CHAPTER 103

The ballroom buzzed with conversations and clinking glasses. Javier stood quietly near the far wall, scanning the sea of industry leaders and powerful guests. He wasn't one for parties—especially ones filled with people who would smile at you and stab you the moment your back turned.

Valeria returned to his side and murmured, “Your presence is already causing ripples. Three tech conglomerates tried to pull their projects from G-Tech the moment they realized you’re here.”

Javier tilted his head slightly. “Predictable.”

Just then, someone bumped into him—hard.

Wine sloshed onto Javier’s shirt.

“Oh, bloody hell!” the man exclaimed. “You could’ve moved, you statue. Who the hell stands there like a—”

He trailed off as he looked up.

A tall man in his early forties, slick brown hair, red face from too much wine—Aiden Rothwell, owner of Rothwell Industries, and notoriously loud-mouthed at every summit.

Aiden’s gaze narrowed.

“Oh. It’s you,” he sneered, looking at Javier's wine-stained shirt.

“Who gave you permission to bring the vault files here?”Silence. Not the kind of silence that gently fell over a room, but the thick, choking kind that strangled breath and froze movement. The man in the tuxedo—pale, sweating—clutched the USB in his hand like it might protect him from the storm brewing behind Javier’s gaze.“N-No one, sir,” he stammered. “I—I just thought if they saw what was inside, maybe we could avoid—”“You thought,” Javier interrupted, his voice still calm but carrying a weight that cracked through every ego in the room, “you could bargain.”The man swallowed. “Cassian said—”

“Who insulted my husband?”Silence crashed down like thunder. All heads turned toward Valeria Everhart as she strode into the ballroom, the soft click of her heels echoing like gunshots across the marble. Her dress—black silk, tailored to perfection—moved like liquid shadow around her. Elegant. Composed. Lethal.Javier stood still, unbothered, his eyes meeting hers with a flicker of something unreadable. But Valeria—her gaze burned. The crowd parted instinctively. The women who’d mocked Javier earlier took a step back. The bartender who had hesitated now looked pale. Cassian Langston’s confident smirk faltered at the corners.Valeria&rsquo

  • CHAPTER 251

The ballroom shimmered with chandeliers and champagne flutes, filled with laughter far too rehearsed and smiles far too sharp.Everyone who was someone had gathered for the annual Whitmore Foundation Charity Gala—a parade of designer gowns, million-dollar watches, and inflated egos.Javier Everhart stood alone by the marble pillar near the back, wearing a dark gray suit that lacked any designer logo. His tie was simple. His shoes polished but not glossy. No entourage. No fanfare. He was invisible.Just how he liked it.Except invisibility often came with assumptions.“Oh dear,” a woman's voice said with a sharp chuckle. “Did someone let the valet wander inside?”Javier turned slightly.Three women stood near him, their glittering gowns clinging to curves sculpted by surgeons. Their laughter was brittle, like glass about to crack. One of them, a blonde with a crystal clutch, raised a brow at him.“You’re not lost, are you?” she asked. “This isn’t the service entrance.”Javier offered a

The elevator chimed softly on the seventy-eighth floor of Everhart Holdings.Logan Harricks adjusted his tie for the third time as the receptionist led him through the expansive glass hallway. His palms were sweating, though the temperature in the building was comfortably chilled. He’d rehearsed his apology at least twenty times in the car. Still, his mouth felt dry.He had barely slept since the lounge incident. Not after discovering who Javier Everhart actually was. He’d made a grave mistake — one his shareholders were already whispering about. The receptionist stopped at a tall set of matte-black double doors. She didn’t knock. She simply stepped aside.“He’s waiting,” she said.Logan inhaled sharply and entered. The room was stunning in its minimalism. Black marble floors. An enormous window overlooking the skyline. A single long table, clean save for a sleek laptop and a cup of untouched espresso. And behind the table sat Javier. In the same modest style jacket. No nameplate. No

“Sir,” the host sneered, eyes scanning Javier from head to toe, “this is a private lounge. You’ll need a reservation. And a better suit.”Javier glanced down at his shoes—worn but polished leather. Nothing flashy. Just quiet elegance. Like him.“I believe I have a reservation under Elias Rowe,” Javier said calmly. He always used aliases in places like this. No need for his real name to cause a scene. The host’s smirk widened as he tapped at the tablet. “Elias Rowe? Doesn’t sound familiar.”Behind Javier, a man in a shimmering navy suit stepped forward, flanked by a laughing entourage.“Just send the bum out, Caleb,” the man said loudly. “We don’t want him stinking up the cigar lounge. Jesus, did he walk here?”More laughter.Javier didn’t flinch. “Check again. Rowe. Elias.”The host—Caleb—sighed dramatically and tapped again. His brows lifted slightly, but the condescension didn’t leave his voice.“Well, well. Must’ve been an accident in the system. There is a Rowe reservation, but it

The red lights flashed like the slow rhythm of a heartbeat. Javier’s eyes scanned the room — not in panic, but precision.Valeria’s breath hitched as the tremor passed through the floor beneath them again. But Javier didn’t move. His grip on her hand remained steady, anchoring her in the chaos.Across from them, the girl — Maren — didn’t flinch either.Vincent Rhys’s voice continued to echo through the speakers. “Did you think burying my name would keep me gone, Javier? I taught you everything. And now I’ll take everything back.”Javier exhaled through his nose, slow and quiet. “You always did enjoy melodrama.”He pressed the hidden button in his cufflink. The floor stopped shaking. The red lights blinked once. Then off.Silence.Valeria looked around. “What…?”Javier turned his head slightly toward the wall. “You should come out now, Callen.”A second later, a panel near the core flicked open — revealing a hidden surveillance room behind one-way glass. Inside stood a tall man in a na
