Luca Ashford stepped forward and held the thug's hands mid-way.

“Are you asking for death? How dare you touch me, you filthy thing?” The thug uttered.

Hearing this, June was scared and felt she needed to act fast, so she decided to throw Luca under the bus as he was inviting more trouble to the Thornton family.

“Please kind sir, this man is not part of this household, do whatever you want with him.” She uttered, pointing towards Luca.

“Boys, attack!”

They all charged forward and amid the chaos, Jason Stewart crawled behind a cupboard, he still hasn't recovered yet from the pain.

Amelia yelled, and bent down covering her ears in fear.

As for June she hid behind her husband, her hands were trembling as she watched the fight.

'I hope you get killed, you are nothing but a worthless bastard, you deserve to die. Trying to be the hero.’ She thought.

As the thug’s subordinates charged towards Luca with all their might.

Luca Ashford began to fight, he kicked one in his belly; “Ahh!!” and that one kick sent him crashing into a table breaking an expensive vase with it.

Leon was surprised at the strength Luca possessed, the way he kept throwing those punches around, made him even more impressed.

'He has truly grown, he is no longer the child he once was.' He thought as he smiled to himself that he made the perfect choice for his daughter.

He immediately rushed to pick up a wood which he sighted close by in an effort to help Luca Ashford with the thugs.

But before he could help, they were all on the ground groaning in pain.

Realising that the threat has been tranquilized, Jason Stewart crawled out of his hideout, like he never left.

Ahh!!

“My leg!” Some of the thugs who were on the ground groaning in pain uttered.

"We are so sorry!” They pleaded with Luca but he was already too furious to be begged at this moment.

Luca then turned to the leader who was burly scarred and asked;

"Who sent you, why are you here?"

"We... We!"

Luca squeezed the hands of the leader even harder and blurted out coldly;

"I will not ask again, who sent you?”

“Ahh, I will tell you. The truth is, we weren't here to collect any debt. I lied and I am sorry, let me go.”

“What do you mean, you bastard?” Mr Leon Thornton asked as he was very enraged that they even dared to lay a finger on him for nothing.

“Speak you coward!!” Luca Ashford yelled.

“The truth is, Mr Wilson Brown… our boss, asked us to bring the young Miss Amelia of the Thornton family to him.”

Amelia, upon hearing the mention of her name, stood up still a bit shaky from the chaos, stood up and asked; “What the hell did you say?!”

“Our boss asked us to bring her to him, because some powerful figure of some sort has set his eyes on her. Please let us go, we promise never to come back.”

“Get the hell out of here… I'll give you ten seconds!”

The gang members, despite the pain and gnashing of teeth accompanied with broken bones, ran out of the villa. They didn't want to anger Luca any further.

Seeing that they had all scurried away, June came out and began to scold Luca.

“How could you do this Luca? You have succeeded in beating up the gangs of Brown Group, not just them, you've also angered this new mysterious powerful figure, on your first day of arrival? What would happen to the Thornton family now, all because you want to play the big hero! Are you proud of yourself now, huh?! You have succeeded in making everything worse!!” June blurted out.

Jason, straightened himself, despite the fact that he was in pain, he didn't want Luca Ashford to make fun of him, so he stepped forward and calmed Mrs June.

“Aunt June! Don't you worry about any of this.” He uttered with a smirk on his face.

“I know you are kindhearted Jason, but no this arrogant ingrate has just caused more troubles for us. The Brown Group is not to be taken for granted. They are known for their ruthlessness, our family is so done for!” June lamented with worry.

“Aunt June, relax okay, everything will be fine, I will personally have a one on one conversation with this mysterious man to sort all this out, there must be a misunderstanding somewhere.”

June's eyes sparkled with joy, “You will do this for our family?”

“But of course aunt, anything for you, you are practically family.” Jason Stewart said with confidence.

Amelia on the other hand was dumbfounded for being the topic of the day from all sides, she just couldn't fathom it.

Luca Ashford remained unfazed by the hateful comments and glares he was getting from June and Jason, he straightened up his outfit and said;

“I think I have to have a conversation with Wilson Brown myself, I need to get to the bottom of this.”

“How son? Mr Wilson Brown is one hard man to reach, he is not someone that can be threatened or easily accessible, he is heartless. I fear going up to him would put you in harm's way.” Mr Leon Thornton uttered, he was worried about Luca's safety.

Jason with furrowed brows, scoffed and said;

“Tch… come on now, you don't have to act all tough like you could possibly locate Mr Wilson Brown, he is not some low life, that you could meet whenever you want to.”

“Wilson's men, won't even let a low life like you cross his gates not to talk of allowing you see him. You dream too big and aim too high. That is what I hate about you. Acting all high and mighty doesn't change the fact that you are nothing!”

“He is all talks!” Jason Stewart mocked.

“And a copycat too apparently, just because Jason here said he would find who the mysterious powerful man is and put an end to this, doesn't mean you should do the same, you are just a lowly quarry employee that's all you will ever be. And he is the heir to the Stewart’s family fortune, you shouldn’t dream of competing with him.” June uttered making fun of Luca.

    The house was quieter than usual that morning, but Elsa could feel the weight of Dorian’s presence even when he wasn’t in the same room. Dorian had returned from a trip, he had asked Luca and Amelia his daughter in-law to stay in this mansion with him for a while. But unexpectedly, Elsa showed up, thereby ruining his mood. He loved Elsa so much but after the betrayal whereby she left him for Salvador, he couldn't forgive her. He had hoped she would fight for them, but she didn't even his family, his own brother betrayed him. All those memories made him furious whenever he saw Elsa in the mansion. He moved through the estate like a man guarding territory, and Elsa couldn’t blame him how could she? She had forfeited her place in his life and by his side decades ago. But then again, if she truly wanted to mend things with Luca, she knew she couldn’t ignore Dorian forever. ***** Elsa decided it was time she started warning up to him too, so she kept watching his every m

    The days that followed were quieter. The sharp arguments had faded, replaced by a careful stillness that felt fragile but promising. Elsa kept to her routine of small acts of service, thoughtful gestures, but Luca began to notice more than just the effort. He noticed her patience. She didn’t push, didn’t ask for more than he was willing to give, and that, strangely, made him want to give something back. One afternoon, Luca was in the estate’s workshop, repairing an old clock his father had once used as a teaching tool, he never threw it away as it held memories to his dad. He preferred quiet when working, so when Elsa appeared in the doorway, he almost told her to leave. But she didn’t step inside immediately. “I used to hate that clock,” she said softly, smiling faintly. Luca paused, glancing up. “Yeah? Why?” “Because it never stopped ticking. Even at night. I remember thinking, ‘How can anyone sleep with that sound in their head?’” Luca chuckled under his breath.

  • CHAPTER 181

    The estate had grown accustomed to Elsa’s quiet presence. She moved like someone who didn’t want to disturb the air itself, careful and deliberate, her footsteps soft and her voice lower than usual. Yet, every day she tried—small gestures that didn’t ask for much but quietly asked to be seen. One morning, Amelia stepped into the garden to find Elsa kneeling by the rose bushes, her hands gloved and covered in soil. “You don’t have to do that,” Amelia said gently. Elsa smiled faintly, brushing dirt off her knee. “The gardeners take care of it, I know. But I wanted to plant something new. Roses grow deep roots, they’re resilient.” Amelia tilted her head. “Trying to send a message?” “Maybe,” Elsa admitted, her eyes distant. “When you’ve lived your life afraid to plant anything permanent, putting something in the ground feels like hope.” Amelia crouched down beside her. “You’re trying.” “Yes.” Elsa hesitated. “But I can’t tell if Luca even sees it.” “He sees everything

  • CHAPTER 180

    Luca stood there, leaning against the doorway, arms crossed. “You don’t have to do that. The staff handles breakfast.” “I know,” she said, her hands trembling slightly as she set a pancake on a plate. “But I wanted to make something… for you. Something I haven’t done in a very long time.” He glanced at the table—three plates set, one clearly meant for Dorian. “You’re wasting your time if you think he’ll join you,” Luca said flatly. Her face fell, but she nodded. “I thought… maybe he’d come around.” Luca stepped closer, his voice soft but edged. “You left him to rot in that quarry. You think pancakes will fix that?” She flinched but held his gaze. “No… I don’t think anything can fix that. I’m not asking for forgiveness overnight. I just want a chance to show I’m not the same woman I was.” Luca looked at her for a long moment, then sat down. “Fine. Let’s see what twenty years of regret tastes like.” It was harsh, but she didn’t react, only placed a plate in front of him a

  • CHAPTER 179

    The estate felt heavier with Elsa’s presence, not hostile, just weighted with the kind of silence that carried old memories. Luca sat at the edge of the balcony that evening, his elbows resting on his knees. Amelia joined him quietly, sitting beside him without speaking. She knew his thoughts were tangled; he’d barely spoken since Elsa had shown up. “Say it,” Amelia said softly. Luca glanced at her. “Say what?” “That you don’t know whether to hug her or tell her to leave.” A faint smile tugged at his lips. “You read me too well.” The next morning, Luca walked into the kitchen to find Elsa at the counter, wearing an apron, quietly chopping vegetables. The scent of onions and garlic filled the air. She looked up and froze, a knife in one hand. “I… thought I’d make breakfast. Something you used to like when you were little. Do you remember spinach frittatas?” Luca didn’t answer right away. “I don’t remember much from back then.” Her shoulders slumped slightly, but she

  • CHAPTER 178

    The night air carried a rare stillness as Luca held Amelia on the balcony. The moon hung low, casting silver over the gardens below, where security lights traced the outlines of a home that had survived too many storms. But peace never lingered long in the Ashford bloodline. **** The Next Morning Wilson’s voice came quietly over the intercom. “Sir… you have a visitor. She says her name is Elsa Salvador.” Luca stiffened. Amelia, brushing her hair by the window, turned to look at him. “Your mother?” He didn’t answer immediately. The word mother still felt strange in connection to her—an echo of something he had never truly known. He rose from the chair, his expression neutral, but inside his pulse quickened. “Let her in,” he said finally, voice controlled. Elsa stood in the marble foyer, her frame delicate yet upright, wearing a simple cream dress as if shedding her life of opulence. Her eyes sought him instantly, a blend of awe and guilt. “Luca…” she whispered, the n
