A massive red beam of energy shot across the battlefield, cutting through everything in its way. It was like a giant sword made of pure destruction, burning everything it touched. The ground shook violently as the attack roared forward, tearing through stone, earth, and even the air itself.

The battlefield, once filled with scattered ruins and broken pillars, now became a place of fire and chaos. The blast left behind a deep, glowing trench where the earth had been ripped apart.

The command room in the ruined city hall was completely dark. The giant silver hologram was dead. The screen was black.Commander Oliver stood alone. He did not move. He did not blink.Just two minutes ago, he had watched the Wraithborn King murder the leaders of humanity. He had watched the Overlord use the human quantum communication line to teleport directly to Earth. The core worlds were burning. The capital of the human race was falling.Oliver looked at his right hand. The thick white bandages were gone. His hand was made of smooth, heavy, black metal. It was Wraithborn magic. Tiny purple lines glowed under the dark metal. The hand did not shake. The heavy wooden doors of the command room slammed open.Captain Iris ran into the room. Her left arm was still in a thick white cast. Her beautiful face was covered in dirt and gray ash. Behind her, Billy the hacker rushed in. Billy was holding his computer tablet. He was breathing very hard."Oliver!" Iris yelled. "The power grid spik

Inside, the alien black coin was resting quietly. It glowed faintly. Oliver picked up the coin with his black metal right hand. The coin and his hand were made of the exact same dark magic. When they touched, they synced perfectly. The purple light brightened.Oliver felt a rush of cold, dark data flow up his arm. It did not hurt anymore. It felt powerful."The Overlord is watching the neighbor planets," Oliver whispered to himself. "I must inform the Council."Oliver walked to the back of the room. He approached the large, secure quantum communication terminal. This was the machine that could talk across the universe, reaching the core worlds of humanity.Oliver pressed his metal hand against the scanner. The machine hummed loudly. VMMMMMM.A brilliant, liquid silver light exploded in the center of the room. The post-singularity glow illuminated the broken walls of the city hall. It was a beautiful, pure human technology.Three giant faces appeared in the silver light. The Travele

"What are the Wraithborn doing?" Oliver asked. This was the most important question. Oliver watched Billy's face closely.Billy frowned. He pulled up a new graph. It showed red lines measuring enemy magic."This is the strange part, boss," Billy said. He scratched his messy hair. "The Wraithborn energy readings on our surface are dropping. They are getting weaker."Captain Ren, who had just walked into the room, gasped. "Are they retreating? Did you scare them away, Commander?""The Overlord does not feel fear," Oliver said coldly. "If his energy is dropping here, it means he is moving it somewhere else. Billy. Scan the adjacent sectors. Scan Delta-9 and Echo-4."Billy typed furiously. A larger map of the solar system appeared. The planets Delta-9 and Echo-4 were still floating near Sigma-12 in the purple Rift space.Billy gasped. "You are right, boss. The enemy energy is spiking on the neighbor planets. It is growing massively. Millions of new monsters are appearing in the dark space

The red screens in the underground bunker glowed like fresh blood. The heavy steel walls shook. The terrible, deep voice of the Overlord echoed through the hidden speakers. The monster was not in the room, but his mind was in the computer. He had followed the alien black coin in Commander Oliver’s hand."Your perfect math... belongs to me now," the Overlord laughed. The twenty-two miners screamed. Young Sam covered his ears and fell to the floor. Captain Ren raised her plasma rifle, but she did not know what to shoot. There was nothing to shoot. The enemy was inside the wires.Captain Iris backed away from the red screens. "Oliver! You brought him inside! The bunker is compromised!"Oliver stood in the center of the white room. He did not panic. He did not drop the coin. He looked at the red screens. He analyzed the data."The Overlord is broadcasting his consciousness through the Key of Echoes," Oliver stated calmly. "He is using the coin as a wireless bridge. He is hacking the loca

The sixty soldiers quietly raised their guns. They aimed at the blank, solid stone walls exactly where Oliver told them to aim.The terrified miners in the middle of the group did not know what was happening. They just kept walking up the ramp."Fire in three," Oliver counted down perfectly. "Two. One. Execute."KABOOOOOM!Sixty heavy plasma rifles fired at the exact same millisecond. The bright blue lasers blasted into the solid stone walls. The heat melted the rock instantly.Terrible, high-pitched screams erupted from inside the walls. SCREEEEECH!The human soldiers had shot the Wraithborn monsters before the monsters even knew they were seen. Dozens of hidden Acid-Crawlers and Phase Sentries were burned to ash inside their own hiding spots. Black smoke poured out of the melted holes in the rock."Reload," Oliver commanded cleanly. "Target sector four. Aim up at a thirty-degree angle. Fire."BANG! BANG! BANG!The soldiers fired again. More hidden monsters died inside the ceiling.

"It is a tactical advantage," Oliver said. He closed his metal fingers slightly to dim the light. "The hidden ladder is blocked. The Overlord knows we are here. We cannot use the standard paths.""Then how do we escape?" a miner asked, crying. "We are trapped miles underground!""We will not be trapped," Oliver said smoothly. "I have mapped the entire subterranean network. I have located a secondary route. I call it the Spiral Ascendant. It is an old, natural fault line that leads directly to the lowest level of the city’s civilian bunkers."Lira floated down from the ceiling. She hovered next to Oliver’s ear."The Spiral Ascendant is highly unstable, Oliver," Lira whispered. "The Rift magic is boiling the rock there. If you take these fragile humans through that path, the floor will collapse. They will fall into the magma."Oliver did not look at the ghost. He looked at Captain Ren."Captain Ren," Oliver ordered. "Do you have portable Anchor-stabilizers in your supply packs?"Ren nod
