Jack pulled up in front of the restaurant, smoothly parking his Porsche in the VIP section. As he shifted the car into park, Emma unbuckled her seatbelt and stepped out, stretching.

Heather, on the other hand, hesitated. As soon as Jack walked around to her side of the car, she let out a dramatic gasp and grabbed her ankle.

"Ow! I think I twisted it," she whined, gripping the door handle as if she could barely stand. She looked up at Jack expectantly, her eyes wide with feigned innocence.

Jack raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. "Is that so?"

Heather nodded quickly, her hand still on her ankle. "Yeah, I must've stepped wrong when I got out." She bit her lip, waiting for Jack to offer his arm or maybe even carry her inside.

Instead, Jack turned toward the entrance and waved down a restaurant waiter.

"You. Help her inside," he ordered flatly.

The waiter, a young man in a neatly pressed uniform, hurried over. "Of course, sir. Would you like me to bring a wheelchair?"

They were here for the same thing—and they weren’t here to relax. But before he could dig deeper—figuratively or literally—a familiar nasal voice cut through the air.“Hey! Jack Sullivan had faced bullets, betrayal, and backroom ambushes. He’d made city kings kneel, snapped spines of mobsters with a glance—but none of that prepared him for being locked in a bedroom by his mother.“Try for a baby,” she’d said with a wink.Try not to die from embarrassment—Jack had thought instead.Lisa sat at the far end of the bed, fidgeting with the hem of her blouse, cheeks redder than a fire alarm. “I didn’t think… I didn’t mean for things to spiral like that,” she whispered, avoiding his gaze.Jack shrugged, hands behind his head as he leaned back. “That’s just my mom’s temper. Explosive as a volcano, but she means well.”Lisa peeked up. “So… the divorce?”He glanced at her, eyes calm. “Off the table.”A soft silence filled the room, but it wasn’t as tense as before.Lisa’s heart fluttered, just a little.
