They groveled even harder. Some cried openly, others smashing their heads against the floor until their foreheads slit.

"Please, forgive us master Ethan!"

"We were blind. Foolish."

The same man that they had spat moments ago held their lives dangling on his clenched fist

Terror strangled their cries as they waited for their fate.

Ethan shifted slightly. The Arena froze. Even the air felt heavy and no one dared to move.

"Mercy?" His voice rolled through the hall like thunder, sending cold shivers down the spine of the guards.

"Did you also spare me that when you dragged my name in the mud?" He repeated the words.

Their throats locked with bitter regrets, no words came out.

"How many others have you trampled on just because you thought you could?"

Ethan recalled all the humiliations that he had suffered from the Sinclairs, the daily pain, a whirlwind of emotions flashed through his eyes.

Then, he schooled his looks back into neutrality.

"But I will not sink to your level. My grudges are not so petty."

Relief exploded, exhales rushed through the halls and heads banged on the ground with gratitude.

"Thank you master Ethan. We will forever be grateful!"

"However!" Ethan continued. Their stomachs twisted with agony once again.

"From the way you all humiliated me without knowing who I truly was, it is clear now if you possess the professionalism or the basic EQ required for this project.

This is more than enough reason to disqualify you from the project."

The crowd exploded with despair. But no one dared to say a word.

It was already a miracle that they were already leaving there with their lives intact. They didn't want to push their luck.

But the pain of watching this opportunity slide right through their fingers caused pain to claw into their chest.

Ethan turned to Eva. "What do you think?"

"You're absolutely correct sir." She replied with a voice trembling with respect.

"Leave my sight while you still can!" She barked suddenly, authority cutting through her voice like a whip.

"Master Ethan might have been generous but I could change my mind any second!"

The crowd scrambled like beaten dogs, fleeing with the shattered pieces of their dignity.

Eva turned to leave but Ethan stood by the man who had stood firm earlier. He bowed low, trembling by a little degree.

"Welcome to Tenant sir!" He greeted.

"Not sir..." Eva corrected. Ethan already told her that she could inform the workers with a strict NDA.

"This's our boss from now on. Master Ethan."

The guard's knees almost buckled. His heart hammers as realization hits him. The true boss of Tenant had been standing before him in plain clothes.

Cold sweat drenched him. If he had treated Ethan like the others? He didn't even dare to imagine.

"Thanks for standing for what is right. Even under the sort of pressure that you faced. That's rare."

The guard's bow deepened. "It was nothing sir. Just doing my duty."

"And your hard work is being noticed!" Ethan smiled faintly and shock flashed across the guard's eyes.

"Is there any vacancy at the top security?" Ethan asked.

Eva stepped in at once with a nod "Yes sir Ethan. The chief of security passed away recently and we have been reviewing candidates.

And Mr. Andrio here is among the fifty names that had been shortlisted earlier for the position. He is promising but he has only been with us for two years. The policy requires twenty years of service before consideration!"

Ethan waved the technicalities away, barely listening to her torture in the form of words.

"We already have the right man. Congratulations chief Andrio."

Eva smiled warmly. "Congratulations Andrio!"

Andrio's eyes widened with shock. He still could not believe his ears.

After the position was opened, he could only dream about being CS of the company and yet, his little kindness had made his dream come true.

He collapsed to his knees, gratitude woven into his voice.

"Thank you Master Ethan. I promise to give it my best shot. Thank you Miss Eva!"

Ethan helped him up.

"There's no need to be so theatrical. You've earned this!"

With these words, Ethan and Eva entered the Tenant headquarters and walked into an office. The place gleamed with wealth and power. Beyond anything that Ethan had ever walked into.

"Sir Ethan! Eva asked quietly, hesitation woven into her tone. "Can I ask something... Personal?"

Ethan nodded.

"Why are you still remained to the Kilson family even with the way they treat you?

With your new statues, you could get any woman of your choice. Of power and strength way more beautiful than Miss Kilson!"

Her curiosity startled Ethan. He studied her face deeply before continuing.

"I have my reasons!" He answered simply and Eva instantly accepted his response, not pushing further.

But something relentless arched into her eyes.

Quickly, she shifted to business, pushing her files from the cabin.

"Before you attend the investors meeting, could you please look into the list I had drawn up for the upcoming verge project? It's a major project for the company's future!" Eva added.

However, Ethan didn't seem rather interested.

"Since it's just the early stage, and you know more about the companies, I will trust your judgment..

But just one question. Do you have the Kilsons on that list?"

Eva shook her head strongly. "They did not meet the requirements!"

Ethan's response stunned her. "Add them to the recruitment dinner!"

Eva didn't object! "I will get it done right away!" There was something in her voice that Ethan could not shrug.

"Also, add that this invite should be specially spare headed by Emma, she made the company choose Kilson as one of the people to head the project!" Ethan gave further instructions.

Eva nodded once again without objecting. She brought out her laptop and began typing the mail. Just as Ethan had told her, but at the end, she added.

"Courtsey of Sir Ethan!" She wrote and forwarded the mail before informing Ethan who returned with an acknowledging nudge.

Then, a guard walked in and bowed at Ethan's approval.

"The board of investors are all waiting!" He presented after making his greetings.

Eva's pulse quickened. "We will be right there!" She returned and then turned over to Ethan with reverence.

"Sir Ethan!"

With his eyes wide, and his breath shaky, Paul continued to pant, his grip on the gun getting very slippery. “Who are you?” He muttered, eyes still on Ethan who was still standing right before him, unflustered, and unhurt. Apparently, the bullet missed him by an inch, piercing into the wall behind him. Ethan scoffed, looking him in the eyes. “My name is Ethan, Paul. That’s all you need to know.” He effortlessly grabbed the gun from Paul who was too terrified to drag its possession with him. “I will hold onto this while you unlock the door.” Ethan cleared his throat, turning to face the door to the room where Sabrina said her daughters had been kept. Paul swallowed hard. “I can’t let you take them, Ethan. They are my children.”Ethan growled, his patience speedily drifting away. “You don’t want to know what I can do to you, Paul. Don’t make me say this again. Unlock the door right now or I will be aiming for your head! I won’t miss just like you did!”“Okay! Okay!” Paul succumb

There was no sound, not even the slightest of it.Just silence, and the thoughts that echoed inside his head. There were feelings of caution, but reminded of the reason why he had returned to the mansion, Ethan had to move toward the staircase, seeing the blood all over the floor. He climbed the staircase, and he could still see the blood, prompting him to follow it until he arrived at the doorstep of one of the rooms upstairs. He stood still, leaned closer to the door with his ear, and listened. He couldn’t hear anything, but the blood on the floor indicated that someone could be inside the room. His eyes went down to the handle of the door, and just when he was about to grab it, he noticed the bloodstain on it as well. This made him retrace his steps, and he took a deep breath while staring at the bloody door handle. The chances of Paul being inside the room were

CHAPTER NINETY-ONE Emma groaned, staggering back to her feet. “I am alright.” She managed to break her silence, leaning on the wall to maintain her balance. Then she took a deep breath, turning to Sabrina. “Aunt Sabrina?” She called out, but there was no response. Unable to fight off the feeling that intensely surged into her, she quickly ran to the lady, went down on her knees beside her, and tried to get her to stand. “Aunt Sabrina?!” She called out again, but there was still no response. “Can you hear me?!” She pushed, her breath unsteady. “Get up, Aunt Sabrina! Wake up!” Tears slowly trickled down her face, and when she lowered her ear to Sabrina’s chest, she sighed heavily. “We need to take her to the hospital, Ethan!” She turned to her husband, breathing frantically. Paul shook his head in refusal. “No one is taking her to the hospital! She is not leaving my house! She is my wife!” Ethan growled at him, reminding him that he was with a gun. “That’s not your decisi
