"Hey! Don't run! Eddie!"
Jennifer's shout made Eddie accelerate his pace even more, bumping into several pedestrians along the way.
"Darn it! Instead of stopping, he's running even faster! Argh!" Jennifer looked frustrated, sweat dripping down her forehead, causing her to stop her chase.
Jennifer's plan to stop Eddie immediately clicked when she saw a police car parked not far from where she stood. A wide grin spread across her face as she wiped the sweat from her forehead and approached the young officer writing something near the car's door.
"Hello, Officer, please help me!" Jennifer put on a panicked expression as she approached the young officer.
The police officer turned, and the young man with a thin mustache nodded slightly. "Yes, Lady, what's the matter?"
"I need your help, I was just harassed by a man running over there, he tried to grab my breast and I couldn't chase him! He ran in that direction, and I remember his face vividly!"
Jennifer's convincing act made the officer believe her and he quickly responded. "Let's go, get into the car, and we'll catch that jerk!"
Jennifer and the young officer got into the car immediately. Jennifer's heart was satisfied as she successfully deceived the officer with her act. The not-so-far distance made Eddie visible within a short time.
"There he is! The guy in the white shirt! His name is Eddie! Come on, call him with the megaphone!" Jennifer pointed towards Eddie, who was still running.
The young officer grabbed the megaphone and started shouting Eddie's name. "Eddie! Stop or I'll shoot!"
A thin smirk appeared on Jennifer's face as Eddie, panicked, looked towards the police car, especially when it pulled up beside him. Eddie immediately halted his steps and raised his hands.
"Don't move! You're under arrest!" The young officer got out of the car, handcuffs ready to be placed on Eddie's hands.
Eddie looked bewildered. He was about to ask what was happening, but catching sight of Jennifer waving at him from inside the car made him understand that all of this was Jennifer's doing.
"Officer, take us to the nearest station, I want to sort this out with him!" Jennifer exclaimed angrily, glancing at Eddie.
Eddie couldn't react. He knew that if he voiced his opinion, things would get worse. The best course of action was to let Jennifer play out her drama.
"No need for the station, we'll take him directly to the central police station for further processing. What he did to you was terrible; let me land a few punches on his face first. I hate stupid men who can't control themselves around women!" The young officer punched the steering wheel, and his expression was enough to panic Jennifer. The beautiful woman swallowed hard and quickly shook her head. "No, officer! That's not what I want! He's my ex-boyfriend, and he's also the father of my child! So, it's complicated, that's why I want you to take us to your guard post, I just want to talk to him about important matters and... and find out the motive behind what he did to me!"
The young officer glanced at Jennifer, raising an eyebrow. "Damn, you didn't tell me this was so personal."
"Then what do you mean? Do you want to let me be harassed by this crazy man who's running like an idiot?" Jennifer pointed at Eddie, narrowing her eyes.
Eddie looked angry and could only give a sharp look. His cuffed hands couldn't make him exit the slowly moving car. Eddie's only hope was that the guard post would appear soon, and he could hear what Jennifer wanted.
The young officer looked annoyed at Jennifer's expression. In his heart, he was quite sure that this was just a misunderstanding between a couple struggling to cope with a breakup.
The guard post they were heading to came into view, not far from where Eddie was apprehended. The young officer still looked cynical as the car parked in front of the small white building.
"I hope you really can resolve what happened, don't blame that man again. I pity his face."
"What? Why do you suddenly assume I'm a liar?! Is this how a police officer should be, making false accusations?" Jennifer snapped.
"Come on, you're not the first person to use this car just to chase your partner or whoever it is having trouble with something. I'm just too naive and foolish to help people like you. Get out, anyway, resolve everything wisely and avoid any arguments."
The young officer got out of the car, and Jennifer immediately gave Eddie a look. "It's all because of you!"
Eddie's side door opened, and the young officer immediately pulled Eddie's arm. "Women are hard to understand, but one thing's for sure, were you really running because you touched her chest?"
"You can check my name in the city's detainees, is there any special reason for someone who just got out of prison to deal with the police again?" Eddie retorted.
Jennifer accidentally heard that sentence and quickly pulled Eddie's arm. "Come on! We shouldn't keep this young officer waiting any longer."
Jennifer led Eddie into the small building, which happened to be deserted, allowing Jennifer to choose any empty room near the entrance.
"Hey! Don't just barge into any room! You rude person, do you want to be arrested?" the young officer scolded.
"I'm sorry, okay? Let's not complicate things further; you can enter that room and let us talk here," Jennifer retorted loudly. "And you! I remind you not to trouble me like this! Do you know how much loss I've suffered today?! My nails are ruined! My hair is a mess, and my face, which just got a treatment worth hundreds of dollars, had to endure the sunlight!"
Jennifer's outburst made the young officer shake his head and enter the room Jennifer intended to enter.
"Well, what do you want to say? Do you realize how terrifying your way of finding me was? I just tasted freedom, and you casually deliver something I never even thought would happen. If this is a joke, then you're truly cruel, and I won't stay silent."
Jennifer smirked. "Well, it's up to you. Don't act so high and mighty; after all, you're just a former convict. Don't talk too much; the point is you have to come with me so you can understand who you really are. Don't resist and don't act on your own. I have my own interests, and so do you! So, if you want this to end, just follow what I want!"
"How do I know this isn't a trap? Maybe you're Frank's henchman who's unhappy because I'm free today, right?"
Eddie's question made Jennifer narrow her eyes. "What the heck! You are just like your father, stubborn and always thinking he knows best."
"I don't want to hear anything you have to say, okay?! You might be looking for another Eddie, don't you know there are plenty of people living in this city? And the name Eddie isn't unique to just me; there are even dozens of other Eddies in prison! My advice is, you go back to jail and call out each Eddie and match them with the story you just told!"
"Do you think I'm a fool who doesn't understand what I'm looking for
? Just so you know, finding you took a long time, I had to struggle through traffic and visit the prison. Come on, show a little respect to me, even though we have different mothers, you're still my brother," said Jennifer, taking out a photo from his pants pocket and handing it to Eddie. "See? You know who is this woman?"
Eddie's steps halted again when he saw a photo showing two people posing in front of a sea, embracing each other. The woman in the photo was none other than Eddie's mother.
"Where did you get this photo?!" Eddie asked, snatching the photo quickly.
"Your ears must be deaf. I've told you we come from the same father, only different mothers. This is a photo of when your mother and father were dating, perhaps before you were born into this cruel world. I won't waste my time chasing the wrong person; I know who you are now, and your only task is to come with me. Don't let my beautiful nails end up in your face!"
Jennifer then took out her phone and called her private driver who was still near the convenience store where she found Eddie earlier, to inform them of their whereabouts.
"Alright, I'll come with you and try to listen to what you want to say. And for this photo, I'll keep it." said Eddie.
"Yeah, it's up to you. I don't really care, I just want to show you what Jehemian has left for us, especially you as his favorite son."

“Eddie, you need to think this through,” his secretary, Lisa, urged as she shuffled through papers on his desk. “Keeping your distance from Agatha might not be the best strategy right now.”Eddie leaned back in his chair, rubbing his temples. “You don’t understand. I can’t afford to get too close to her, not after everything that’s happened.”“Look, I get it. But you’ve already agreed to help her with her family’s company. If you cut ties now, it’ll look suspicious,” Lisa replied, raising an eyebrow.Eddie sighed heavily. “It was a mistake to agree to that in the first place. I should have never involved myself in her family’s business.”“Eddie, this is a complicated situation. You know Agatha needs your support,” Lisa pressed, her voice steady. “She’s promised to start fresh, to make this work. You can’t just back out.”“Her promises don’t mean anything if it jeopardizes my own company,” Eddie countered, his voice rising slightly. “I have to think about my future, my business. I can’

“Eddie!” Jennifer called out as she stepped into the house, her heart racing.Eddie emerged from the kitchen, looking worn out and a little worried. “You’re back! How was your trip?”“It was beautiful, but… we need to talk,” Jennifer said, struggling to keep her voice steady.“Talk about what?” Eddie asked, leaning against the kitchen counter, sensing the tension in the air.“Andrew… he wants to marry me,” Jennifer blurted out, the words escaping before she could rein them in.Eddie’s brow furrowed. “What? You’ve got to be kidding me. You just got back from a vacation! Why would you even consider that?”“I know it sounds crazy, but he’s serious. He wants me to leave everything and be with him,” she replied, panic rising in her chest.“Leave everything? Jennifer, are you really thinking about this? What about us?” Eddie’s voice rose slightly, betraying his frustration.“I’m not saying I will! I just… I need time to figure things out,” she stammered, trying to make sense of her feelings.

Eddie leaned back in his chair, staring out the window as he waited for Agatha to arrive. The morning sun filtered through the glass, casting shadows across his desk, but the warmth offered little comfort. His mind raced with possibilities, scenarios of how this confrontation would play out. He could almost hear the tension humming in the air, a warning that things were about to get messy. When Agatha finally entered, she was all business, her heels clicking sharply against the hardwood floor. Her expression was calm, but Eddie noticed a flicker of something in her eyes—nervousness, perhaps, or anticipation.“Eddie,” she greeted, her tone cool. “You wanted to see me?”“Have a seat,” he replied, gesturing to the chair across from him. He needed to maintain control, to keep the upper hand in this conversation.Agatha sat down, her posture elegant, but there was a slight tension in her shoulders. “What’s this about?”“Let’s not pretend, Agatha. You know exactly why I wanted to talk to yo

"Eddie, calm down. You're jumping to conclusions." Agatha’s voice was smooth, too smooth for Eddie’s liking. She sat across from him, legs crossed, sipping her tea as if the world wasn’t on fire.Eddie clenched his fists, barely able to control his rising anger. His office felt smaller, suffocating, as if the walls were closing in on him. “Calm down? Agatha, one of my subsidiaries just got shut down for a violation, and it happens to be the one your man, Charles, oversees. You expect me to believe that’s just a coincidence?”Agatha didn’t even flinch. She set her cup down delicately, her sharp eyes meeting his. “I understand your frustration, Eddie. But accusing me without evidence won’t solve your problem. Charles has been nothing but loyal, and whatever happened at that company was not my doing. You’re letting your emotions cloud your judgment.”Eddie’s jaw tightened. “You think this is about emotions? Agatha, I’ve been in this business long enough to know when something stinks. I j

"Jennifer, you need a break. We've both been working nonstop, and honestly, I think a vacation would do us both some good." Andrew's voice was steady but held a hint of concern as they sat across from each other in the quiet corner of a café.Jennifer stirred her coffee absentmindedly, her mind elsewhere. "I don’t know if I’m ready to go anywhere, Andrew. There’s too much going on, and I can’t just leave. Especially with everything at the office." She sighed, the weight of Frank's death still lingering in her voice, even though she had started to heal.Andrew leaned forward, his eyes locking onto hers. "You can't keep burying yourself in work, Jen. It's not healthy. You’ve been carrying a lot on your shoulders, and I get it. But you need to take care of yourself too. Just a few days away. Let’s go somewhere quiet, where you don’t have to think about business or Frank for a while."Jennifer hesitated, chewing her lip. She knew Andrew was right, but the thought of leaving everything beh

“Grace, I need to know exactly what’s going on,” Eddie demanded, pacing around his office. His voice was sharp, filled with frustration. “We can’t afford any more surprises, and this Wilford situation has already cost us enough.”Grace, sitting calmly across from him, nodded. “I understand, Mr. Cameron. I’ve already started pulling reports from the other subsidiaries. But, honestly, I think we need to have a bigger conversation about oversight. This isn’t just about Wilford anymore.”Eddie stopped pacing and turned to face her. “What do you mean?”She handed him a folder. “I’ve been digging, and there are minor discrepancies in a few other subsidiaries as well. It’s not at the level of Wilford, but it’s enough to raise concerns.”Eddie flipped through the documents, his brow furrowing deeper with each page. “How did this happen under my watch? I had systems in place, checks and balances—how did we miss all of this?”Grace gave him a sympathetic look. “Honestly, I think the company has
