CHAPTER 50: JUDGEMENT OF THE WATCHERS

The golden light descended from the heavens.

It was brighter than the sun.

Brighter than the stars.

Even the World Tree bowed beneath its radiance.

Kael instinctively shielded his eyes.

The Hollow King, however, remained standing.

His expression was calm.

Almost... resigned.

“You came sooner than I expected.”

The light gathered into seven towering figures.

Each was cloaked in robes woven from living starlight.

Their faces were hidden behind golden masks.

Their presence alone made the First Realm tremble.

Kael felt his soul grow heavy.

These beings were unlike anything he had ever encountered.

Not even the Seven Sovereigns possessed such overwhelming authority.

One of the figures stepped forward.

Its voice echoed through every branch of the World Tree.

“Hollow King.”

“Your exile has ended.”

The Hollow King smiled faintly.

“No.”

“It has only begun.”

Kael looked from the Watchers to the Hollow King.

“You know each other.”

One of the Watchers turned toward him.

“We created him.”

Silence.

Kael’s heart skipped.

“What?”

The tallest Watcher slowly removed its golden mask.

Beneath it was neither an old man nor a woman.

Its face constantly shifted.

Young.

Old.

Male.

Female.

As though it carried countless lives within one being.

“We are the First Watchers.”

“The caretakers of creation.”

“When the World Tree was young...”

“We created guardians.”

The Watcher looked toward the Hollow King.

“He was the greatest among them.”

The Hollow King lowered his head.

“I once believed your laws were justice.”

The Second Watcher raised a hand.

The air rippled.

A memory unfolded before Kael.

Millions of years ago...

The First Realm flourished.

The Hollow King stood proudly beneath the World Tree, defending newborn worlds from cosmic disasters.

He smiled.

He laughed.

He inspired hope.

Then...

Elyria appeared.

Kael recognised her immediately.

The woman whose existence had been erased.

The memory continued.

The Hollow King and Elyria secretly nurtured dying worlds that the Watchers had declared beyond saving.

Against all expectations...

Those worlds recovered.

Life blossomed again.

The Hollow King looked at the Watchers.

“Mercy saved what judgement abandoned.”

The Third Watcher answered coldly.

“Mercy also delayed necessary endings.”

Kael frowned.

“You destroyed worlds...”

“...because they were weak?”

The Fourth Watcher looked directly at him.

“No.”

“We ended worlds whose corruption threatened every other branch.”

The Hollow King shook his head.

“You never even tried to heal them.”

“We protected the greater whole.”

“You abandoned the innocent!”

The World Tree shook violently.

The argument echoed across creation itself.

Kael realised something.

Neither side was completely wrong.

Neither side was completely right.

The Fifth Watcher turned toward Kael.

“You carry six inheritances.”

“You stand where no mortal has stood.”

Another Watcher spoke.

“You must decide.”

Kael frowned.

“Decide what?”

The tallest Watcher raised one hand.

Immediately, two visions appeared before him.

The first...

The Hollow King succeeded.

He united every world into one vast empire.

The Void was defeated.

But freedom disappeared.

Every soul lived under one eternal ruler.

No wars.

No hunger.

No choice.

The second vision...

The Watchers defeated the Hollow King.

The worlds remained free.

But the Void continued consuming one realm after another.

Countless civilisations vanished.

Kael stared in horror.

“These can’t be the only futures.”

The Seventh Watcher replied,

“They are the most likely.”

The Hollow King looked at Kael.

“This is why I fight.”

Kael closed his eyes.

The six inheritances resonated together.

Guardian’s Dominion.

Sovereign’s Truth.

Heart of the Sovereign.

Storm Crown.

And the powers of the earlier Sovereigns.

For several moments...

He said nothing.

Finally, he opened his eyes.

“No.”

The Watchers became silent.

The Hollow King looked at him curiously.

“No?”

Kael stepped forward.

“I reject both futures.”

The World Tree suddenly shone brighter.

The Watchers frowned.

“The future cannot simply be rejected.”

Kael smiled.

“My father has taught me something with his sacrifice.”

“A true king doesn’t choose between two impossible paths.”

“He creates a third.”

The Hollow King’s eyes widened.

For the first time in countless ages...

He laughed.

A genuine laugh.

“So...”

“Aetherion truly raised an extraordinary son.”

Suddenly...

A violent tremor shook the First Realm.

A massive crack spread through the roots of the World Tree.

The silver rivers in the sky turned black.

The Watchers immediately looked upward.

Their calm expressions vanished.

The tallest Watcher whispered,

“It has found us.”

A gigantic claw, darker than the emptiness between stars, tore through reality.

It was not the Hollow King.

It was not the Abyss.

It was something infinitely older.

The Void had finally reached the First Realm.

The World Tree screamed.

Branches holding entire worlds began breaking away.

The Hollow King drew a blade of black light.

The Watchers summoned spears of living stars.

Kael gripped the Blood Sovereign Blade.

For the first time...

Enemies became allies.

Because before them stood the true enemy of all creation.

And its arrival marked the beginning of the Final War.
