirty-seven people were being transported by the machines."How is their condition? It’s not too late to save them right?"[ I can’t tell. However, several subjects are suffering

Max didn’t immediately move as he saw it...His eyes remained fixed on the convoy in the distance as the heavy trucks continued along the road, surrounded by dozens of A.I. Soldiers. He already knew what was happening. The machine civilization had been capturing humans for a long time. Sometimes, they used them as living shields during battles, forcing human survivors to hesitate before firing their weapons. Other times, the captured humans were taken away for experiments. And the experiments had produced those mutants, aside from the side effects of Gene Enhancement Serums.Max couldn’t help but think about the strange creatures they had encountered earlier.Four arms... Four eyes... Distorted bodies... and abnormally long limbs. Those weren’t simply monsters that had appeared after the apocalypse.Without a doubt, they had been normal humans once. They were probably failed experiments too...After all, the machine civilization had been searching for something through those experimen

Max immediately slowed down the hoverboard.Farrah noticed his reaction and looked at him with concern."What is it?"Max didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he looked toward the ruins of several buildings in the distance.Something was there. He could sense multiple presences hiding among the damaged structures, and judging from their movements, they were not ordinary enemies...They could be other Survivors or perhaps a new set of A.I. Soldiers.Max thought for a moment before revealing what he had sensed."Someone is watching us."Farrah immediately became cautious."Survivors? Maybe the scouts outside the city...""I don’t think so."Max focused his senses in a certain direction.A few seconds later, several figures slowly appeared from behind the ruined buildings outside the main city...Farrah’s expression changed."What are those?"They were humans. At least, they had once been human. One of them had four arms and four eyes, with its distorted body covered in scars and patches

Before leaving Blackreach City, Max decided that there was one more thing they needed to take care of.The two children needed new clothes.Cang and Yueyi had been wearing the same few outfits for quite some time, and although their clothes were still usable, Max felt that there was no reason to let them continue wearing worn-out clothing now that they were returning to the Codebreakers Shelter."We should get them some new clothes first," Farrah suggested after seeing Max looking at their clothes.Max nodded in agreement. "Let’s buy several sets for each of them."The two children immediately became interested when they heard that."New clothes?" Yueyi asked, her eyes lighting up."Yes," Max replied with a smile. "You can choose some of them yourself."That was enough to make Yueyi excited. The group soon found a clothing store that still had plenty of children’s clothes available. Although the store was nowhere near as luxurious as the shops that had existed before the apocalypse, t

Later that day, Max finally finished checking most of his Legendary Caches...He had originally planned to stay away for a little longer, but after dealing with the Floating Citadel, there were several things he needed to take care of.More importantly, he had heard that Cade had already arrived at the shop. When Max entered Max’s Shop, he immediately noticed the young man standing behind the counter.Cade also noticed him.For a moment, neither of them said anything. Then Cade’s eyes widened slightly."Sir Max..."Max nodded."Yes."Cade looked at him for a few seconds before smiling."I’ve heard a lot about you."Max couldn’t help but smile as well."I’ve heard about you too."Of course, Max already knew who Cade was.As one of the newer members of the Codebreakers Guild, Cade’s name had already appeared in the guild’s information. More importantly, he was currently among the Top 10 Rankings. That alone was enough to make Max pay attention.Seeing him in person was still somewhat im
