The taxi sped away from Club9, its tires humming against the early-morning asphalt as the city slowly woke up. Nathan sat stiffly in the back seat, his grandmother beside him, her thin hands folded neatly on her lap. She hadn’t said a word since they left the club, but Nathan could feel the weight of her worry pressing down on him.

Streetlights flickered past the windows. The sky was already brightening.

His grandmother glanced at him from the corner of her eye, her gaze lingering longer than usual, but she said nothing. She had seen enough violence in her lifetime to know when words needed to wait.

Nathan broke the silence first.

“Grandma… what do we still have at home?” he asked quietly. “Anything to eat?”

She shook her head slowly. “Nothing, my boy. Not even rice.”

Nathan exhaled. “Then we’ll stop at the mall first.”

She turned to him, surprised. “The mall?”

“Yes,” he replied calmly. “We’ll buy what we need.”

The taxi changed direction.

They arrived at the mall less than thirty minutes later. It was one of the largest shopping complexes in Manhattan, already bustling despite the early hour. As they stepped out of the taxi, Nathan was painfully aware of his appearance—cheap slippers, simple clothes, his body still aching from the humiliation of the night before. His grandmother looked even more fragile beside him, her old sandals worn thin, her wrapper faded with age.

Inside the mall, they walked toward the grocery section. Nathan picked up items without hesitation—rice, oil, canned food, fresh meat, fruits, snacks, cleaning supplies. His grandmother watched in silence at first, then confusion crept into her eyes.

After a while, she couldn’t hold it in anymore.

“Nathan,” she said gently, stopping him by the aisle, “where is all this money coming from?”

He froze.

How could he explain David Brune? His late father? A mysterious abandoned project worth billions?

He smiled softly instead. “I made an investment, Grandma. Cryptocurrency. It blew up.”

Her eyes widened. “An investment?”

“Yes,” he nodded. “It brought me a few millions.”

The old woman stared at him as if she were seeing him for the first time. Then her lips trembled. Tears welled up in her eyes and spilled down her cheeks.

“I knew it,” she whispered. “I knew my boy would make it.”

She pulled him into a hug right there in the aisle, crying openly. Nathan hugged her back tightly, his chest tightening. For the first time in a long while, the burden on his heart eased a little.

They continued shopping.

They bought enough food to last a year. Nathan didn’t even flinch when the total ran into hundreds of thousands of dollars. The fear he had felt earlier was gone. The money was real. He was no longer that helpless boy everyone stepped on.

After groceries, they went to a clothing store.

A high-end one.

The moment they walked in, the salesgirls glanced at them and quickly looked away, their interest evaporating instantly. To them, Nathan and his grandmother were nothing but poor nobodies who didn’t belong there.

Nathan didn’t care.

“Grandma,” he said warmly, “pick anything you like.”

She hesitated. “These ones look expensive.”

He smiled. “It doesn’t matter.”

She slowly reached for a few dresses, still unsure.

Then—

Laughter echoed behind them.

Familiar laughter.

Nathan’s jaw tightened.

He turned.

Amelia.

With Bella, Ava, and Melody.

The four of them stood a few meters away, dressed immaculately, amusement written all over their faces.

Nathan sighed deeply.

Before he could stop her, his grandmother’s face lit up. “Amelia!” she called happily. “My dear!”

Nathan’s heart sank.

She walked toward them, smiling sincerely, completely unaware of what had happened between them the night before.

Amelia saw her—and burst out laughing.

The old woman stopped, confused.

“Nathan,” his grandmother whispered, turning back briefly, “why is she laughing?”

“Grandma,” he said quickly, “let’s just—”

But she was already moving again.

She reached Amelia and gently tapped her shoulder. “My dear, what’s going on between you and Nathan?”

Amelia recoiled instantly, brushing the old woman’s hand away with disgust. “Don’t touch me with your wrinkled hands,” she snapped. “It’s irritating.”

The other girls laughed.

“Do you know this hag?” Bella asked.

“No,” Amelia replied coldly. “I don’t.”

Nathan’s grandmother froze, shock washing over her face.

At that moment, Nathan stepped in, pulling his grandmother back protectively.

The girls exploded into laughter.

“Oh look,” Ava sneered, covering her nose. “The pauper is back. Are you still wearing those stinking boxers from last night?”

Bella giggled. “What do you expect? A pauper is a pauper.”

Melody crossed her arms. “I’ll make sure he leaves ESU or rots in jail.”

Nathan ignored them and turned to his grandmother. “Let’s go.”

But she looked at Amelia again, confused and hurt. “My dear… don’t you know? Nathan is rich now. He’s a multimillionaire. You should be talking about marriage.”

Nathan’s heart dropped.

The girls stared for half a second—

Then burst into uncontrollable laughter.

Amelia stepped forward, eyes full of contempt. “Dirty old woman,” she said sharply. “Even if the heavens emptied themselves on Nathan, he still wouldn’t be worth a million in seven lifetimes. I’d rather die single.”

Melody added smugly, “He’s a fraud. My brother exposed him.”

The insults rained down.

Nathan clenched his fists.

They mocked his grandmother. Mocked his life.

He thought about it.

He could buy the store. Shut them up instantly. He could wire millions to the counter just to silence them.

But he didn’t.

Not yet.

This wasn’t the time.

He would enjoy this properly.

His grandmother glared at Amelia. “You’re making a terrible mistake.”

“Shut up,” Amelia snapped. “Your grandson isn’t a man.”

The old woman straightened. “I’ll make sure Nathan marries a woman ten times prettier than all of you combined.”

The girls laughed harder.

Ava scoffed. “He can’t even date a five.”

Bella smirked. “Do you even have a date for tonight’s ESU Gala?”

Amelia laughed cruelly. “What girl would go with him?”

Melody sneered. “You’re not a man. Just end your life.”

That was it.

Nathan stepped forward, eyes burning. “You’re not as pretty as your delusions make you think.”

Gasps followed.

“I’ll attend the gala,” he continued coldly, “and I’ll show you what real beauty is.”

Amelia laughed. “How?”

“I won’t come with one date,” Nathan said calmly. “I’ll come with seven.”

The laughter stopped.

“Seven women,” he continued, “each ten times more beautiful than you.”

Silence.

Then Melody scoffed. “If you find even one, I’ll call you daddy publicly.”

Ava smirked. “I’ll dump my boyfriend and be your personal stripper.”

Bella laughed. “You’re dreaming.”

The girls turned and walked away, laughing loudly.

Ava shook her hips exaggeratedly. “That’s what you’ll get tonight if you win.”

Nathan stood there, anger and determination burning in his chest.

Tonight… everything would change.

Nathan stood still for a moment, his chest rising and falling as he tried to rein in the anger boiling inside him. His grandmother tugged gently at his sleeve, her wrinkled face filled with worry.“Nathan,” she said softly, “what was all that talk about seven women? Where will you even find them?”Nathan exhaled and gave a small, embarrassed smile. “Grandma… I honestly don’t know. I spoke too fast. I was angry.”She sighed, shaking her head slightly. “My boy, words spoken in anger are like stones thrown blindly. You can’t take them back.”“I know,” he replied. In his mind, however, a name surfaced—David Brune. The man who had called him earlier. The man who had told him the unbelievable truth about his father’s abandoned crypto project and the wealth attached to it. Nathan glanced at his phone briefly, then tucked it away. ‘I’m meeting David later today,’ he thought. ‘If an
