Chapter 001

Sparkling lights and candlelight decorated a proposal event tonight. Red roses spread to all corners of the venue, which was held outdoors. The sound of classical music from famous musicians in the city made the atmosphere very romantic, even before the event started.

A man wearing a white shirt and black trousers looked around him in amazement. As seen from his clothes, he was not someone important but just a part-time worker.

“Today is my second wedding anniversary with Rachel. If I had a lot of money, I would definitely be able to hold a luxurious celebration like this," said Arnold. He took a deep breath as he reached into his trouser pocket and found 30 dollars in cash.

Arnold smiled, looking at the money. At least tonight, he could bring Rachel a cake to celebrate their wedding anniversary.

“Hey, you! Don't stay silent like a fool; quickly move those things!” The yell of a hotel manager distracted the man's attention.

Arnold turned to the manager, and he nodded. "Okay sir." He rushed to carry out his duties to move the boxes of equipment used to decorate the event to the warehouse with other workers.

Even though he often received bad treatment and insults from people in higher positions, Arnold tried to remain patient. He had no other choice because he had to work to support himself. This had become normal for Arnold, and he tried to ignore it.

After finishing moving the items, Arnold returned to the event venue. The number of people who wanted to watch the proposal event was increasing. Who wasn't curious about this event?

The only son of the founder of The Galvoir Group, which was one of the ten biggest companies in the country, was the main character of the event.

“I really wonder who the lucky woman Victor Galvoir will propose to.”

“Could it be that she is very beautiful?”

“I think someone like Victor Galvoir is surrounded by a lot of women. But why did he choose to propose to this woman?”

“He is very rich. He is the man every woman dreams of.”

People could be heard continuing to talk about Victor Galvoir. Almost everyone in the city knew about this man, including Arnold.

Arnold remembered that when he worked as a delivery boy, he often got orders from Victor.

Arnold had delivered goods for Victor more than five times and saw that the man was always with a different woman each time.

"I'm curious, who is the woman the man will propose to? He's a playboy," Arnold muttered.

The voices of people chatting suddenly fell silent, and all eyes were focused on a Ferrari that had just arrived there. Behind the Ferrari, there were several luxury cars following it, containing Victor's bodyguards.

The driver of the Ferrari got out and opened the door for his master. Victor Galvoir got out of the car holding the hand of a beautiful woman who was blindfolded.

“Baby, where are we going? I can't see anything," asked the woman, touching her blindfold.

Victor smiled as he kissed her hand. "I promise that tonight is a night you will never forget in your entire life."

Arnold was standing behind the crowd of people. He couldn't see Victor and his beautiful lady clearly.

“Wow, she is so gorgeous! No wonder Victor loves her.”

“I wish I could be her, showering with wealth.”

“I'm sure her friends will get jealous of her.”

Victor and his lady walked closer toward the center of the venue. He directed the woman to enter the circle of heart-shaped roses.

Arnold frowned. He felt familiar with Victor's lover. With her height, posture, hair, and body shape, Arnold had seen someone he knew exactly like that.

"What am I thinking, or does she just look like Rachel?" Arnold muttered while rubbing his head. “Or maybe I missed Rachel so much that I saw another woman instead?” Arnold chuckled to himself.

Victor took the box ring from his pocket and knelt before his lady. Victor's bodyguard removed the woman's blindfold, and everyone cheered.

"Will you marry me, Rachel?"

“Say yes! Say yes!”

“You two are the cutest!”

Arnold also reacted to seeing this romantic scene, but he did not cheer happily. He was so shocked that even his world felt like it stopped spinning that very second. Arnold's body trembled, and he almost couldn't believe what he was seeing.

“Rachel! Why is she here? What is she doing with that playboy?” exclaimed Arnold in a trembling voice.

Rachel's eyes were sparkling with happiness as she looked at Victor. “Victor, you make me the happiest woman tonight.”

“So, what answer do you give me?” Victor's voice sounded so gentle.

"Yes, I want to marry you!"

The sound of applause echoed through the sky tonight, drowning out Arnold's screams.

“Give me a way!”

"Excuse me!"

Arnold pushed his body through the crowd to get into the venue. He ran to the middle of the venue and stopped them before Victor put the ring on Rachel's finger.

“Rachel, stop!” shouted Arnold.

Everyone was shocked to see Arnold's audacity and started booing him.

“What is that loser doing there?”

“He is really presumptuous! Who does he think he is?”

Rachel was surprised to see Arnold's presence there. She looked at Arnold and Victor alternately. She knew that Arnold was working part-time tonight, but she didn't expect Leon to be working at this hotel.

“Do you know this useless waiter? How dare he stop my proposal?" Victor asked irritably.

“Hmm.” Rachel looked confused about how to answer.

Arnold pulled Rachel's hand away from Victor. He held his wife's shoulder while looking into her eyes closely. There was disappointment in his eyes, but Arnold wanted to hear Rachel's explanation first.

“Rachel, tell me, what are you doing here? Why does he want to propose to you?” Arnold asked.

"Arnold, I thought you didn't work at this hotel," Rachel responded, trying to divert her husband's conversation.

"It's not like what you see, I—" Rachel seemed hesitant to continue.

“Quickly tell me, what did you do with that man? Explain, Rachel!” Arnold shook the woman's shoulder.

“Get your dirty hands off her, loser! How dare you touch my future wife?" Victor shouted as he pushed Arnold's body until the man fell to the ground.

Victor took Rachel's hand and hugged her. He stroked the woman's hair and tried to protect her from Arnold.

Arnold's blood boiled even more when he saw another man hugging his wife. "How dare you hug my wife!" he shouted with his hands tightly clenched into fists.

"Your wife?" Victor was surprised; he let go of Rachel.

Rachel took a deep breath. She folded her hands across her stomach while looking at Arnold with a disgusted look. Seeing Arnold's shabby appearance made Rachel embarrassed to admit him as her husband.

“Victor, don't you remember that I once told you that I have a husband on paper?” Rachel looked at Victor.

Victor was silent for a moment, then responded. “Oh yes, a useless husband who you never even allowed to sleep with?”

Rachel grinned and nodded. “He is that useless husband.” Her gaze turned to Arnold.

Arnold was stunned to hear Rachel's words. He accepted that Rachel forbade him from touching her during the two years of marriage, but at that moment, he didn't expect Rachel to say such cruel things about him.

"Rachel, what do you mean?"

Rachel rolled her eyes. "Let me introduce him to you; he is Victor Galvoir, my future husband."

Arnold snorted. He smiled bitterly. "What? Future husband? What do you mean? I am your husband, Rachel.”

“Husband?” Rachel chuckled. “What kind of husband? A husband who can never buy his wife anything? Know your place, Arnold; you've never even slept with me," Rachel teased.

“Only a stupid woman would choose you over Victor. Look, he even gave me a luxurious surprise proposal like this. He always gives me whatever I want. And for one year with him, I felt very happy," added Rachel.

Arnold was stunned to hear Rachel's confession. “So, you've been with him for a year? How could you!" Arnold exclaimed in disappointment.

Victor stepped closer to Rachel and put his arm around her waist. “You better know your place, loser! You don't deserve to be with a beautiful woman like Rachel. A useless guy like you better get out of here before you embarrass yourself even more.”

“Victor is right; you better get out of here now! You see, you've ruined my proposal. Go, Arnold! I don't want to see your face!” Rachel joined in, chasing Arnold away.

“No, I'm not leaving here! Mr. Liam asked me to always look after you, I didn't want to disappoint him," Leon insisted.

Rachel chuckled. “If it was just looking after me, Victor would be much better off.”

“No, don't trust him! I've seen him with another woman for the past year. I delivered his things to the hotel and saw him with another woman, and every time they were always different," said Arnold with a convincing expression.
