Kael froze immediately; the demon landed right in front of him. He felt glued to a spot. Could barely move.

The stench of sulphur filled the air as the creature landed. Its claws dug into the earth with a hiss, cracking the cobblestones beneath it.

The demon was tall—taller than any man Kael had ever seen—with skin like obsidian wrapped in shifting shadows. Its ribs pulsed red through the gaps in its armour of bone and ash. Fire licked around its horns, and its eyes—two molten pits—locked directly onto him.

Kael's gaze was fixed on the demon. Anticipating and wondering what it was going to do.

“Kael,” Nira whispered beside him, her grip on his wrist tightening. “Don’t move.”

The demon stepped forward. Its movements were fluid, almost human, but wrong in the way it tilted its head, in the way it seemed to slide across the earth without truly touching it.

“You bear the power of the most powerful Swordman, but where is it?" The demon growled, its voice scraping across the world

The next morning, Kael awoke with the weight of her eyes still on him—those curious, persistent eyes of the girl from the martial guild. She had said nothing else after he ran, but he felt her presence in every corner of the stables since. Like she had been trying to stalk him everyove he takes. She knew. Somehow, she saw past the dirt, the silence, the robe that hid what he was. She was not suppose to see it. But she did and now she won't stop bothering him. And that made her dangerous.Kael was feeding one of the mares when the stable door creaked open, and the wind rushed in. He didn’t have to turn to know who had arrived. Her steps were light, too measured to belong to a boy like Jarek. She came up behind him quietly, waiting.“I said stay away from me,” Kael muttered, not bothering to face her.“I heard you,” she replied. “I just don’t care.”Kael turned sharply, his jaw clenched. “Do you have any idea what could happen if you—”“If I what? Tell someone what I saw?” Her arms

The morning air was cold, sharp enough to bite at the skin, and Kael’s breath fogged as he trudged toward the stables. Master Harond's words echoed in his ears. " Don't try to stand out. Don't try to take revenge. And don't train." Those were the rules he needed to abide with. The rules that was going to keep him safe and away from danger. But which danger?Kael's mind went back to the Sowrdman who wanted to fight Harond. Except that he was not trying to fight Harond. He was trying to kill him. Kael tilted his head and his gaze locked with hers. Breathtaking. Her skin was glowing and she had this eyes that showed either love or attraction. Kael dismissed the thought. Her dressing showed that she was a high born. The last thing he needed was to get entangled in another problem. He has more than enough on my plate at the moment. Kael new robe—gray, coarse, and slightly too big—hung on him like a burden. The pay token clinked softly in his pocket, the sound a constant reminder of

Silence gripped the throne room like a vice.Kael stood frozen beside Harond, still clutching his sleeve as though it were the only thing anchoring him to the earth. His heart pounded loudly in his ears, drowning out the heavy breath of Dareth still held in place by the throne’s ancient seal. The king's ultimatum echoed in the air like a final drumbeat of war: Kael lives, but he must be silenced.Harond's jaw tightened. His eyes scanned the faces of the council—some aghast, some nodding in reluctant agreement, and others, like Dareth’s supporters, brimming with quiet fury. Then his gaze drifted to the boy by his side, whose wide eyes brimmed with confusion and fear. Harond knew this was no victory. This was a sentence dressed in mercy’s robes.“I accept the condition, Your Majesty,” Harond said finally, voice even and crisp. “Kael will not train. He will not draw a blade. He will not even hold a wooden staff without your consent. I will ensure it.”The seal around Dareth crackled aga

Kael slowly hid behind Harond, whose gaze was locked on Dareth for a fight. The room was in a frenzy mode until King Almond raised his hands up."What have we all decided to do with the boy?" He asked after they were all silent. The most powerful mage in the room stood up. Everyone's gaze was locked on her. "We all know what he is capable of. But I want to believe I have managed to do the right thing, and for now, Kael is not a threat to anyone. But he killed Rand nonetheless."Another swordmaster stood up, looking at Dareth. "I believe this is a fight between Dareth and Kael. We were there when Dareth drew his sword at him. The boy only defended himself." Master Nikoklause said, looking at Dareth, who was fuming with anger."Is there something we didn't know about the death of the former, Swordmaster?" one of the elders asked again. The throne room was silent, with many of them looking at Dareth and back at the king for an explanation. "What are you asking of me? That I killed my bro

The silence in the throne room was suffocating.Every elder, every mage, and every knight stared at Master Harond with expressions ranging from disbelief to fury. The king’s eyes widened at the declaration, his hand tightening on the gold-wrought armrest of his throne. Elira gasped audibly, while Dareth—face red and trembling—looked as if he’d just been slapped."You... what did you say?" The king finally spoke, his voice low but sharp enough to slice through the tension."I said I am adopting Kael as my son," Harond repeated firmly, stepping forward so that he stood between Kael and the throne. "He has no family. He needs guidance, not chains. I will take responsibility for him.""You don’t have the authority to make that decision unilaterally!" Dareth barked, his voice laced with fury. "He is mine! A danger to us all! You know what he is capable of, Harond!"Kael’s eyes flicked between them, confusion storming inside him. Relic? Blood? Danger? The words danced like ghosts around his

"Who is going to have me killed? I want to go back home. I want to go back to my father because it is clear that I am not wanted here." Kael said, looking at Master Harond. "I am sorry, Kid, but you don't have any family. I am your only family." Master Harond said, looking at his face. "Are you saying I am an orphan? Do you actually expect me to believe that?" Kael said with tears almost spilling from his face. "I am going to be your father from now on, and I am going to take care of you. All you need to do is ask." Kael staggered backward. He wasn't sure how he was supposed to feel. One minute he was inside a tube, and the next he was hearing the most shocking news of his life. "Can you be truthful with me for once, Master Harond? Are you hiding anything from me?" Kael asked. There was a brief moment of silence. "This is for your own good, Kael. You were in pain before all of this. You wanted blood, and you don't mind drenching everyone you loved in it. You took a life. Your cous

(After two weeks) Kael wakes up in an icy tube. He could feel his body freezing, and when he looked through the tube, he saw many others who were imprisoned just like him. "Let me out of here!" Kael shouted, hitting the tube until it cracked. He landed on the floor gasping for air. "Where the hell am I?" He said slowly, looking at himself. One of the guards heard a loud crack and rushed into the cold room. He saw that Kael was freed and immediately retraced his steps back. "I am not here to hurt you. But can you please go back to being asleep? The king is going to kill me if he knows that you are finally awake." Kael looked at the guard and didn't know what to say. "I am not going to hurt you, but you need to tell me why I am here. Why was I imprisoned, and how long have I been like this?" The guard looked at him again and didn't understand what was going on. Not many of them were there when Kae fought the king's champion and killed him. "You have been gone for a week or

Kael’s blade dripped crimson onto the marble floor, the body of the king’s champion slumped in a broken heap behind him. The corridor, once regal, now smelled of scorched stone, sweat, and blood. Silence echoed through the shattered hall as Kael turned his burning gaze on King Almond. “I gave you everything!” the king roared, but the tremble in his voice betrayed his fear. “You were supposed to be my weapon, my sword against the rising chaos—not the storm itself!" “You only helped me because you felt pity for me,” Kael said coldly. “And now, I’m breaking every one.” With a roar, Kael surged forward, Hakana spiraling around him like a dark cyclone. The air bent, and stone cracked beneath his feet. King Almond raised a warding hand, but he wasn’t fast enough. Kael’s sword slashed through the air, aimed for the king’s throat— A sudden pulse of blue light exploded in the hall. Kael’s body locked mid-motion, suspended in the air as though invisible hands clutched him. He snarled,
