“Are you really leaving, sir?” Tasha worriedly asked as she followed behind Max who had a triumphant smile on his lips.

He'd managed to clear his name, ensuring that his regression was not in vain.

"Sir!” Tasha called out again, jolting him from his thoughts.

“Hmm, ah, yes, I am.” Max casually replied. “Is there a reason not to?”

“But why?... Everyone loves you and it's because of you that this company has grown so much.”

Max sighed. “I wish I could stay, but I can't.”

“It's all because of me, right?” Tasha quickly turned teary-eyed. “If only I'd come clean sooner."

“Tasha, it's fine, I don't blame you for anything,” Max said as he touched her shoulder. “This was bound to happen sooner or later. So it's best to leave now.”

“But… What about me?” Tasha softly asked. "Once you leave, there's no way Miss Cavendish would let me stay."

“Well, you can come with me as well.”

“I can?... You plan on starting your own company?”

“Something like that,” Max replied, a knowing smile at the corners of his lips.

“That's great,” Tasha remarked in visible excitement. “I'll clear out my office.”

Max couldn't even say anything as she quickly left, only able to let out an amused chuckle before heading to his desk to pick up his belongings.

Naturally, this didn't go unnoticed as other employees began to murmur.

“What's going on?”

“First, a meeting, now Max is packing up?... What's going on?”

“Do you think they fired him?”

“There's no way they would do that, right?”

“He is an important part of this company. If not for him, we wouldn't be where we are today.”

“Agreed.”

Max didn't bother explaining things as there was no need.

Just then, silence followed and Max immediately felt a cold gaze boring into his back.

He paused. “Can I help you?”

“You are making a huge mistake, you know that, right?”

He turned back to find Mirabel staring daggers at him.

It was easy to think she was angry because he was leaving but that was far from the truth.

“I doubt.”

“No other company will hire you, I can promise you that.”

“That's fine.”

“And I hear it's very hard to get loans nowadays.”

“That's fine as well.”

Mirabel's frown deepened. “You've changed.”

"Yes." Max coldly said. "I have."

Then, he picked up a brown box filled with his things and left with Tasha hurrying to follow him.

The moment he left, a tangible silence remained accompanied by a void that wouldn't be easy to fill up.

Max sent Tasha home while he headed to the Cavendish house to pack up.

When he'd said he was resigning, he didn't just mean from the company.

He was resigning from the Cavendish family completely.

It was time to head back to everything he'd abandoned.

He drove an old vintage black Toyota to the Cavendish villa.

He found Belinda, Mirabel's cousin, seated in the pool area.

“Oh wow, if it isn't the worst mistake Mirabel made. Shouldn't you be in police custody?” Belinda asked, her tone filled with mockery.

Max wasn't surprised, after all, the plan to frame him wasn't just Mirabel and Bernard.

No, it was the Cavendish and Darrow family that were behind it.

They had wanted to use his name to commit insurance fraud, allowing them to live in wealth while he languished in a cell.

“And why is that?” Max decided to entertain the spoiled brat.

Belinda snorted. “Don't think I don't know what you did. Can't believe after everything we've done for you, you would dare to do something so despicable. Well, I guess I shouldn't be surprised, you've always struck me as a thief.”

Max said nothing more, merely smirking before heading to the guest house to pack up.

Later that evening, Mirabel returned home with Bernard with the Cavendish family hosting the Darrow scion like royalty.

Soon, Bernard was prepared to take his leave in a much better mood compared to earlier in the day only for Max to make an appearance.

“Trash, what are you doing here?... Haven't I told you not to show your face around me!” Mirabel's mother, Natasha, questioned harshly.

Not only she but everyone present regarded Max with such deep contempt that it was a miracle they hadn't tried to kill him before now.

That was just how much they despised him.

The only reason they hadn't kicked him out was because of Mirabel's grandfather, Lucas, and unfortunately, the old man was currently sick and receiving treatment abroad, hence the reason he couldn't come to his aid.

“My apologies for ruining the happy occasion, but I needed to give Mirabel this.” As he spoke, Max took out a document and handed it over to Mirabel who took it with a frown.

“What is it?”

“Divorce papers.”

Fine then, I would like to see how this goes.”“I will not let you have your way, Mr. Augustus!... I will ruin you and Rosario!” Carlos warned but Max chuckled in response.“Please, go ahead. I'd love to see you try.”Carlos clenched his jaw, clearly not expecting Max to act so boldly. He'd always been accorded respect as he was not only a stockbroker but a prominent Mafia boss, yet for a young man who hadn't even grown a beard to act so casually before him.It was utter disrespect! He trembled in dissatisfaction as he turned to leave, with Arturo rising to his feet to do the same, only for Max to call out to him. “I hope you have robust savings,” Max remarke

There, they found Arturo and his father, Carlos, waiting on Max with bated breath.“Well, well, if it isn't the biggest stockbroker in Westbrook.” Max mocked as the Sanchez father and son duo rose to receive him.“How may I help you today?” As he spoke, he took his seat at the head of the table with Brittany coming to stand beside him.Clearing his throat, Carlos spoke up. “Mr. Augustus, firstly, I would like to congratulate you on becoming Rosario's CEO, it is truly a great position.”“Indeed, it is. It's not like I haven't tried my best, it's just that the recession really hit the hotel hard. But if you don't believe me, I'd be more than happy to tender my resignation. I'll tender my resignation tomorrow.”“Unless, you think me a fool, you wouldn't say such rubbish.”“Sir?”Just then, Max's guards rushed into the restaurant and surrounded the group with one approaching wit
