The atmosphere was agog with panicked screams and tense chatter.
Everyone rallied around, trying to figure out what suddenly went wrong with Grandpa Stephen. “What should we do?!” Victoria wailed. “He’s not waking up!” “Let me check on him.” Dr. Bradley requested, ever ready to play the role of a hero. Two minutes ticked by while the Stone family waited for Dr. Bradley’s diagnosis. “Doctor, what is wrong with my father? He was fine barely a minute ago. What happened?” Mr. Stone asked impatiently. “I cannot say for sure but his heartbeat is very weak, almost non-existent. I believe his liver function has failed. Grandpa Stephen will require urgent surgery. Otherwise, his situation will only worsen.” Fear and disappointment gripped the crowd as they listened to the exaggerated diagnosis. Once again, they were back to square one. “First things first. These acupuncture needles will have to go.” Dr. Bradley moved to take out the acupuncture needles but someone stopped him with a heavy hand on his shoulder. He turned around, seething with anger when he saw Dr. Malcolm. “Are we really going to stand here and watch him tamper with the acupuncture needles?” Dr. Malcolm addressed the Stone family. “Did we forget so soon that Asher warned us not to touch those needles? This is wrong!” Dr. Bradley shoved him away, his eyes glinting with annoyance. “I think you’re also forgetting that I’m your superior, Dr. Malcolm. What right do you have to stop me? Besides, who is this Asher guy? What is his expertise? If he’s responsible for this disaster of an acupuncture technique, then I hope you realize that he definitely scammed you! It’s very obvious that he’s an unqualified quack. He ran away, knowing he’d get into trouble.” While the back and forth was in full swing, Victoria was busy trying Asher’s number over and over again. So far, he wasn’t answering. When Asher didn’t pick up the phone after the twentieth call, Mr. Stone knew they would have to consider other alternatives. Time was running out. “Dr. Bradley, I have tremendous trust in your medical prowess. Please do whatever you can to heal my father. Please don’t let him die.” “You can be rest assured that I will do my best!” Dr. Bradley swung into action and immediately took out the acupuncture needles. The next moment, the machines started to beep crazily. That could only mean one thing — Grandpa Stephen's vitals are plummeting! What is going on?!” Mr. Stone inquired. “I hope you know what you’re doing. My father’s health is of utmost importance. Nothing must happen to him!” Dr. Bradley swallowed nervously at the slight hint of threat in Mr. Stone’s voice. Truth be told, he had not expected any of this to happen. He thought Grandpa Stephen’s condition would get better once he got rid of the acupuncture needles. Dr. Bradley tried to remain calm until he made a frightening discovery — the electrocardiograph which monitored grandpa Stephen’s heart suddenly flatlined into a horizontal straight line. His heart has gone into sudden arrest! “What the hell is going on here?!” Asher exclaimed, storming into the ward. “Asher! Oh, thank God you’re here!” The entire family was happy and relieved to see him. Asher hurried towards Grandpa Stephen’s bed. He was appalled to find out that the acupuncture needle had been taken out. Rage shot through his bloodstream. He turned to Dr. Bradley, pouncing on him immediately, “What the hell have you done?! Were you not informed that the acupuncture needles were not supposed to be tampered with?!” Dr. Bradley tried to fight back in order to uphold his reputation. “I did not do anything wrong. I was only trying to help him the best way I could! “Besides, I think you’re a suspect. Stephen’s condition only worsened because you used the acupuncture technique in the first place! You’re nothing but a cheap scammer! I’m sure you plan on running away with the Stone family’s money after doing such a horrible job!” Asher was tempted to whack the doctor across his weathered face, but he decided to ignore him completely. He had bigger fish to fry. Dr. Bradley was shoved to the background as Asher quickly set out mixing a rare medicine called “ The Vitalix.” It was a life saving elixir, powerful enough to bring people back from the brink of death. After feeding Grandpa Stephen the medicine and stabilizing his blood pressure, he inserted the acupuncture needles back into his chest and monitored his heart rate carefully. The entire family looked on, praying fervently that the old man would get better. Finally, after ten seconds of tense silence, Grandpa Stephen’s eyes flew open. He regained full consciousnes! Once again, the ward was agog with sounds of jubilation. “He’s awake! Good Lord, he’s finally awake!!” Overwhelmed with gratitude, Mr. Stone fell at Asher’s feet, “Thank you so much for saving my father. I really appreciate you for this! Whatever you want, name it and it’s yours.” “I don’t think we should celebrate just yet. Thanks to a certain individual, Grandpa Stephen’s recovery is merely partial.” Asher eyed Dr. Bradley angrily. “We still need to find a herb called the Widow’s Salve. It’s a rare herb that can stabilize his heart rate for the rest of life.” Hearing this, Mr. Stone was furious. He pinned Dr. Bradley with a sharp glare, “I thought you claimed to know what you were doing, you bastard?! You only succeeded in making things worse!” Dr. Bradley tried to defend himself but he was not given the chance. Mr. Stone snapped a finger and two bodyguards appeared, armed to the teeth. “Get this good for nothing quack out of my sight immediately!!” He growled, pointing at Dr. Bradley. “And let it be known that my family’s relationship with him ends here. Anyone who sees him in the future has my permission to beat the bastard into a pulp!” Dr. Bradley’s eyes clouded with fear as the bodyguards closed in on him. “Please, listen to me, Mr. Stone! Don’t do something you might regret later…!” Finally, he was carried out of the office kicking and screaming. When he was gone, Mr. Stone addressed Asher; “There’s an exclusive auction being held later today which I plan on attending. Unique items are usually put on sale and there’s a possibility that we might find this rare herb of yours.” He produced a sleek, black invitation card and extended it to Asher; “I’m inviting you to the auction as my special guest…”
