Sensing a massive surge of energy aimed directly at him, Fang Yun leapt aside, narrowly dodging the strike.

BOOOOM!

A deafening explosion echoed through the crater, shaking the mountain to its core. A massive pit formed where he had stood moments earlier, thick smoke and dust billowing into the air, obscuring everything in sight. Fang Yun exhaled in relief—he had barely escaped that one.

But his relief lasted only a heartbeat. A second wave of attacks came rushing toward him, faster and stronger than before. Explosions erupted in rapid succession, carving enormous holes in the ground all around him.

“Wait, Earth Dragon! Please stop! I didn’t mean to disturb you!” Fang Yun shouted desperately, hoping the creature would listen.

Before he could even finish his words, a blinding beam of light shot straight toward him. It was too fast—he couldn’t dodge.

He crossed his arms, summoning both of his elemental shields at once — the Flame Shield and the Sacred Water Shield — to absorb the impact

“What other duty? Isn’t your task here simply to take the Fire Sword and defeat the Dark King?” Wan Fenli frowned.Fang Yun glanced at Mei Hwa for a moment before answering Wan Fenli’s question.“First, I will help Mei Hwa reclaim her father’s throne, which was seized by Emperor Yan Yuan, Elder. Perhaps you already know about that incident,” Fang Yun said.Wan Fenli nodded. “So you are the daughter of Emperor Feng Yu?”“That is correct, Elder. Right now my brother is gathering forces to take back the throne Emperor Yan Yuan stole,” Mei Hwa replied softly.“Tomorrow I want to see how well you command the Heavenly Sword,” Wan Fenli said. “For now, rest.”The three young people bowed their heads in agreement. The next morning they left the lodge. The Heavenly Sword Sect was already buzzing with its usual activity—disciples going about their training and duties. The three were slightly surprised. Although the sect sat high on the mountain, it had a considerable number of disciples—and the

Fang Yun’s feelings were right. Two women moved swiftly through the forest along the slopes of Mount Gobi. Their speed was so great that it seemed their feet never touched the ground.Fang Yun, Mei Hwa, and Zhao Wen had prepared themselves for any possible situation. If anyone tried to stop them from climbing the mountain—just like what had happened before—then battle would be their last resort.“Be ready!” Fang Yun warned as the two women drew near.Moments later, the two women, who appeared to be in their thirties, stopped before them.“Are you two here to prevent us from climbing this mountain?” Mei Hwa asked coldly.“Please, don’t misunderstand. We came to welcome you,” one of the women replied gently.“I am Lin Yin, and this is Xiu Lie. We were sent by Master Wan to escort you,” said Lin Yin.Fang Yun and his companions exchanged glances. “How could she possibly know that we were coming? We’ve never been here before,” he asked.“Master Wan will explain that herself. I don’t know

  • Plan to Strike the Enemy’s Stronghold

“Advisor Li, if we allow this to continue, they’ll win the sympathy of the people. In time, the citizens themselves will rise in rebellion.” Emperor Yan Yuan’s face darkened with frustration toward his advisor, Li Feng. He felt that his minister was underestimating the threat posed by Prince Xiao Yu’s insurrection.“Your Majesty,” Li Feng replied confidently, “our empire commands vast armies and superior weaponry. I’m certain the common people wouldn’t dare rebel against you.”“What concerns me,” he continued, lowering his tone, “is if Prince Xiao Yu and his supporters manage to sway the soldiers the way they recently did.”“So what do you suggest I do?”Li Feng smiled faintly. “Your Majesty need not trouble yourself. Allow me to deal with this matter personally.”That night, Prince Xiao Yu decided to lead his few hundred men to Lin Xai’s large estate. It was the most strategic and nearby refuge available. The village surrounding Lin Xai’s residence was one of the key strongholds of h

  • Trapping the Traitors

Fang Yun merely smiled faintly and said nothing in response to Wang Dong’s question.“Why did you tell them our base was beyond the mountain?” Wang Dong pressed.“I’ve already told you—just wait and see. You’ll understand when my plan unfolds.” Fang Yun’s lips curled into a mysterious grin as he gestured toward two horses tied farther away from the rest of the herd.“Those horses hold the key,” he murmured, then lay down on the grass, folding his hands beneath his head as a pillow.“I still don’t understand what you’re planning,” Wang Dong said after a long pause, still trying to piece together Fang Yun’s scheme.“Enough for tonight. The night grows darker—let’s rest,” Fang Yun replied, closing his eyes.Wang Dong frowned, clearly unsatisfied with the vague response, but he said nothing more. With a weary sigh, he too lay beside Fang Yun and eventually drifted into sleep. As midnight approached, two soldiers quietly rose from their slumber. Their eyes darted toward Fang Yun and Wang D

  • Reinforcements Gained

Fang Yun smiled faintly, watching the fear that painted the faces of the soldiers before him. He did not immediately strike; instead, he allowed the dark aura surrounding him to seep into the air, pressing upon their spirits with invisible weight. The soldiers exchanged uneasy glances. Though no words were spoken, their eyes communicated what their trembling lips could not.“Do you know the sin you’ve committed?” Fang Yun asked softly, his voice calm yet cutting. He drew the black flames that danced around him back into his body and stepped closer to them.Seven paces away, he stopped. “You’ve sworn loyalty to an emperor who murdered his own brother—driven by ambition so foul it has corrupted his very soul.”One soldier, gathering what little courage remained, stepped forward and said, “But we are mere soldiers, my lord. We can do nothing. We are bound by the oaths we took when we first donned the armor.”“An oath of loyalty… to a rightful emperor?”“Yes, my lord. That is the oath we

  • Massacre

Fang Yun and Wang Dong turned towards the soldiers who were almost 40 meters behind them."How did they know we were in this city?" Wang Dong asked."I don't know. But for sure, I have to wet my hands with blood again," Fang Yun replied, dismounting from his horse. He slightly regretted giving a soldier a chance to live yesterday. His initial intention was to give a warning, but he forgot that the Yuan Dynasty had a number of soldiers that could not be underestimated. In mainland China, the imperial forces of the Yuan Dynasty ranked 3rd in strength, behind the Tang and Han Dynasties. And a force of 500,000 soldiers was certainly not a trivial number."Surrender peacefully, or we will use force!" shouted the leading soldier who had just arrived. The number of dozens of soldiers gradually increased as other soldiers joined and began to surround Fang Yun.The visitors to the eatery did not dare to come out. They only huddled inside and looked out through the doors or windows. Likewise, t
