Lucian sat up in his massive velvet bed at the top of the Wayward Dragon Resort, rubbing his eyes while yawning softly. Fluffy was already wide awake, resting his chin on the edge of the mattress.
The familiar blue system screen popped open above Lucian's pillow, but the numbers inside made his jaw drop.

"Barnaby!" Lucian squeaked, pulling the blanket over his nose. "Why is the box so big today?! Yesterday it was two hundred thousand! Did I do something wrong?"
Barnaby floated down from the ceiling, chuckling warmly as he adjusted his ghostly spectacles.
"Not at all, young master," Barnaby explained, floating over to a translucent ledger. "You see, the System is not a bottomless well of magic, it is an engine. Yesterday, you bought the entire Wayward Dragon resort chain, the capital's transport network, and the sugar guild. Last night, thousands of travelers paid for rooms, carriage rides, and pastries."
Lucian blinked his big, curious eyes. "So... they gave me money?"
"The System automatically absorbed all the profit from your holdings into its treasury," Barnaby said, nodding proudly. "That profit is what fuels your daily yield! The more successful your businesses are, the more money the System generates for you to reinvest, you are building a true economic circle."
"Oh," Lucian murmured, scratching his head. "So my bakery did a really good job yesterday?"
"Exceedingly well," Barnaby smiled. "Now, put on your coat, today we enter the Royal Academy."
An hour later, Lucian stood before the sprawling marble arches of the Royal Arcane & System Academy.
The main courtyard was colossal, a sea of glittering robes, enchanted armor, and fluttering banners. Over a thousand young System Users from every corner of the realm were gathered in the plaza. Floating status screens of every color, green, yellow, pale blue, red, flickered above the crowd as youths flexed their stat boosts, compared quest logs, and showed off low-tier magic spells.
Lucian squeezed his wooden dragon in his coat pocket, completely wide-eyed. "Barnaby... look at all the boxes!"
While marveling at the crowd, Lucian bumped into an old man sitting quietly on a stone bench near a fountain. The man wore a faded, patched wool coat, munching happily on a warm, sugar-dusted apple fritter.
"Oh! Sorry, mister," Lucian said politely, stepping back.
"No harm done, young traveler," the old man chuckled, his gray eyes crinkling with warmth, he looked down at Lucian, then at Fluffy trotting beside him. "Mighty fine hound you have there and that's a fine pastry smell on you, too."
Lucian's eyes lit up. "I own the sugar guild at my town! Do you want half my pastry?" Lucian broke a warm honey-bun from his pocket and offered it to the stranger.
The old man accepted it with a joyful grin, taking a bite. "Delicious! A young man who shares sweet bread is a good man in my book."
As the old man ate, Lucian's gaze drifted slightly above the stranger's head, unlike the noisy green and yellow screens floating over the other students, a deep, majestic violet screen hovered above the old man, silent and steady.
[Host Entity Identified: Grand Arch-Mage Alistair.]
[System: Sovereign Academy Domain System (S-Rank).]
[Specialization: Spatial Architecture & Instant Barrier Genesis.]
Lucian gasped slightly, his small mouth forming an 'O'. 'His box is purple! It looks like a giant castle!'
Before Lucian could ask about the purple screen, loud silver trumpets sounded from the main balcony overlooking the plaza.
"Ah, duty calls," the old man said with a wink, dusting pastry crumbs off his coat. He patted Lucian's head gently. "Thank you for the treat, little friend. I suspect we'll be seeing plenty of each other."
Lucian watched in surprise as the old man walked straight toward the high balcony, stepping onto the air as if invisible stairs were supporting him. With every step, the faded coat dissolved, replaced by shimmering, star-woven arch-mage robes.
The crowd of a thousand students fell dead silent.
"Welcome, young prodigies, to the Royal Arcane & System Academy," Grandmaster Alistair's voice resonated across the entire plaza, backed by subtle magic. "I am Headmaster Alistair."
Serena, standing in the noble section nearby, gasped. "The S-Rank Arch-Mage himself!"
"Over a thousand of you stand here today holding unique Systems," Alistair continued, looking over the crowd before his eyes flicked down to Lucian with a subtle, warm smile. "But holding a system does not make you a master, today, you take the Enrollment Examinations, you will be tested on raw mana potential, practical combat, and tactical resource management."
Alistair raised his hand, and the massive stone doors leading to the Academy's trial arenas ground open with a heavy thud.
"Pass the trials, and you earn your place in these halls," Alistair declared. "Fail, and you return home. Let the examinations begin!"

The journey to the Central Province was long, but Lucian spent most of it curled up in a plush leather seat inside a private carriage, clutching his wooden dragon and taking a quiet nap.By late afternoon, the carriage pulled up to the Wayward Dragon Inn & Resort, a massive, three-story stone estate nestled at the base of the mountains just miles from the Royal Academy's border.
