The ability for a non-living thing to contain or possess an energy would have to be the ability of the user to link back the item into where it has an energy from, and hence, infuse it with their own energy.

That's exactly the main explanation to Techno-magic.

Techno- (relating to technology. In other words, a skill that would have an effect to whatsoever it's directed upon or into. It doesn't necessarily have to be attached to machinery.)
