001. It All Started With Divorce Papers

“Mr. Sean, here are the divorce papers. Are you absolutely sure you want to sign them and officially end this marriage?”

Inside the town's judicial council office, Cyan sat quietly with the divorce papers in his hands while his wife, Stella Rogers, remained seated beside him, completely focused on her phone as though their marriage meant nothing to her anymore.

This was not the first time they had been here.

Not the second.

Not even the tenth.

In fact, this was the one hundred and oneth time Stella had demanded a divorce from him.

Throughout their three years of marriage, Stella had constantly threatened to end things over the smallest issues imaginable.

If Cyan accidentally broke a plate—she demanded a divorce.

If he woke up late—divorce.

If he forgot to do something on time—divorce.

At this point, the registrar practically knew them by name because of how often they appeared at the council office.

But today felt different.

Unlike the countless times before when Stella acted out of anger over trivial matters, this time, something MAJOR had happened.

Cyan lowered his eyes to the papers silently.

Before he could say anything, Stella suddenly snatched the documents from his hands and slammed them onto the registrar's desk.

“Why are you always acting so difficult?” Stella snapped coldly. “Every single time we come here to end this marriage, you always try to manipulate us into staying together! This time, I am completely done! I don't want this marriage anymore!”

Cyan slowly raised his hand, trying to calm her down.

“Stella, please stay—”

“Don't touch me!”

She violently shoved his hand away before glaring at him with disgust.

“And why is this so hard for you to understand?” she barked. “I am tired of being married to a useless man like you! I don't want to continue this marriage anymore. It's as simple as that!”

Without waiting for a response, Stella grabbed her handbag and pointed angrily at the registrar.

“The moment he signs those papers, finalize the divorce immediately. Is that clear?”

Then she turned around and stormed out of the office without looking back.

Feeling embarrassed by Stella's rude behavior, Cyan let out a tired sigh and looked apologetically at the registrar.

“My sincere apologies, Miss. Please don't take her words to heart. She didn't mean to insult you…”.

“It's alright, Mr. Sean,”

The registrar gave him a helpless smile. “I'm already used to it. After all… this is the 101th time your wife has come here asking for a divorce.”

Cyan nodded silently.

Seeing the exhausted look on his face, the registrar hesitated for a moment before speaking again.

“Mr. Sean, I honestly think you should just sign the papers and end this marriage. Maybe then, all these embarrassment and emotional stress will finally come to an end.”.

“That's just my opinion, though.”

She sighed softly but Cyan remained quiet.

He didn't argue with her.

He didn't defend himself either.

Without saying another word, he slowly stood up and walked out of the judicial council office.

Deep down, he didn't blame the registrar for suggesting divorce.

Twenty-five years ago, the Patriarch of the Rogers family—James Rogers—was at a family picnic when he saw Cyan’s little body floating on the sea. He didn’t know who Cyan was and didn’t see anybody there. James saved him and rushed him to the hospital.

The boy survived the incident, but unfortunately he had no idea who he was. He didn’t know who his dad was, neither did he know his mother, nor could he even remember their names. Cyan didn’t even remember his own name—it was all thanks to the tattoo on his hand which bore the writing “Cyan.”

James grew fond of Cyan and took him in. Although the other members of the Rogers family never liked Cyan, he still stayed with them.

Twenty-two years later, James was growing old. On his deathbed, the old man made his granddaughter—Stella Rogers—swear to him that she would marry Cyan and take him as her husband, and also live with him in their house. Stella agreed because it was her grandfather’s dying wish. And she married Cyan.

It didn’t take long before Mister Rogers, Stella’s grandfather, died. Immediately after his death, everything changed.

The entire Rogers family turned against Cyan. They treated him like trash, always seeing him as a useless homeless pauper. From the very first day he entered the Rogers family as Stella’s husband, he became the object of everyone’s hatred and ridicule.

No matter what he did, it was never enough. No matter how hard he tried, nobody appreciated him.

To them, he was nothing but a poor nobody who wasn't worthy of Stella Rogers.

The family believed Stella could have achieved greater things if she hadn't married a useless man like him.

Among all of them, only Stella mostly stood up for Cyan. She defended him from the bullies of her family, but all of a sudden, all those things stopped.

She suddenly started acting strange and started asking for divorce for the slightest things he does.

And in the space of three years of their marriage, she had asked for divorce for ONE HUNDRED TIMES.

Today was the one hundred and first time and today's reasoñ was a completely different one.

Today, Stella seemed more determined than ever to end the marriage.

And the painful part was…

He didn't even know the reason.

Remembering how it all started, Cyan rubbed the bridge of his nose tiredly before lifting his eyes and spotting Stella walking toward her car.

His gaze darkened slightly.

This was the perfect opportunity to ask her the question that had been tormenting him all day.

Why was she suddenly so desperate to end their marriage?

Just as Stella was about to enter her car, Cyan stepped forward and grabbed her wrist, stopping her in her tracks.

“The heck?!”

Stella snapped angrily as she turned around to see who had grabbed her hand.

The moment she saw Cyan standing behind her, her expression immediately filled with disgust.

She dropped her handbag onto the car seat and glared at him coldly.

“You again?” she scoffed. “What exactly do you want this time? And how dare you touch me like that?”

Cyan quickly released her hand.

“Please, Stella, I just want to know why you're suddenly so desperate for a divorce. Did I do something wrong? Is there something about me that you hate?”

Stella pushed his hand away completely and pointed sharply at him.

“Listen carefully, Cyan,” she said arrogantly. “I am Stella Rogers—the CEO of Rogers Designs. I handle millions of dollars every single day. But you?”

She looked at him from head to toe. “You are nothing but a useless husband with no future and no value. I am tired of this marriage,” Stella continued coldly. “Just sign the divorce papers and let's end this once and for all.”

She turned around and opened the car door again, intending to leave.

But before she could enter, Cyan grabbed her wrist once more.

“Tell me the truth, Stella, Is there another man in your life prompting for this divorce?”

Stella froze slightly.

“Is this because your ex-boyfriend is back in the country? Are you divorcing me because of Felix...?"

SLAP!

A loud slap landed heavily across Cyan's face before he could finish speaking.

“How dare you accuse me of cheating on you with another man?!” she shouted angrily.

Cyan opened his mouth to explain himself, but Stella cut him off immediately.

“This is exactly who you are, Cyan! Always creating stupid stories and ridiculous suspicions just so I can pity you and forgive you!”

She stepped closer, her eyes filled with irritation.

“But listen carefully,” she warned. “I am done with this marriage. Completely done! This is the final time I will ask for your signature. And trust me—you MUST sign those divorce papers today!”

With that, Stella turned around and entered her car.

Just as she was about to shut the door, Cyan suddenly held onto it desperately.

“Please, Stella,” he pleaded. “Can we just talk? Give us one more chance to fix things—”

“Get away from me!”

Stella shoved him violently with her leg and he fell straight into a muddy puddle beside the road.

SPLASH!

Dirty water soaked his clothes completely.

A painful groan escaped his lips as he struggled to sit up.

At that exact moment, Stella's phone started ringing.

She glanced at the screen and answered immediately before finally closing the car door.

“Hello, Mom?” A small smile appeared on her face. “Yes, I'm already on my way there.”

“Please don't let the party end before I arrive. I'm sure Felix will be very happy to see me.”

After ending the call, Stella drove off without another glance at Cyan.

The speeding car splashed muddy water across his face once again before disappearing down the road.

Cyan remained frozen on the ground.

His mind replayed Stella's words repeatedly.

Felix?

Wasn't Felix her ex-boyfriend?

Why was she going to meet him?

And what party was she talking about?

Cyan pulled the pieces together!

Wait…

Could it be that Stella was truly cheating on him with her ex-boyfriend?

Was that the real reason she suddenly wanted the divorce so badly now that Felix had returned?
