Another came from the left, swinging a chain to harm him. Jaylen blocked with the  pipe in his hand, and then swept the man’s legs out from under him.

The third thug caught him in a headlock, trying to choke him out. Jaylen rammed backward into the wall, once, twice, until the grip loosened. He broke free, delivering an elbow to the man’s jaw.

They crumpled. The system pulsed red but Node 1’s data was secured.

Jaylen stepped over the groaning bodies while he wiped sweat from his brow. His pulse was hammering, but his focus sharpened.

There were only four more nodes to go.

“Quest Progress: 1/5 Nodes neutralized.

Time Remaining: 70 hours, 13 minutes.”

When he stepped outside, his phone buzzed again, it was another unknown number.

“Round one goes to you,” Drax’s voice purred. “But this isn’t a sprint, Jaylen. It’s a slow bleed. I’ll see you at the next node.”

The line went dead.

Jaylen looked at the system's glowing red map. Every dot on the map felt like a ticking bomb on his career.

He wasn’t just fighting for his name anymore, he was fighting to keep the empire he had built from being erased in a week.

The System flashed one last warning as he walked away.

“Alert: Second Node Location compromised. Enemy reinforcements en route.”

………

…….

The apartment lights were dim except for the blue glow from Jaylen’s triple monitor setup. His fingers drummed against the desk as the System’s holo-interface hovered above the glass surface, pulsing in amber.

“Quest Active: Digital Redemption

Objective: Clear your name. Trace and neutralize Elijah Drax’s smear campaign.

Penalty: Severe reputation drop; loss of pending sponsorships.”

Zee’s voice came through his wireless headset, sharp and focused.

“Jay, I’ve isolated the malware signatures Elijah used. It was a custom encryption, layered in false DNS jumps, this guy’s got no chill. We can’t brute force it.”

Jaylen leaned forward. His eyes narrowed. “We won't brute force it. We will bait it instead.”

Zee chuckled low. “Are you thinking of a honeypot?”

“Not just any honeypot,” Jaylen replied.

The system chimed in, “Activating System Freestyle Mode: Digital Forge.”

Code strings began moving themselves in midair like strands of spiderwebs. “We make him think he is about to ruin me again. Give him something so good he can’t resist… and make sure it carries his ticket straight to prison.”

Two hours later, a new set of files sat inside a secure sandbox on Jaylen’s drive. Each document was system-assisted down to the metadata timestamps and faux insider signatures.

All of them showed offshore accounts, embezzlement trails, and a hidden vault of incriminating celebrity blackmail material.

Only one thing about them was real. And that was a concealed System Tracker Node which was embedded deep in the encryption and coded to follow any unauthorized exfiltration. It also functions by mapping every device in the target’s network.

Jaylen logged into an old burner email tied to his music hustle from years ago. He sent the files to himself from a mock insider account.

Then, using one of Elijah’s public phishing bots, he accidentally left them exposed in a shared folder titled CONFIDENTIAL – For Legal Eyes Only.

Zee whistled over comms. “Are you sure about this? If he sniffs it’s fake, he might vanish before we nail him.”

Jaylen smirked. “You don’t know Elijah like I do. The man can’t resist flexing.”

Six hours later. It’s midnight now.

A soft ping echoed from the System interface.

‘Alert: Unauthorized access detected.

Target: Elijah Drax – IP confirmed.

Status: Files exfiltrated. Tracker active.’

Zee’s voice exploded in Jaylen’s ear. “Bingo! He took it! And yep, he is already uploading it to his deep-web drop points.”

Jaylen’s pulse quickened. “Activate the sweep. Map everything immediately.” He spoke in a hurry.

The System’s display bloomed with interconnected nodes. The IP addresses spanned from abandoned warehouses in Detroit to hidden servers in Bucharest. The tracker trailed everything, unmasking the real control hub.

Jaylen keyed in a secure call to Detective Moreno. He was reluctant but now intrigued by contact from the Cybercrime Division.

“You better not be wasting my time, Jaylen,” Moreno said in a rough voice.

“I’m sending you something,” Jaylen replied, fingers flying. “Full trace of a multi-tiered IP laundering ring. Owner’s name: Elijah Drax. He’s the guy who framed me for that charity scam. If you take this, you will bag half a dozen cyber-felons riding his coattails.”

Many seconds passed. Moreno’s voice returned in a sharper stream. “I am seeing it. This… this is clean. Damn. You’ve been holding out.”

………..

…..

Elijah lounged in his chair. His eyes are bloodshot from hours of typing codes on his system. His lips curled into a predator’s grin as he watched the evidence go viral on underground boards.

“Enjoy obscurity, Jaylen,” he muttered.

Then his secondary monitor flashed with a swarm of pings exploding across his firewall. His grin faltered.

“What the…?” His jaw dropped.

Before he could react, the System’s tracker pushed a live video feed through his webcam. It was Jaylen, leaning toward the camera with a cold dark smile.

“Caught you.” His voice was tender.

Police vans blared sirens into Elijah’s block twenty minutes later. Zee and Jaylen watched through a drone feed as agents swarmed the loft, battering the door off its hinges when he refused to open it. Elijah’s protests were drowned out when the police put the handcuffs in his hand.

“Quest Complete: Digital Redemption.

Reward: +5 Fame, +3 Z-Credit, +1 Influence Badge.

Passive Bonus: “Firewall Instinct” unlocked – automatic 20% defense boost vs. digital attacks.”

Jaylen exhaled slowly, leaning back in his chair. “That’s done.”

Zee’s voice was smug. “Yeah, except… not quite.”

Jaylen’s main screen flickered. A new notification blinked. It was a video uploaded to multiple platforms at once. It was tagged only: FROM E.D.

Jaylen clicked. The feed was old and Elijah’s face was half in the dark. His eyes glinted with manic energy.

“You think this ends with me?” he said in a distorted voice. “You have made enemies you can’t even see. The board’s bigger than you know, Jaylen. And now… they’re looking at you.”

The video cut to black. Jaylen sat still with his jaw tightening.

The System chimed. “New Threat Level Detected.

Origin: Unknown. Multiple data spikes inbound.

Advisory: Prepare for escalation.”

Outside, the press flashes lit the street. It was completely unrelated to Elijah, but a reminder that Jaylen’s public life was now under people watching.

But then, with the expose from the system, he knew something was up.

The message came during a rare quiet moment. Jaylen was reviewing footage for his next drop when Zee’s voice sliced through the air. “Alert: Unverified contact attempting direct approach. Identity, Mia Lennox.” Jaylen froze. “Mia?” He echoed silently. That’s the same woman who had once been a part of his inner circle. She had smiled in his face while selling him out to the highest bidder. The same woman who had watched Roman Vale dismantle his career and walked away without a flicker of guilt. The chat request on his public streaming dashboard was pinned with a single line, “We should talk. I’m on your side now.” Jaylen leaned back in his chair, letting the words hang like smoke in the air. He could almost hear that smooth, calculated charming voice she used to wrap people around her finger. “Zee, run the full packet on her,” he ordered. “Already in motion. Scanning… Flag: Multiple transactions received from Vale-affiliated shell accounts within the last 48 hours. Purpose ta

The next morning, Jaylen woke to the sound of his phone buzzing nonstop. He pulled up from his bed lazily. "Who the hell is disturbing my phone?" He complained. He lifted his hand, picked up his phone. When he checked, he realized it was different notifications from Zee. On it was a video streaming across it's holo-screen.“Public interest spike is +3.2 million mentions in the last twelve hours. Majority sentiment is undecided. Recommended decisive move is to sway the opinion.”The storm Roman Vale had stirred was still raging, but Jaylen wasn’t going to let the man dictate the narrative anymore. This wasn’t just about his reputation, it was about breaking Roman’s chokehold over the industry’s image.Jaylen leaned back in his chair, staring at the glowing interface of Zee’s dashboard.“Alright,” he said quietly, almost to himself. “Let’s take this fight where the people actually listen.” He blinked slowly, different thoughts going through his mind. Zee’s avatar flickered into focus,

Jaylen was riding the high of the exposé’s impact when Zee’s sharp and urgent voice snapped in, “ALERT: Multiple allied media nodes under cyberattack.Source Probability: 96% - ValeStream Corporate Syndicate.”Jaylen’s stomach clenched.“Already?” he muttered, pacing across his loft. Outside, rain hammered the city, casting silver streaks against the tall glass windows. “We barely dropped the documentary 48 hours ago.”Zee’s tone was clinical. “Platforms that hosted or amplified your exposé are experiencing coordinated hacks, DDoS floods, and unexplained server outages. This is a targeted PR blackout.”Jaylen flicked on his wall-mounted holoscreen, cycling through live feeds of independent platforms. A news blog called UrbanPulse displayed nothing but a frozen error page. A YouTube-style channel called StreamTruth was offline entirely. Even a niche hip-hop culture forum that had embedded his documentary showed Account Suspended banners. The pattern was unmistakable. “They're scorche

  • Chapter 40: Face-Off with the Whistleblower

The rain hammered down like nails on the rooftops as Jaylen stepped into the cracked parking lot of an abandoned freight depot. His hood was up. The shadow of the hood covered his face. Subject is highly evasive.”Jaylen’s jaw tightened. “He won’t slip away this time.”The depot doors creaked as he pushed them open. The stench of mold and rust hit him instantly. Inside, a lone figure sat at a folding table, tapping his fingers nervously. Carlis Venn looked exactly like someone who had been running for years. He was gaunt with his eyes darting like a rat in a trap. His hair was a mess under a beanie.“You came alone?” Carlis asked in a sharp and suspicious voice.Jaylen didn’t answer right away.
