Cynthia's face hardened with determination. "I'll post guards outside his door around the clock. No one will get near him without my express permission."

"Good," Keith said. "But remember – if you don't identify and stop the person responsible, they'll simply wait for another opportunity. You need to find out who's trying to kill your father, or this will never end."

"I know," Cynthia said quietly. "Believe me, I know."

She walked over to her father's bedside and gently took his hand. "Don't worry, Father. I'm going to find whoever did this to you, and I'm going to make sure they never hurt anyone again."

"When will you send the remedy?" she asked Keith without turning around.

"I can have it delivered within two days," Keith replied.

"Two days," Cynthia repeated. "Alright. And Keith? Thank you. Truly. If you hadn't discovered this, we might have lost him."
