"Find the culprit no matter what, and bring him before me!" shouted the hooded figure, the leader of the place. He could not accept that the ritual sacrifice of a maiden’s blood for the Dark Prince would end in failure.

Just as the hooded figure barked the order, the Executioner collapsed, a gaping hole in his forehead. Fresh blood flowed out, soaking the altar where the offering was to take place.

The leader’s fury over the failed sacrifice to the Dark Prince grew even greater—especially since the Executioner’s fall had spilled blood into the ceremonial vessel meant to collect the offering. The vessel could not be tainted with any other blood besides that of the victims, and so the ritual for the day was doomed.

Chaos erupted in the chamber. Over a hundred members of the cult began moving, searching for and trying to identify any unfamiliar intruder among them.

Meanwhile, Fang An could not make any move yet. If he opened the heavy stone door

Thirty soldiers immediately stormed through the palace gates, fanning out in search of Duke Tsu Yun."Fang An, A Long, let’s head to the hall!" Sun Zu urged.Fang An and A Long nodded, following close behind him.Upon arriving at the hall, Sun Zu’s assumption proved wrong—Duke Tsu Yun was still there. He had stayed put, convinced that his soldiers would be able to kill Sun Zu.Shock flashed across his face as if he were seeing a ghost in broad daylight. But he quickly masked it with a sudden display of politeness."Welcome, Lord Advisor. Why did you not send word that you were coming to Luman Province?""Spare me your courtesy, Tsu Yun. All your crimes have been exposed!" Sun Zu barked."What crimes does Your Excellency mean? I do not understand at all," Tsu Yun replied, feigning innocence."Shall I summon all the soldiers to testify against you, Tsu Yun? If you cooperate and are willing to testify against Prime

  • Surrender or Die

"I would never dare to lie, My Lord. What I saw earlier was Lord Sun Zu with two young men, and one of them had hair as white as snow."Duke Tsu Yun furrowed his brow, wondering what business Sun Zu had in Luman Province.Deep inside, he feared that the same kind of report made against him to Emperor Siu Wen nearly a year ago might happen again. Fortunately, back then Prime Minister Sung Wei was the one ordered to investigate, allowing him to escape punishment."Did he head this way?""It doesn’t seem so, My Lord. I just passed him by.""We can’t be sure what’s on his mind. Deploy the soldiers and monitor his movements. Remember, don’t get caught! But if necessary, kill Sun Zu’s advisor to erase the trail!" Duke Tsu Yun ordered."At once, My Lord," the official replied, bowing respectfully.Duke Tsu Yun could not feel at ease with Sun Zu’s sudden appearance in Luman Province. Even though it was rumored that the

  • Confession

The four soldiers looked startled as they were forced awake from their unconsciousness. Cold water streamed down their faces, jolting their awareness back.Still in shock, they struggled against the tight ropes binding them. Even the smallest movement was impossible. They hung their heads in fear—afraid of suffering the same fate as one of their comrades who had already been killed.Fang An and Sun Zu glared at them with eyes so sharp it was as if they meant to skin them alive. That piercing stare made the soldiers tremble even more, their fear plain to see."Strange," Fang An said. "As soldiers of the Tong Dynasty, you should know exactly who you’re dealing with. Even Duke Tsu Yun wouldn’t dare face Elder Sun Zu directly." Fang An glanced briefly toward Sun Zu.Hearing Sun Zu’s name from the white-haired young man, the four soldiers instinctively turned to look at him. Their minds raced—they had indeed heard that name before. It didn’t take long for them to realize that the old man s

  • Greedy Soldiers

A Long and Sun Zu were fast asleep, so neither of them realized that someone had entered their room. The two figures who slipped inside glanced around. The dim light made it harder to see clearly, but once their eyes fixed on Fang An, they both nodded in unison, signaling that he was the one they were looking for.One of them crept toward Fang An, moving so quietly that not a sound could be heard. To an ordinary person, their footsteps would have been silent. But to a martial artist like Fang An, the sound of their steps thudded in his ears as if knocking on a drum. When the man was beside Fang An, he slowly bent down and began feeling around his waist for something."Is this coin pouch what you’re looking for, soldier?" Fang An said suddenly, holding it up in his right hand. The intruder froze in shock and tried to stand, but Fang An’s left hand was already gripping his neck.Aaakkh!Crack! The sound of a breaking neck wasn’t loud, but it was enough to wake A Long and Sun Zu from the

  • Uninvited Guests

“If I’m the one paying, is that not allowed?” Fang An retorted. The innkeeper was startled and quickly tried to stop Fang An from paying the tax that he himself owed.“Don’t, Sir. Just let them tear this inn down. I can’t bear the situation in this province anymore—it’s been getting quieter by the day.”Fang An smiled at the innkeeper.“I understand the situation, Uncle. Soon, this province will be bustling again.”The innkeeper frowned in confusion. He had no idea why Fang An spoke with such certainty.“He owes three silver coins. If you can pay it, pay it now!” one soldier said with a mocking tone.“Is that all?” Fang An pulled out his money pouch filled with dozens of gold coins. He took out one gold coin and handed it to the soldier.“Keep the change, Uncle,” Fang An added. The two soldiers were taken aback. The young man before them wore shabby clothes, yet he casually handed over a gold coin. They had not expected that someone who looked like an ordinary commoner would have such

  • Extortion

Sidharta deliberately did not take the two of them straight to the provincial palace, instead choosing to stay at an inn for the night.Inside the inn room, the three of them took a short rest, easing the stiffness in their muscles after the long journey on horseback. After that, they left the inn to stroll around and enjoy the late afternoon atmosphere. As usual, dining places were the best source of gathering as much information as possible. A modest yet busy eatery became their destination—to fill their stomachs while also gathering intelligence.Of the eight tables inside, only one remained unoccupied. They quickly sat at the empty table before another customer could take it.After the server noted down their orders, Fang An let his gaze wander around the room, his ears sharply tuned for any news that might be overheard. In the same manner, A Long and Sidharta also kept their senses alert, trying to catch even the smallest piece of information that could help them understand the s
