The glowing purple light faded into the rain. Ye Tian lay motionless on the wet asphalt. Inside his dark mind space the Supreme God drew his first breath in ten millennia.
A vast ocean of silent energy swirled around his consciousness. He opened his spiritual eyes and observed his new reality. He remembered the bitter betrayal in the Nine Heavens.
His most trusted disciple drove a poisoned blade through his heart during the Heavenly Tribulation. The traitors locked his immortal soul inside a worthless stone pendant. He spent countless ages trapped in a lightless void.
He waited patiently for a mortal vessel to cross his path. The ancient seal required pure resentment and a willing blood sacrifice to break. The agonizing despair of a discarded husband provided the exact key he needed.
A faint wisp of the original mortal soul floated before him. The spirit wept in silent agony over the memories of his wife.
"Your tears are useless." The Supreme God spoke into the void. "Tears do not wash away humiliation."
The mortal soul flickered and began to fade into nothingness.
"Go to sleep." The God commanded. "I will take your burdens now."
A massive flood of memories crashed into his brain. The Supreme God felt the sharp pain of shattered ribs.
He felt the cold disgust radiating from Lin Ruoxue and the arrogant laughter of Zhao Feng.
He opened his physical eyes and felt the muddy rainwater on his face. He pressed his palms against the wet gravel and forced his broken body upward. His joints screamed in protest.
He examined his body and frowned deeply.
"This realm is barren." His voice sounded like grinding stones in the quiet night. "The spiritual energy in this air is pathetic. These mortal meridians are clogged with filth and weakness."
He looked down at his own blood washing down the storm drain. His fingers traced the cracked bone of his right forearm. He felt no panic.
"You lived as a docile dog." He spoke to the empty street. "But your blood set a god free. Rest in the abyss."
He wiped the mud from his chin.
"I bear your name now. I bear your flesh and I shall bear your karma. Those who broke your bones will find their own ground turned to dust."
He dragged his heavy feet toward the edge of the ditch. He needed a secluded place to realign his fractured bones.
A shrill scream pierced the sound of the falling rain.
Ye Tian paused and turned his head. The sound came from a dark alleyway directly across the street.
He walked closer and peered into the shadows. A woman in a torn silk evening gown backed slowly away from five large men.
Two men wearing dark security uniforms lay unconscious near an overflowing dumpster. The thugs brandished rusty iron pipes and switchblades.
"Stay away from me." The woman demanded loudly. Her voice shook but she kept her chin raised in defiance. "My security team already signaled for backup. My family will hunt you down and ruin you."
The lead thug wiped rain from his scarred face and laughed loudly.
"Your security team is bleeding out on the pavement sweetheart. Hand over the designer purse and the diamond necklace. We might let you walk away with your life."
Ye Tian stepped into the narrow mouth of the alley. The splashing of his wet shoes against the puddles drew their attention.
The thugs turned around and sneered at his battered appearance.
"Look at this walking corpse." The lead thug pointed his pipe at Ye Tian. "Are you lost, beggar? Get out of here before we put you in a body bag."
Ye Tian stood still. The rain washed the drying blood from his cold eyes.
"You are standing in my way." Ye Tian stated calmly.
"Are you deaf and stupid?" Another thug stepped forward and cracked his thick knuckles. "You look like someone already beat you half to death. Run away while you still have legs."
The woman looked at Ye Tian with wide terrified eyes.
"Run away." She shouted at him from the back of the alley. "They will kill you without hesitation. Go find the police."
Ye Tian ignored her frantic warning. He knew he possessed almost no spiritual energy. He knew his ribcage was severely fractured. He did not care.
A Supreme God possessed combat experience forged across a million burning worlds. He needed no magic to butcher arrogant mortals.
"I do not run from noisy insects." Ye Tian said.
The lead thug spat on the ground in anger. "Do you think you are a hero? You look like a beggar who just crawled out of a traffic accident. I will enjoy cutting your face open."
"Your technique is flawed." Ye Tian said softly. "You hold your blade like a frightened child holding a toy. Your footwork is unbalanced. You are already dead."
"Shut up and die." The second thug screamed.
The man roared in anger and swung his iron pipe at Ye Tian's skull. Ye Tian did not raise his arms to block. He simply tilted his head two inches to the left.
The pipe whistled past his ear harmlessly. Ye Tian stepped inside the man guard with alarming speed.
He drove his left elbow upward into the thug throat. Soft cartilage crunched under the impact. The thug dropped the weapon and collapsed clutching his ruined neck.
The remaining four men froze in shock.
"Kill this bastard." The leader shouted in panic.
They rushed forward together in a chaotic swarm. Ye Tian moved with ruthless precision. He caught a thrusting switchblade by the wrist.
He twisted his body sharply and snapped the man's arm backward at the elbow joint. The bone popped loudly. The thug screamed in pure agony.
Ye Tian used the screaming man as a human shield to block another pipe strike. He then kicked the attacker squarely in the kneecap. The joint inverted with a sickening snap.
The final two thugs backed away in genuine fear. They dropped their weapons and raised their hands.
Ye Tian stepped forward and struck them both. They hit the wet pavement gasping for air and vomiting.
The brutal fight ended in less than twelve seconds.
The woman stood frozen against the damp brick wall. Her chest heaved rapidly as she processed the violence.
She just watched a half dead man dismantle a gang of armed thugs. He moved like a legendary martial arts grandmaster. He did not waste a single breath or a single motion.
She composed herself quickly and smoothed the wrinkles of her ruined silk gown. She possessed an undeniable aura of wealth and authority despite the rain.
"You saved my life." She walked toward him cautiously. "I thought I was dead. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
Ye Tian did not look at her face. He looked at his own trembling hands. He was merely testing the limits of his new shell.
The results were highly disappointing. His stamina was drained after ten seconds of movement.
"I did not do it for you." Ye Tian replied coldly. "They were blocking my exit."
The woman blinked in obvious surprise. Most men would grovel for a cash reward after doing such a heroic deed.
"My name is Su Qinghan." She offered her slender hand. "Please tell me your name. I must repay this debt."
Ye Tian turned his back to her and stared at the empty street. "Keep your money and your favors. Mortal wealth means nothing to me."
He began walking away into the cold rain.
Footsteps splashed frantically at the far end of the alley. A middle aged man in a tailored suit ran toward them holding a large black umbrella.
He bowed deeply the moment he saw the woman.
"President Su." The man breathed heavily in panic. "Thank the heavens you are safe. The police are two minutes away. The family cars are arriving on the main road right now."
Ye Tian stopped walking. The name clicked instantly inside his inherited memories.
Su Qinghan was the billionaire CEO of the Su Corporation. She controlled vast amounts of wealth and influence in Jiangbei City.
Lin Ruoxue and the Matriarch spent the last six months begging on their knees for a minor contract with her company.
The assistant noticed the groaning bodies on the ground and then looked at Ye Tian. He saw the cheap torn clothes and the blood.
The assistant reached into his tailored jacket and pulled out a leather checkbook.
"You did well, Mister." The assistant said in a dismissive tone. "Here is ten thousand yuan for your trouble. Take it and keep your mouth shut about what happened tonight."
Ye Tian stared at the check. He did not raise his hand to take it. He looked at the assistant with eyes as cold as a glacier.
"Put that away." Su Qinghan slapped the checkbook out of the assistant hand. "Are you blind? This man saved my life. Ten thousand yuan is an insult. Apologize to him immediately."
"But President Su." The assistant stammered. "Look at him. He is clearly a street vagrant. Ten thousand is more than enough."
"I said apologize." Su Qinghan raised her voice.
The assistant bowed his head quickly. "I apologize sir. I meant no disrespect."
Ye Tian ignored the assistant. He looked directly at Su Qinghan.
"Your dog barks too loudly." Ye Tian said evenly. "You should teach him better manners before someone tears his throat out."
He looked down at the wet check on the ground. He realized he needed immediate funds.
To buy century old ginseng to heal his ruined meridians he needed millions. To buy a quiet villa with a natural spirit spring he needed tens of millions.
He could not just snap Zhao Feng's neck. He wanted to destroy Zhao Feng pride. He wanted to buy the Lin estate and burn it to the ground while the Matriarch watched.
He needed a massive financial foundation. Su Qinghan was the perfect foundation.
Su Qinghan watched him stare at the ground. She refused to let a life saving debt go unpaid. She stepped forward and ignored the assistant holding the umbrella.
"Wait." Su Qinghan called out, stepping deeper into the rain. "Please stop right there. I do not leave my debts unsettled. Are you certain there is nothing I can do to repay you?"
Ye Tian stood still in the freezing rain. The brutal reality of his mortal vessel forced his hand.
He slowly turned around to face her. His sharp eyes glowed with hidden power through the dark night.
"Perhaps there is."

Traitor's Decree
Elder Gu crushed the communication jade in his sweating palm. The magical stone crumbled into useless green dust. He let the fragments slip through his trembling fingers and fall onto the stone tiles. He stood in the center of the barricaded eastern courtyard.
