The silence that followed the demon’s departure was deafening. It was not the silence of peace but of a breath held too long, a moment too taut to be natural.

Smoke curled in the air like dying whispers, and the ground where the demon had stood cracked and smouldered. And at that moment, everyone held their breath.

No one talked.

They all stood still, staring at each other's faces.

Kael lay on the ground, his chest heaving, his limbs twitching from the remnants of energy that still surged within him. The glowing symbols across his skin had begun to fade, leaving behind only a soft heat beneath the surface.

Master Harond stood still, eyes narrowed, his sword still raised. Blood dripped from the wound on his hand, but he didn’t seem to notice. His gaze was fixed on the space the demon had vanished from, as if expecting it to reappear at any moment.

King Almond moved slowly from the rear, regal and unwavering, though his eyes betrayed the weight of history long buried. “So it has begun a

The moment Kael got into the throne room, they all kept quiet. He could see the harsh look on some of their faces. And most of all Dareth who had claimed to be his uncle." Why am I here?" Kael said to the king who shifted uneasily in his chair." Is this him?" Gabriel asked staring at Kael and wondering how a teenage boy could carry the burden of the whole kingdom." And you had his Hakana locked?" Gabriel said with anger staring back at King Almond. " You do know this boy is our only hope of survival?"The throne room went into a frenzy mode again. Some of the elders siding with Gabriel while the others said they were giving too much praise to young Kael." What about Dareth? Are you saying he is useless as the Swordmaster?" One of the mages asked and everyone looked at Dareth whose gaze was fixed on Kael." If I remembered vividly, the demon didn't come for him. Instead he came for Kael. So, why should I bother about a full grown man when we should be worried about a boy who could

Meanwhile, Kael was lost in his own world. Following the sound of the one who called him."Where are you?" Kael shouted as he ventured into the wilderness. His senses were on high alert as he walked. He could have sworn he had trained in this very forest he was walking, but everything felt strange, foreign to him."Kael...Kael..." the voice called out again.Kael stopped abruptly, not sure of where to turn. The road was now divided into three parts. "Where to now?" he asked himself with his gaze fixed on the paths.Kael heard the rustle of leaves behind him, and he turned. "Who is that?!" he yelled, only to turn and see a man standing in front of him."Who are you?" Kael asked, squeezing his eyebrows."Wrong question, kid." The old man, who could barely stand without the aid of his walking stick, replied. "Not who I am, but who are you?""Did you call me out here?" Kael asked, still looking back."I didn't, but your future did." The old man replied again. His gaze lingered on Kael. "Y

The throne room was in total silence. Each swordsman, mage, and conjurer of different creatures is all silent.Nira's father walked out of his seat. "I believe we all have seen what happened," he said, slowly looking at their faces."This is not the time the Earth Realm will be fighting demons and monsters."The throne room went into a frenzy mode with lots of them talking at once."Silence!" the king said in annoyance. "If you have anything to say, then you are going to wait your turn!"The room was silent once more."We all know how we managed to put the rebel demons in their place. This was possible with just one person whose Hakana was feared in the whole of the kingdom, and now he is dead." Gabriel said in anger. Many of the elders' gazes darted toward Dareth, who was silent. "What do we do now? I think we can either decide what we do next or we perish when the demons come knocking at our door."Gabriel said nothing but simply went back to his seat. The throne room was silent onc

It was like Master Harond was asking for the impossible.Kael’s breath came slow and uncertain as he closed his eyes. The flickering candlelight in Master Harond’s chamber cast shadows across the stone walls. But here, in the stillness, Kael heard only the sound of his own heartbeat — steady, unsure, but present.“Focus on the space between your breaths,” Harond said quietly, pacing behind him. “That is where your Hakana lives.”Kael didn’t respond. He could feel his limbs trembling slightly, not from fear — or at least, not entirely — but from anticipation. Deep within his chest, where moments ago that strange surge of power had blossomed, there was now a faint hum. A distant pull, as if something ancient and bound in chains was slowly turning to meet him.“Master,” Kael said softly. “What is Hakana?”There was a pause. Harond’s footsteps stopped. “It’s more than power. More than magic or energy. It is the essence of your lineage — the spiritual force that binds your soul to your swo

Kael froze immediately; the demon landed right in front of him. He felt glued to a spot. Could barely move. The stench of sulphur filled the air as the creature landed. Its claws dug into the earth with a hiss, cracking the cobblestones beneath it. The demon was tall—taller than any man Kael had ever seen—with skin like obsidian wrapped in shifting shadows. Its ribs pulsed red through the gaps in its armour of bone and ash. Fire licked around its horns, and its eyes—two molten pits—locked directly onto him. Kael's gaze was fixed on the demon. Anticipating and wondering what it was going to do. “Kael,” Nira whispered beside him, her grip on his wrist tightening. “Don’t move.” The demon stepped forward. Its movements were fluid, almost human, but wrong in the way it tilted its head, in the way it seemed to slide across the earth without truly touching it. “You bear the power of the most powerful Swordman, but where is it?" The demon growled, its voice scraping across the world
