Chapter 7: The Apex Sovereign

The echoing crash of the Shadow Panther hitting the arena wall still reverberated through the concrete foundations of Sector 4’s Grand Colosseum. Heavy stone dust drizzled down from the cracked masonry where the big cat hung suspended for a agonizing second before slumping into the dirt. Its sleek black hide was charred and dripping with condensed mist from the reflected kinetic blast, its breathing ragged and shallow.

Across the fifty-thousand-seat arena, the silence was total. Everyone was in shock. Nobody expected it.

In the VIP skyboxes, executive officers from five major corporate guilds stood motionless against the glass balconies. Director Drake’s hands were shaking so violently his tablet clattered to the floor, displaying red alert diagnostics from Gideon’s bio-monitors. Elder Vance stood beside him, his face drained of all color, staring down at the glowing blue aquatic dome that still shimmered around kin cancel like a royal court.

Down on the arena floor, Gideon scrambled backward in the dirt, his expensive silk cape shredded and coated in mud. His silver hair hung in sweaty clumps over eyes that held no remaining trace of arrogance, only pure unadulterated panic.

"No..." Gideon stuttered, his voice amplified by the hovering broadcast drones floating overhead. "My panther is B-Rank... It has three corporate sponsorship contracts... It has an illegal amplification collar! How can a rock-turtle reflect a B-Rank ultimate skill?”

I didn't answer with words. I simply took another step forward.

Beside my right boot, lex’s heavy claws crunched through stone and dirt. The small tortoise’s obsidian shell hummed with a low, oceanic vibration that caused tiny pebbles to levitate off the ground around its feet. Every step the beast took reinforced the kinetic aura surrounding me, making me the young tamer feel as immovable as an ancient mountain range.

High above, Ian circled gracefully in the open sky, its silver and cyan scales casting brilliant, blade like shadows across the battleground. The wind pressure from its wings cleared the lingering smoke, keeping the stage perfectly visible for every camera drone in the city.

I felt the immense power flowing through my veins, not just as static numbers on a blue screen, but as raw physical control over my environment. I could hear the rapid frantic heartbeat of the ruined Shadow Panther across the ring. I could smell the ozone sharp in the air. I could feel the panic radiating off the crowd.

"Stand up, Gideon,"I said, my voice quiet, yet carrying easily across the entire stadium through the sheer resonance of my boosted Spirit stat. "You talked about tearing my beasts to pieces. You talked about snapping my neck. Get up and fight."

Gideon’s chest heaved. He looked over at his Shadow Panther, which was groaning, struggling to push its heavy front limbs out of the crater.

"Kill him!" Gideon shrieked, his composure completely shattering into madness. He pointed a trembling, blood stained finger toward me. "Panther! Overdrive Mode! Force the collar! Rip his heart out!"

On the panther’s neck, the hidden black metal ring flared with a sickly  forbidden red light. The beast let out an agonizing howl as dark, synthetic mana was forced directly into its bloodstream, burning its muscle tissue to grant a temporary, unnatural surge of raw power.

The Shadow Panther’s eyes turned entirely blood red. Veins bulged along its neck as it pulled itself out of the wall, its claws lengthening into six-inch blades of dark energy. It launched itself off the stone, breaking the sound barrier in a desperate, suicidal sprint toward me.

BOOM!

The ground tore open along the panther’s path. It was moving faster than any C-Rank or B-Rank tamer could track, a streak of pure, destructive dark flame aiming directly for my exposed throat.

"Kin, watch out!" Captain Thorne yelled from the player tunnel, his hand reaching reflexively for his sidearm.

I didn't dodge. I didn't even raise my arms.

"Lex," I commanded softly. "Gravitational Anchor."

lex raised its heavy front head, its glowing blue eyes flashing with ancient authority.

THUMP!

An invisible pillar of dense, super-compressed gravitational force slammed down from the sky, striking the leaping Shadow Panther directly mid-air.

CRASH!

The three hundred pound shadow beast was instantly flattened into the arena dirt like a bug beneath a heavy boot. The sheer downward pressure was so intense that the stone floor beneath the panther caved inward by three feet, creating a perfectly round, six foot wide crater. The red collar around the beast’s neck snapped under the gravitational strain, exploding into harmless plastic and wire fragments.

The panther whimpered once, its forced overdrive state instantly collapsing, and went completely unconscious.

Gideon froze, his outstretched hand trembling in mid-air.

I walked past the cratered panther without even giving it a second look, stopping three feet away from Gideon.

Ian swooped down from the clouds, landing smoothly on my left shoulder, its sharp beak hovering inches from Gideon’s face. Lex stomped up on my right, its dark shell pulsing with a heavy, rhythmic hum that made Gideon’s knees buckle.

Gideon fell backward onto his rear, staring up at the boy he had called a "shelter rat" just two hours ago. In kin’s glowing blue eyes, Gideon didn't see a cleaner, an underdog, or a lucky rookie.

He saw an absolute monarch.

"I... I surrender," Gideon whispered, his voice trembling so hard he could barely articulate the words. "I yield! Don't... please don't hurt me..."

The silence in the Colosseum stretched for one agonizing second.

Then, the head referee lowered his red flag and raised his green marker high into the afternoon air.

"MATCH OVER!" the referee screamed into his headset, his voice ringing out across the broadcast channels of the entire metropolis. "THE WINNER OF THE DISTRICT NOVICE CUP... AND THE UNDISPUTED CHAMPION OF SECTOR 4... IS KIN CANCEL!"

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Confetti cannons erupted around the perimeter of the stadium, showering the dirt arena in millions of golden and crimson paper streamers. The crowd went completely wild, fifty thousand spectators standing on their feet, chanting my name until the glass windows of the skyboxes vibrated.

"KIN! KIN! KIN!" The crowd was screaming my name and it was a new feeling.

High in the executive boxes, Director Drake slumped into his chair, his head in his hands. Beside him, Elder Vance turned his back on the arena, his face dark as night as he pulled out a encrypted satellite communicator.

"Cancel the sponsorship contracts for Gideon," Elder Vance ordered into the phone, his voice cold and devoid of emotion. "And contact the Central High Guild Council. Tell them an Unbound Tamer with ancient dual lineages has appeared in Sector 4. We need to handle this before he reaches the main Rift Gates."

Down on the arena floor, floating blue system panels began rapidly cascading before my vision, blocking out the golden confetti.

I felt a deep warm rush of spiritual energy flood my core as my Host Level shot up seven tiers at once. My physical stats re-aligned, my muscles expanding with refined power, my senses broadening to encompass the entire stadium.

Captain Thorne walked out onto the field, a broad scarred smile breaking across his face as he tossed a clean leather coat over my shoulders.

"Not a bad day's work for a shelter cleaner, kid," Thorne said, clapping a heavy hand on my shoulder. "You just handed the corporate guilds their biggest public defeat in ten years. They're going to hate you for this."

"Let them hate me," I said, my voice calm, firm, and filled with quiet confidence as I looked at the golden license glowing in my hand.

With this license, no guild could force me into a contract. No manager could order me around. I was an independent tamer, free to dive into the dangerous Rift Dungeons, gather resources, and raise my companions on my own terms.

I looked up at Ian on my shoulder, who let out a victorious, clear screech that cut through the thunderous applause of the crowd. Beside my boot, lex let out a low, satisfied rumble.

I looked past the screaming crowd, past the floating holographic screens, and toward the distant horizon where the purple light of the Central Abyss Gate pulsed against the skyline.

This tournament was just the beginning. The world was full of abandoned, forgotten beasts waiting to be awakened and I was going to build the most unstoppable team the world had ever seen. The world was about to witness a new rising of a great beast tamer.

The rising of the Sovereign Tamer.
