CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT

Lord Clifford sniggered with a vile expression on his face, nodding in confidence while the other man stared at him with curiosity, wondering what he was up to.

“What do you plan on doing?” The Healer asked, seeming a bit wary of how dangerous the councilman was, but all he got was continuous snigger, making him become more nervous even though the intended actions were not meant for him.

“I need you to do what I have asked you to do, Lord Micah. We have a meeting tonight

CHAPTER FORTY-NINE He realized that the replicas of Angus were faster, stronger, and even more handsome than the real person who stood still by the corner of the room, watching as they attacked Marcus fiercely, not eager to leave him until they had cut off his head. Marcus continued to dodge the attempts made by the two replicas swaying their swords at him. He had thought of making use of the dagger, but he couldn’t find a chance to attack any of them with it as they attacked at the same time, as though Angus was controlling them at the same time with his mind. “I have to do something, or I will be dead…” Marcus thought to himself, wary of the fact that the two replicas of Angus were not going to relent in their efforts to kill him. Marcus continued to dodge the swords that were meant to cut him until he unintentionally overlooked the sword of the replica by his right which gave him a cut on his thigh before he was able to get away from it. “What?” Marcus staggered backward, look

CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT Angus looked at the dagger Marcus wielded in his right hand, unable to believe that it could inflict him with so much pain, but on second thought, he remembered that Marcus was more than an ordinary raider, but that wasn’t enough to make him relent. He grunted in pain, cleared his throat, and sighed heavily before taking another step forward toward Marcus who stood still, waiting for him to make the first move. “Come on, Angus. Don’t tell me that you are going to let that small injury make you stop your just cause. Remember that you still want to purge the Kingdom of the King’s chains. You can’t give up now that you are very close to your emancipation.” “That’s enough! Enough, Marcus!” Angus grunted in pain, looking at the injury on his left arm with blood all over it. Angus returned his eyes to Marcus who was looking at him with a taunting smile on his face which made him grunt angrily. “What is it, Angus? Have you suddenly lost your courage? Do you want to

CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN Angus paused for a while, his smirk was intact while he nodded in satisfaction, looking at Marcus who was struggling not to act based on impulse, even though he was visibly angry, and fuming with intense rage. Marcus wanted to say a lot to the middle-aged man standing in front of him, but he had to take a deep breath which he let out slowly before he spoke in a low tone. “You were supposed to protect Awakening society from danger and be a good leader to them, but you chose to be greedy for whatever reason, Angus. You should really be ashamed of yourself.” “Shame?” Angus said with a curious tone, and then he chuckled softly, looking at Marcus who could only imagine how evil he had become “You speak of shame, Marcus? Shame has nothing to do with the greater cause we are fighting for. I was made to believe that you were wise enough to make the right decision, but it’s obvious that you are just a foolish child with a weak mana core that would cause your untimely

CHAPTER FORTY-SIX Seeing that the main they were after had escaped through the back door, Marcus grunted in annoyance, turning to look at the General who didn’t want to admit that he was wrong. “I will go after him. I hope you can handle him.” Lord Stephan decided to make up for his mistake by going after Lord Micah who had fled through the back door. “Well, I guess the old man sees properly even in the darkness,” Marcus said with a smirk while the General ignored him and went after Lord Micah who he wasn’t even certain of his whereabout. Let with Angus who seemed pleased that he was going to be facing him again, Marcus sighed softly, looking at the dagger he was holding in his right hand. “Well, it seems the General has left you at my mercy, Marcus.” Angus sniggered while he marched forward toward Marcus who stood still, looking at him with so much contempt in his eyes. Angus continued moving slowly toward Marcus who looked at the sharp sword he was holding onto, and when he r

CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE “No, Marcus. That way is better. Going to the right would only make us more open to being seen by Lord Clifford whose territory is located toward that direction. I am certain that his spies will inform him of our movement they moment they spot us from afar. “Oh, I understand.” Marcus nodded with a neutral expression on his face while the General maintained his smile. “Let’s go then,” Marcus said after a while of unintended silence, and then he started walking toward the left, getting closer to the General with every step he took. “I think this belongs to you, Marcus.” Lord Stephan said with a whisper, pulling out the dagger he had taken from Marcus not so long before he was taken into the Royal prisons. “Go ahead, take it. I have a feeling that you might need it.” Lord Stephan gestured the dagger toward Marcus, urging him to take it even though Marcus’s expression showed a little uncertainty as he wasn’t sure to make use of the dagger which wasn't his and serve

CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR He kept on looking around while he waited eagerly for the General who was nowhere to be found. His ears were met with the sound of water cascading at a distance not too far away from him, and he could also hear the sound of rustling leaves from the umbrella trees that were planted behind the palace, very close to the gardens that had beautiful flowers that caught his attention. He had never been to the palace before, and he couldn’t stop himself from admiring the beautiful rose flowers that were planted in the garden, alongside the lovely hibiscus that was few, yet enough to evoke a bright reaction on the face of anyone who truly loved nature. “Where is the General?” Marcus whispered after a while, looking around while he searched for the General who still refused to show up, giving him another reason to doubt the little trust he had for him. At that point, Marcus became a bit restless. He knew that he had spent so much time in the palace, longer than expected.
