The path was steep and dangerous. Oliver followed the woman as she walked down the winding trail, his boots slipping on loose stones. Every step was a battle to stay upright. The ground beneath him felt unstable, as if the earth itself did not want him there. The mist wrapped around his ankles, curling like fingers trying to pull him back. It smelled of damp soil and something else—something old and forgotten.

As they went lower, the air grew warmer. But it was not a comforting warmth. It did not feel like the sun on his skin or the heat of a fire on a cold night. It felt unnatural, as if something deep below was breathing hot air into the world above. Oliver swallowed hard, but his throat was dry.

The woman walked ahead of him, her dark cloak barely moving even though the wind tugged at his own clothes. She did not stumble. She did not hesitate. She moved as if she belonged here, as if the path itself welcomed her. Oliver, on the other hand, felt like an intruder. He kept his distanc

They ran. Again. But this time it felt worse. The red grass blurred beneath their feet, slapping against their legs like angry fingers. The sky cracked louder overhead, sending down faint flickers of broken light that made everything shimmer with unease.Behind them, the thing in Owen’s voice chased. It didn’t run. It glided. Its feet never touched the ground. It slid forward, fast, impossibly fast, like the world bent just to move it closer.Oliver didn’t look back again. He couldn’t.He could hear it. The slither of flesh against air. The clicking sound that might’ve been laughter. Or bones.Mina pulled him hard, faster, off the main path of grass and toward a jagged line of stone jutting from the ground. The rocks were black and broken, like the tips of shattered swords.“In here!” she hissed, diving into a crevice.Oliver followed, nearly falling. They squeezed through narrow stone walls, scraping their arms. It was tight, barely wide enough to breathe. They kept moving, crouched

  • Chapter 151

Oliver lay on his back in the grass. The grass wasn’t green like it should be. It was red, deep red, like blood. The blades were sharp and soft at the same time, brushing against his arms and legs. His body hurt all over. His chest moved up and down, very slowly. He didn’t know how long he had been there. Maybe minutes. Maybe hours. He didn’t know what time it was at all. His eyes were open, staring up at the sky. The sky looked wrong. It was broken. There were lines across it, like cracks in glass. Some cracks glowed red. Others were dark purple, like bruises in the sky. And behind those cracks… there were stars. But they didn’t look like normal stars. They blinked, slowly. They looked like eyes watching him.Oliver blinked. Just once. His mouth was dry. His hands were cold. His right hand hurt. His ribs ached when he breathed in. There was blood on his shirt. Not wet. Dry. Crusted. It stuck to the cloth and to his skin. But he was alive. Somehow. He was still here. The wind was sof

  • Chapter 150

Oliver took a deep breath and stepped onto the glowing path of light. The moment his foot touched it, the heavy gate behind him slammed shut with a loud sound like thunder breaking a mountain. The echo was sharp and powerful, making his whole body jump. He turned his head quickly, but the gate was gone. There was no going back now.The path in front of him twisted and turned as it went upward, shining gold like a ribbon made of sunlight. But everything around it was black. There was no sky, only thick black mist swirling like smoke above. Sometimes, pale blue lightning flickered far away, like weak stars trying to shine through the darkness. The air felt strange. It buzzed quietly, and Oliver’s skin started to tingle, like something invisible was touching him.He held his dagger tighter in his hand. It was the only weapon he had. Then a voice, not his own, spoke inside his head. It was calm and cold.System Message: Mental Trial Started – Realm of EchoesStatus: Lucidity UnstableTi

Oliver didn’t stop running. The cold forest roared behind him like a storm. Branches cracked. Leaves flew. The ground shook. But he didn’t look back. He held the silver dagger tightly in his hand, his fingers frozen around the handle. His legs hurt. His chest burned. But he ran. He didn’t know how long he had been running. The trees had changed. They were no longer black and twisted. Now they were tall and green, with soft moss at their roots and little glowing bugs that floated like tiny stars. The sound of rushing water filled the air. He followed it.Then, through the trees, he saw it, a wide river, dark and fast, flowing like liquid glass. On the riverbank was a wooden dock, and at the end of the dock was a boat.A man stood beside it. He was tall and wore a dark cloak. His face was hidden under a hood. The boat rocked gently on the water, tied to the dock with a thick rope.Oliver slowed down. His feet thudded softly on the mossy ground. He was breathing hard. His shirt stuck to

  • Chapter 148

The moment Oliver stepped through the third door, the silver one with no handle, everything around him changed. He didn’t fall. He didn’t float. He blinked once. And suddenly, he was somewhere new.He was standing in a forest. The trees around him were very tall. Their bark looked like it was made of cracked black stone. There were no leaves on the branches. Only twisted limbs that stretched out like long fingers trying to grab the sky. The sky above was gray and dull, like it had never seen the sun. Mist floated between the trees like soft smoke. It was quiet. Too quiet. There were no birds. No wind. No bugs buzzing. No animals moving. Nothing. Just stillness.Oliver took a small step forward. His shoes made a soft crunching sound as they stepped on dry leaves. That was the only sound. He crossed his arms over his chest. He was cold. But not in the normal way.It wasn’t the kind of cold that made your skin hurt. It was the kind that went deeper. It slid under your skin and into your

  • Chapter 147

Oliver’s boots tapped softly on the cold black floor. The hallway stretched ahead, long and dark, with walls made of smooth black stone. The torches on the sides flickered slowly, like they were tired. Each flame gave off just enough light to show the next few steps. The air was heavy. Quiet. Too quiet.Oliver kept walking, eyes on the other figure ahead, the figure that looked just like him.His heart beat fast. Thump. Thump. Thump. He tried to speak again, but his voice caught in his throat. The other Oliver, the copy, just stood there, smiling that strange, empty smile. His eyes were dark, like pits. No light in them. No soul. Finally, Oliver found his voice.“Who… are you?”The other Oliver tilted his head slowly, like a puppet moved by strings.“I am you,” he said. “But broken.”The real Oliver took a step back. “That’s not possible. You’re a trick.”The fake one nodded. “Yes. And no.”The torches behind Oliver flickered, then went out. One by one. Darkness crept closer from beh
