Chris wiped his face, tiredly. He had cleaned through the large expanse of a basketball court. However, he heard voices and the door was yanked open. He looked in the direction the voices came from and he frowned.
“Excuse me, you can't come in here.” Chris walked toward the owner of the two voices. He recognized them immediately, Ren and Reid, they were the most notorious group in college, alongside their lackey who was standing behind them, Jose.
Ren and Reid halted at first, and then Ren spoke up, “Did you hear someone talking? Asking us not to come in?”
“Of course, I didn't.” Reid joked. “A poor cleaner like him wouldn't dare say that.” He pointed at Chris, bursting into a peal of mocking laughter.
Ren and Reid managed to calm their laughter and they went about the court, ignoring Chris. Their shoes were wet and muddy, leaving dirty footprints.
Chris was already having a headache seeing that. He rushed toward them, blocking their path. “I’m sorry, you would have to leave. The court is closed and I'm already done cleaning. You can't come in here and mess up the whole place.”
Chris was angry, his voice echoed through the court. Ren and Reid looked at each other and then at Jose quietly and before Chris knew what was happening, Jose rushed forward, smacking him.
Pak!
Chris’s face flew to one side.
Pak!!
Another slap came through, swinging his face to the other side. The intensity of the slap caused a ringing sound in his head and he staggered.
“Hmm…” Chris groaned, blood dripping from his mouth. He wiped the blood off his mouth, hissing.
Reid then stepped forward, with Ren and Jose stepping back, “That is a warning enough for you, dimwit.”
“You want to stop us? Do you know what is happening here?” Reid yelled, glaring at Chris. Chris was a bit scared, seeing the angry look in Reid’s eyes and he shook his head.
“Mike, the richest student in school is about to confess his feelings to his beautiful girl. So, you should pack your things and leave. Don’t interrupt us!”
“Understand?” He thundered.
Chris jumped at that, his head banging low, “But.. But I have to clean. If this place gets dirty, I won’t be able to receive my work-study wages.”
There were a lot of things at stake for him. He would not be able to afford food for the next three days if he lost his pay.
“Whose business is that?” Reid burst into laughter, the others following along.
“No one asked you to be poor!” Ren joined in. Even Jose had a mocking look in his eyes.
“How do you even eat with such a job? Your parents must have abandoned you long ago.”
Chris watched them, feeling hurt. It wasn't news that he was at the bottom of the food chain, but seeing those boys, dressed in flashy clothes while they mocked him, he was once again aware of his poor situation.
But he couldn't leave still, “Please–”
“Get the fuck out of here! You can clean up the court when we are done.” Reid kicked him in his calf. Chris’s legs bent forward and he went tumbling to the ground. His jaw hit the hard floor, his face on the floor and he groaned in pain.
Reid approached him again, wanting to hit him but he crawled, away, holding his jaw. He was frightened. They weren't the most notorious group for show.
“That’s right. Crawl away, pauper.” They laughed. Chris didn't look back and he couldn't even walk well because his leg was still hurt from the kick.
His face had been dirtied from the muddy footprints. He had no choice but to stay in the storeroom of the court. As he sat on the floor, his eyes stung with tears from the humiliation and the pain.
He sat in that position for over thirty minutes, feeling lost. He needed comfort, he then took out his phone to call his girlfriend. Hearing her voice would make him cheer up.
However, before he could even dial her number, he heard some commotion from the court.
“Say yes!”
“Say yes!!”
“Kiss him!”
Kiss? Chris was immediately intrigued. He had always been an advocate for love and he wanted to watch the beautiful confession moment.
He carefully opened the door, not wanting Ren and Reid to know he was looking. Through a crack in the door, he stared at the couple who were already kissing passionately.
The girl had her hands around Mike’s neck, kissing him passionately.
But then Chris froze, and a grappling feeling of shock took over his body.
“Melissa.” He muttered in disbelief.
His girlfriend was kissing Mike!
“Melissa!” This time, he yelled loudly, slamming the door open, and rushed toward her, tearing her away from Mike.

You Have No Power
Gerald had long left the hospital, however, his face had deteriorated and he had also refused treatment from the hospital. He refused to let any doctor touch his face apart from Doctor Blackman. However, no matter how he reached out to the doctor, he never got a reply. Now, he was staying at the secluded house Baron had grudgingly provided for him with an attendant by his side. “What is he saying? Did you tell him I agreed to the surgery he proposed before now?” He asked desperately. “I am sorry,” The attendant apologized with pity in her eyes. “He has warned me to stop contacting him otherwise he is going to involve the police.”“Ohh…” Gerald let out, his finger nicking his flesh as he was slowly immersed in worry. The doctors had said he had a tendency to have a stroke now due to the way his health had deteriorated. But then, he wasn't ready to give up. He was going to find adequate help by all means. “Contact Baron.” He ordered the attendant. At this point, he had no choice b
Released
Five days later…“Have you heard?” A police officer rushed to the detective in charge of Chris’s case with a bewildered look.“What is it?” The detective asked, his gaze displeased. He had a lot on his mind, he was trying to connect the Westminster family to the bomblast but there were no leads. He also has not been able to contact Chase about their ongoing deal. “Reid has been found.” The officer said and immediately the detective whipped his head in his direction. “What…what do you mean?” He asked shakily. “Oh, you don’t know?” The officer laughed scornfully. “I thought you were the detective in charge of the case.” Of course, he knew this beforehand but then they all knew how much the detective had been so hyper about the case.“What do you mean by that?” The detective snapped! “It’s my case and I know everything about it.” He lied through his teeth so he wouldn't be seen as a fool. He was the one in charge but how could he not know? “I guess you know then…” The officer chuckle
Emptiness
“Family member?” Gerald muttered, his eyes flickering to the empty space in the corner of the ward. He was just like that, empty. His life, empty. On the other hand, the nurse wondered why he was thinking deeply about a family member. Did a billionaire like him not have someone to call his own?“Don’t you have one?” She probed. She was just curiously asking but Gerald felt like she was mocking him.“I do.” He blurted out without thinking. “Can you give me their names or contact?” She asked joyfully, feeling like there was progress. At least, if he had a family, they could help oversee his checkup. “Baron…” He whispered. “My son, Baron Rice.” The feel of those words on his mouth left a bitter feeling. He didn't have a son, he just had people he could use. “Okay, I will contact him. Rest well, for now.” The nurse quickly left. It was easy to get Baron’s contact especially when she contacted the police about Gerald’s case. They were overseeing the bomb blast incident. An hour later,
Sweet Smile
Gerald’s frail body was spread on the hospital bed while he stared at the white ceiling in frozen shock. He didn't know how he got there or how long he had been there. He just opened his eyes to see that he was there. He called for Chase, but there was nothing. No one was by his side. The door opened and he whirled his head to the side weakly. He saw a nurse walking in with the sweetest smile on her face and in that moment, his heart shifted a little. No one had ever smiled so sweetly at him before. Not even his parents. All his life, he was surrounded by misery. “Excuse me, good day.” She greeted. “I see you are awake. I would like to do a quick check-up on you. You don’t mind if I touch you, right?”Gerald couldn't speak, so he only nodded. The nurse moved closer, and though he didn't suffer any burns from the blast, she noticed that his face was a bit weird with little bruises here and there. He wasn't like this when he came in with the emergency unit. “Uhm, Mr. Rice, did you
We Will Find Reid
It had been two days since Chris had been wallowing in the police cell with the detective in charge of his case passing mocking remarks to him. However, Chris was counting down in his mind, until the time his father would make a move. With the true Westminster power, he should be out in a day. However, it was now stretching to the third day. “Hey, you.” The detective walked to his cell, with a sneer that had been plastered on his face for the last 48hours. He gripped the bars and poked his face between the bars. His mashed-up face between those bars made Chris cringe a bit and he pulled away, due to the stench emanating from him. “Aren't you going to go home? You stink.” He hissed. “Why would I?” The detective smiled, his yellow teeth more visible. “When I personally escort you into jail, then I will leave for home. For now, I just want to watch your misery—”Ring!Ring!!!The detective’s head whirled around when sudden ringing sounds filled everywhere. Different stations were ge
Everything Falling Apart
Chase frowned, confusion riddled him, “What do you mean I was fooled?”In that moment, Gerald chuckled, “Like I said, you are a loyal dog who would never change its stripes. Dogs like you…” He licked his lips, taunting Chase even more. “Will always be led around, used, deceived, and dumped.” “Shut the fuck up and tell me the truth! Did you send Greg to kill me or not?” Chase barked, holding onto the old man’s shoulder, “I signed a document. Did you send him to do that too?”Gerald wasn't moved by his barking, he only continued to smile. No answer. He was reeling in Chase’s pain. “Damn it!” Chase cursed and slowly let go of the old man. His feet moved backward as he stepped out of the basement. As soon as the door closed behind him, he stumbled to the ground, struggling to even breathe. Darkness had overshadowed the mansion, the night sky brooding heavily as a storm was about to happen. A storm was happening in Chase’s mind too. All along, he had his suspicions. Chris had easily ag
