Owen grabbed his jacket and walked out the door.

He got into his car, the engine roaring to life as he pulled away from the precinct.

He had one destination in mind, Nathalie's uncle, if he was the last lead, Owen had to move fast.

He drove with purpose, weaving through traffic until he reached the neighborhood listed in the file.

It wasn't the worst part of town, but it was run-down enough to make anyone suspicious. He parked across the street and eyed the building cautiously before making his way to the door.

But something was off, the front door wasn't locked.

Owen's instincts kicked in.

He reached for the small firearm he always kept on him, just in case and slowly pushed the door open.

The place was quiet, too quiet.

He stepped inside, eyes scanning the small living room.

No sign of a struggle, but something felt wrong, there was an empty cup on the table, a jacket slung over the back of the couch, someone had been here recently.

But now? The place was des

Ashley knew exactly what that message was about. Her father wanted to talk about her, Isabella, his beloved wife. The very woman Ashley couldn't stand. She wasn't in the mood for another talk filled with subtle guilt trips and forced understanding. Even though the school day had barely begun, she was already thinking of ways to avoid that conversation entirely. Her eyes shifted across the room and landed on someone, someone who could be useful, more of a distraction. "George." She said, turning to him suddenly. "Can we start working on the project today?" George blinked, caught off guard. "Oh… uh, I mean, I haven't gotten all the materials yet. The research stuff and..." "We can get them together." She cut in. "I'm your partner in this project. I should be of use too, right?" He stared at her for a second, then nodded. "Okay." "Great." Ashley said, a little too quickly. "We'll start after school." "Oh. Okay." George replied, still trying to catch up, but pleased noneth

Alfred’s face darkened like thunder. “A man who used to make Calderon look like nothing before our very eyes. He was exiled from this city years ago, after what he did to my brother’s company. He shouldn’t even be alive. Could it be Miguel Antonio? If it is, we are doomed for sure.” The fire in the hearthstone crackled louder now, as if reacting to the storm of revelations in the room. Chloe's fingers trembled where they laced with Easton's, and Eunice clutched the edge of the armchair as if it were the last solid thing in her world. Alfred’s face was stern, “Miguel Antonio,” he muttered again. The name fell like a curse into the silence. “You told me he vanished,” Eunice said hoarsely. “That he was dealt with.” “I believed he was.” Alfred rubbed a hand over his face. “He was forced out after the collapse of Marrow Holdings. He should have been too deep in legal trouble to ever recover.” Miranda’s eyes flickered. “Well, he’s back. And if I’m correct, he’s the real puppe

"No." Chloe shook her head. "There is one option." Eunice's eyes widened in horror. "No, Chloe." "Yes." Chloe pulled out her phone. "I'm calling Easton." "Chloe, please," Eunice pleaded, tears falling freely now. "Don't drag him into this." "He's my husband, Mother! He's part of this family! He deserves to know the truth." Before Eunice could stop her, Chloe stepped into the hallway and made the call. Moments later, Easton's deep voice answered. "Chloe?" "Easton, I need you here. Now." Without hesitation, Easton arrived within the hour, stepping into the storm-battered mansion like a beacon of calm in the chaos. "Chloe," he greeted softly before pulling her into a firm embrace. Then he faced Alfred and Eunice. "Tell me everything." Alfred laid out the details—the financial manipulations, Sebastian Calderon's betrayal, the mounting legal pressure. Easton's face grew hard. "You should have called me sooner." "I didn't want to compromise your career," Eunice whispered. "My

  • CHAPTER 119

The heavy rain drizzled against the windshield as Chloe Stewart's black SUV pulled into the long driveway of the Stewart estate. The towering iron gates closed behind her with a hollow thud, sealing her into the world she once called home. Her fingers trembled slightly on the steering wheel as she looked up at the grand mansion, this was her childhood sanctuary, her safe haven and now it is overshadowed by scandal and whispers. "We're here, ma'am," the driver said softly. Chloe nodded and exhaled deeply before stepping out into the storm, her high heels clicking against the wet stones. The door opened before she reached it, revealing her mother, Eunice Stewart, standing stiffly in the grand foyer, her face a mask of forced composure. "Mother," Chloe breathed, rushing forward and embracing her tightly. Eunice returned the embrace, but only briefly. "You're here." "Of course, I'm here, the news is everywhere." Chloe pulled back, her eyes searching her mother's face for answer

  • CHAPTER 117

Owen wasn’t sure what to say or do, he wanted to help her and he would. He just didn't know where to start or if it would come off awkwardly. "You want to take a bath?" He asked slowly, she nodded, just as slowly, and he gave her a small smile. "My name is Owen, by the way." He said, gently. "I'm... I'm Nathalie." She replied softly. Owen nodded, smiling at her, he walked away briefly and returned with a towel, a t-shirt, and a pair of shorts. "You can change into these." He offered. "Thank you." she muttered. She knew she probably shouldn't trust him, he was a man too, after all. But he had saved her, he hadn't tried to take advantage of her, hadn't pried for unnecessary details, and was even giving her something clean to wear. She took a shower, letting the hot water wash away the stress and fear. When she changed into the clothes he gave her, she noticed something, the shirt smelled like him. His scent was comforting in a way she didn't want to admit. S
