Camyre’s POV

The month of the winter solstice, recalling the period in which I had left home, summer had just arrived, how in the world were we in winter, “That can't be possible,” I countered in disbelief, a frown on my face as I shook my head, they all stared at me as though I was insane and didn't know what I was saying.

It really couldn't have been up to six months, that would be ridiculous, I had been under that pile for six months and managed to remain alive.

The bartender didn't have enough patience as other customers entered the tavern and were hailing her to order.

“Wait, wait,” I rushed to say, stopping her in her tracks, a look of disgust present on her face on her face, “I still need that space to stay, anywhere would be alright ma'am, just to get out of the rain for a little while,”

Her eyes scanned me up and down, contemplating whether or not she would let me stay, she arched an eyebrow and I rejoiced in my heart, You can ‘n't have the stables, can’t give you one of the rooms as we might be expecting’ more paying’ customers.

Stables would be fine, I nodded my head in appreciation, showing my deep gratitude. The others in the tavern returned to their beers not minding the ridiculous-looking man who probably spoke jargon.

"Talina, show the bloke to the stables, would ya?" she called out and instructed and a girl who resembled the first came out from behind the curtains, unlike the first, this one had a more jovial expression. They were sisters born of an eclipse.

A smile plastered on her face as she nodded before ushering me out of the tavern. Silence passed over the pub as I walked out and they all glanced at me with confusing looks.

Out of the doors finally, the rain still poured down in heavy droplets and I tried to stop her from going outside, “You can just show me, you didn’t need to bath yourself on my behalf miss,”

The young lady giggled and didn't heed my words before walking under the rain, I stood confused for a few incense before jogging after her.

Talina turned a corner and made her way towards the back, she hummed softly with her flowery dress which fit more of the princess's maids than a tavern owner but now was completely drenched.

She twirled in the rain and it seemed she was having much fun, rather than being worried that she might catch a cold.

We arrived at the stables later than we should have and we were completely drenched. I shivered from the cold and wrapped my hands around my shoulder.

The horses neighed at the intrusion of their privacy and Talina trudged over the hay scattered everywhere and gently placed her hands on the horse’s nozzle and immediately

. He calmed down and so did the others. I was honestly surprised and wondered what she had possibly done. Afterward, she moved over to the lams by the doorpost and lighted them up, spinning on her heels and glancing at me, “You would need new clothes,”

That would make two of us, I wanted to say but she continued, “I would try to have some brought to you later on,” he noted as she drew closer to me, placing her soft hands on my slightly exposed chest, I took a step back away from her and this earned a frown from her but it didn't stop her from going again, “you are so warm,” this time I froze.

Her eyes were a blue color that seemed to glow with the burning sticks, a swirl of different colors. After a while, she retracted her hand and skipped out of the stables. I stood there as confused as ever, they were sisters but we're nothing alike and this one was uncouth.

I fished out the pearls from my clothes and while taking them off laid them on the stack of hay before lying down.

Talina had said I was warm, I should be freezing in this weather but she was right, I did feel warm and my guess was the strange pearl that was in my grip, whatever it was, had done some strange things ever since I had found it. It was beyond my understanding.

It had been six months since I had been buried in the rubble. Thinking about it now, I wondered what my parents had been told at that time. They would have already mourned my supposed death and knew I wasn't coming back. Whatever happens, I need to get back to Holsenberg

Stuffing the pearl down my pants and falling asleep, when I woke back up, it was morning, but besides that, I wondered why two men were standing over me.

They both crackle and stare down at me, that was when I noticed the pearl in one of their grasp. I launched to my feet in a hurry, “Give that back, that isn’t yours sir,” I glanced between them as I demanded.

Once again going into a feet of chuckles, “This would sell for a heavy price in the market, what do you think Kam?” the more rounded and short man asked his accomplice who smiled and nodded and agreed. I realized they had been part of the crowd in the tavern at the time and must have seen the pearl.

“You cannot sell what does not belong to you and hand that back,” I was pissed that they would have searched my bodice just so they could find the pearl which only pissed me off the most.

They didn't bother with me as they made their way out of the stables but I wasn't letting them get away, normally I would, but for some reason, I couldn't let the pearl go that easily, the rage soared in my heart as I watched as they discussed the price they would bargain for.

Thieves, hoodlums, “Give that back, now.” I barked out, stopping them in their tracks as they spun around in disbelief and gazed at me with ridicule, “or what?” the rounded and brief man questioned as he mocked me.

Our little scene seemed to be drawing the attention of the others who had just woken up as well and they all watched in anticipation.

I might not have been the best fighter, but that wouldn't stop me from attacking, which I did, grabbing the fat man's hands and struggling to take the pearl away from him, at the same time, Kam began to pull at me and threw his fist across my face rather hard.

I let go of the man's hands and took a step back from the impact, my teeth gritted against each other and I bawled my fist beside me, they didn't think I had enough as they both ganged up against me, throwing punches and kicks but I managed to evade a few of them until I couldn't take it anymore, yelling rather loudly feeling a strange emotion well up inside of me, throwing a punch of my own and sending the rounded man flying and his back collided with the tree trunk.

By the saints, I had barely even grazed the man.

“Ron,” Kam called out and went over to make sure his friend was okay. Ron, groaning in pain, struggled before he was helped back up on his feet. They both stared at me and Ron stuttered in horror, “You……you have magic!”

  • THE TRAITOR WALKS FREE

CHAPTER 27Llerona's POV.I walked around the village square and enquired about the whereabouts of my second in command and the others, if they made it to the village alive and if anyone had spotted them in the crowd. It wasn't hard to spot the house Valcereon; the distinct sigil of the soaring eagle on their capes and breastplates stood out like a sore thumb. However, the villagers that I questioned all shook their heads disappointedly. That was until I went to the garrison, and luckily they had spotted at least three of my soldiers.“They had entered the city, and we had housed them at one of our inns. They had so much hope that Milady would show up,” the captain responded. The captain of the garrison, Finch Drevyn, was familiar with House Valcereon, and I was not surprised that he had offered them help. However, it did irk me in the manner in which he addressed me, but I pushed it to the back of my mind.“Just three of them?” I enquired, although our number has dwindled s

Where are the others?” My brows knitted in confusion as I watched both of them who remained. When I moved to take another step forward, not only did LLeron take a step backward, but so did Rodryce, and I searched my memory to find out what had truly happened, but all I could remember was me lying down and going to sleep.“Are you lots okay?” I didn't make any attempts to approach them again because they would only step further back away from me. “You look like you've seen a ghost.”In my own words, the thought of the cysts came to my mind, and I thought they were around, causing me to swerve frantically and search the surroundings. The only thing I could notice was the burning tree in the distance. “Wait, were we attacked?” Both of them barely responded, but at least they weren't taking cautious steps away from me. “We need to get going

  • FEAR MADE FLESH

CHAPTER 25Llerona's POV.I woke the others up as I stared at the monster that currently had its hands sticking into Camyre's chest. They prepared for battle, but we needed to be careful, or else we may end up losing the prisoner.“Flank me; there's more out there. I can feel it.” I sensed the magic coursing in the air; it was terrifying. “We won't be able to fight them all off,” I whispered to my second in command, Halrix.Halrix drew his sword. “We run?”“Yes.” That was the only real chance we had of getting out alive. As for Camyre, they looked as though they were in some sort of trance, completely motionless with a blank, almost lifeless expression. It was dark, so I couldn’t make much out, but that much was clear.I turned to Rodryce, who had come to as well. “Well? Are you going to save your partner or just stand there?” I asked, irritation prickling in my tone.I’d never really seen Sir Rodryce as a good man — but that was a personal judgement. He didn’t respond. • A TRAITOR OR IS IT?

Chapter 24Camyre:It's been a week or so, and we had been travelling for miles. I always knew the capital was a distance away, so I wasn't that bothered; it gave me a little time to think about what was to come. Was I truly going to be executed? On the basis that I chanced on these strange powers, and now I was declared an imposter, a traitor to the crown. An heir? Subconsciously, I touched the orb lodged into my chest; sometimes I forget that it's there, like it has become one with me.It didn't jolt loads of electricity like it did the first time; however, the energy within it was soft, like a gentle tide crashing against the seaside. The orb was the reason for my powers, and it seems like a fleeting memory since I got them.Llerona halted the group and announced that we would be camping in the woods tonight. We had exited the last village not quite long ago, and so we did not have much of a choice.I couldn't help but stare at her as she climbed down from her white horse, her mov

  • THE COAST OF GOOD INTENTIONS

CHAPTER 23Camyre: The energy stirred gently about my arm as I lowered myself to one knee, pressing my hands into the muddied earth. I let the magic course through me, down into the soil. In the blink of an eye, the plants began to bloom, sprouting back to life with verdant force. There came a few gasps and murmurs of awe behind me, perhaps even a shout of praise or two, but I paid them no mind. My focus remained on the flow of magic.I could scarcely believe I was managing such a feat. The energy continued to spread, restoring life to all it touched. Yet with every inch it covered, I felt myself grow weaker—my limbs heavy, my vision hazy. Fatigue pulled at my muscles, and my breaths grew shallow.Still, I pressed on a little longer, until at last I was forced to pause. The village chiefs burst into applause, their smiles wide and gleaming with gratitude as they beheld their fields reborn. “I’m happy to be of service,” I murmured, my smile firm despite the weight dragging at my bones
