The conversation between Alex and the receptionist started drawing attention from the people around them.
At first it was only a few curious glances.
Then whispers began.
“What's happening over there?”
Within moments, several customers who had been minding their own business slowly turned their heads toward the reception desk.
The raised voices, the mocking laughter, and the obvious tension between the poorly dressed young man and the sharply dressed receptionist made the situation impossible to ignore.
Soon more people gathered and a large crowd formed.
Expensive suits. Diamond watches. Designer dresses.
They stood there, watching Alex like he was some kind of entertainment.
Murmurs started spreading through the group.
“Who let this guy in here?”
“Look at his clothes.”
“He looks like he just crawled out of a dumpster.”
Another man snorted loudly. “This bank really needs better security.”
A woman holding a designer handbag wrinkled her nose as she looked Alex up and down.
“Honestly,” she said loudly to the person beside her, “I’ve seen better dressed beggars outside subway stations.”
Several people chuckled.
One middle-aged man shook his head slowly.
“How shameless can someone be?” he muttered. “Walking into Gold Crest Bank dressed like that.”
Another voice joined in.
“Maybe he got lost while looking for a soup kitchen.”
More laughter followed.
“Or maybe he came to ask for donations,” someone else added mockingly.
The insults kept coming.
“Those shoes look older than my company.”
“That hoodie probably cost two dollars.”
“Even my driver dresses better than him.”
“Someone should throw him out already.”
Alex heard every word.
Every insult.
Every laugh.
But he did not respond.
His face remained calm as he looked back at the receptionist.
“I don’t want any trouble,” he said calmly. “I just came to withdraw some money.”
He paused before adding honestly, “I need to get something to eat.”
That statement only made things worse.
The crowd burst into louder laughter.
“Did you hear that?”
“He came here for food money!”
“This isn’t a charity center!”
One man laughed so hard he had to wipe his eyes.
“You’re in the wrong place, kid,” he sneered. “Go beg outside a fast food restaurant instead.”
Another woman scoffed.
“Honestly, this is embarrassing.”
The receptionist crossed her arms and smiled smugly.
“Oh, now I understand,” she said loudly so everyone could hear. “You came here because you’re hungry?”
More laughter erupted.
She shook her head in exaggerated pity. “That’s truly tragic.”
Her eyes scanned his worn clothes again. “But let me give you some advice,” she said mockingly. “If you want food money, there are plenty of garbage bins behind restaurants.”
The crowd chuckled again.
Someone muttered loudly, “Yeah, maybe he’ll find leftovers.”
Another voice said, “Someone give him a dollar before he faints.”
A young banker standing nearby whispered to his colleague, “I bet he doesn’t even have five dollars.”
His colleague smirked. “You’re being generous.”
The insults kept coming from every direction.
“Look at that hoodie.”
“Those shoes are falling apart.”
“Did he steal them from a homeless shelter?”
“Even the janitors here wouldn’t dress like that.”
Through all of it, Alex stayed quiet.
He didn’t argue.
He didn’t shout.
He simply glanced around slowly.
That was when he noticed something.
Not far from the reception desk, a man in an expensive suit stood in front of a sleek machine built into the wall.
The man inserted a card.
Pressed some buttons.
Moments later, cash came out.
Alex’s eyes lit up slightly. “So that’s where you withdraw money,” he murmured.
He didn’t wait any longer.
Alex turned around and began walking toward the machine.
The receptionist noticed immediately.
“HEY!” she shouted sharply.
Her high heels clicked loudly against the floor as she hurried after him. “Where do you think you’re going?!”
Alex ignored her.
He continued walking calmly toward the machine.
The crowd followed with growing curiosity.
“Is he serious?”
“He’s actually going to try it!”
“This is going to be hilarious.”
The receptionist rushed closer, her voice rising with anger. “Stop right there!”
Alex didn’t stop.
Her face turned red with frustration. “Don’t you dare touch that machine!” she snapped. “If you do, I will call security immediately!”
Several people in the crowd laughed.
“Yes, please call security.”
“This clown needs to be thrown out.”
“Preferably by the collar.”
The receptionist continued shouting behind him. “Come back here right now!”
Her voice echoed through the bank. “That machine is not for people like you!”
Alex walked straight up to the machine.
He calmly took out the black card.
Behind him, the receptionist finally caught up.
Her hand reached forward as if she wanted to stop him physically.
“Are you deaf?!” she snapped. “I told you not to—”
Alex inserted the card and the machine beeped.
The screen lit up.
The receptionist froze for a split second.
Then she scoffed loudly.
“Unbelievable,” she muttered. “You really have no shame.”
The crowd gathered even closer.
“Watch,” someone whispered. “The machine will reject it.”
Another man laughed.
“Of course it will.”
“Cards with zero balance usually do.”
The receptionist folded her arms and sneered at Alex. “You know what?” she said mockingly. “Go ahead.”
Her tone dripped with sarcasm. “Let the machine prove what I’ve been saying this whole time.”
Alex calmly typed in the PIN he had memorized from the envelope.
The machine processed the request.
The screen displayed:
CURRENT BALANCE LOADING…
The receptionist chuckled.
Her earlier anger faded.
Now she looked excited.
“Oh this is perfect,” she said loudly.
The crowd leaned closer.
“Imagine thinking your empty card belongs in the machine of a prestigious bank like this.”
A man in the crowd laughed.
“This will be good.”
Another woman whispered, “I can’t wait to see his face.”
The receptionist smiled widely.
Her eyes sparkled with cruel amusement.
“I hope you’re ready,” she said to Alex mockingly. “Because when that screen shows zero dollars, you’re going to look like the biggest fool in the entire city.”
Several people laughed loudly.
Someone muttered, “He already does.”
The machine beeped again.
The receptionist leaned forward eagerly.
Her smile grew wider.
“Come on,” she whispered excitedly. “Let’s see how poor you really are.”
The machine finished processing.
Then suddenly—
The screen displayed the balance.
At the same moment, the machine’s voice announced clearly:
“Account balance: Eight hundred billion dollars.”
Silence.
Total silence.
The receptionist froze.
The crowd froze.

Alex frowned and said, “That’s not fair. Why would you even let something like this happen when I didn’t do anything wrong?”The man leaned back in his chair and looked at Alex like he was looking at a stubborn child.“Not fair?” the man repeated slowly, his lips curling slightly. “Young man, this is not a place where fairness is discussed like a classroom topic.”Alex’s expression stayed calm. “Then what is it?” he asked quietly. The man sighed and waved his hand lazily. “It is a place where orders are followed. And the order came from the dean.”Alex’s eyes narrowed slightly. “So you just threw my things out because someone said so?”The man nodded without hesitation. “Yes.”He leaned forward and tapped the table lightly. “Let me explain something to you in a way even you can understand. When the dean speaks, we don’t debate. We don’t argue. We act.”Alex let out a slow breath.“So anyone can walk in here, say anything, and you just obey?” he asked. The man smirked. “Not anyone. The

The manager staggered forward. His face was pale. His cheeks were still burning red.“Miss… please…” he said, his voice trembling. “I made a mistake. I didn’t know… I didn’t know who he was.”He pointed weakly at Alex. “If I had known, I would have never—”Isabella didn’t even look at him. “Enough.” Her voice was cold and final. The manager froze. “But Miss, I—”“I said enough.” She turned slightly, her eyes finally landing on him. “You’ve said more than enough already.”Her gaze was sharp. “You judged a guest by his clothes.”She paused. “And then you blamed him for your own mistake.”The manager opened his mouth but nothing came out.The crowd watched in silence. The same man who had been arrogant moments ago now looked like a beaten dog.“Please… don’t fire me…” he tried again, his voice lower now.Isabella didn’t respond.Instead, she turned to Alex.“Sir,” she said calmly, “please follow me.”Alex glanced at the manager once. Then away.Indifference.Like the man no longer existe

As Andrew kept shouting for the manager, his voice grew louder, sharper—like he needed the entire street to hear him.“Manager!” he yelled again, pointing at Alex. “Come quick! We have a thief here!”The noise drew more attention immediately and more customers turned.Within seconds, the once elegant boutique turned into a scene of whispers and curiosity.Shortly after footsteps echoed from the back and the manager appeared. His expression was already filled with impatience.“What is going on here?” he asked coldly, scanning the room. Then his eyes landed on Alex. Then the shirt.Andrew stepped forward immediately, almost tripping over himself in his eagerness “Sir, this man is trying to steal.”The word spread through the crowd instantly.“I knew it.”“Look at him.”Andrew pointed at the shirt. “He picked up a Sanchez Maurino t-shirt worth one million dollars. And look at him,” Andrew added, gesturing at Alex’s clothes. “Does he look like he can afford that?”The manager looked Alex

Alex walked out of Gold Crest Bank slowly. His steps were steady. But his mind was not.He looked down at the envelope in his hand. Then at the black card between his fingers.“Eight hundred billion…” he muttered. He stopped walking. Then he said it again, this time slower. “Eight. Hundred. Billion.”He let out a dry chuckle. “So the machine really said that.”He nodded to himself. “Yeah… it did.”He stood there for a moment like a man trying to wake up from a dream.“Which means…” He paused.“I have eight hundred billion dollars.”He shook his head immediately. “Impossible.”His lips curved into a faint smile. “Alex, you’ve been in prison too long. Now you’re hallucinating money.”But the card was still in his hand. The envelope was still real. The memory of the machine’s voice was still clear.“Account balance: Eight hundred billion dollars.”Alex exhaled slowly. “So it’s real.”He started walking again.“But how?” he murmured.“That old man… Victor…”He frowned slightly. “Who gives
