Chapter 28

The room was silent for a few minutes. I don't want to believe Park was a burden. He was doing his best to have me protected. “ I think you need to ease up a little, Leo. Park was just trying to protect me. I am sure he did it out of his will to make sure nothing happened to me. Isn't that right, Park?”

He looked at me, and I gave him a gaze that meant to tell him to plead. “ I was only trying to look out for Mr Hayes. I must have gone too far.” Park said, looking at Leo, whose face was still showing how pissed he was.

“ We don't need any distractions right now. We need to hit Nathan and his father when things are still hot. All of these aren't school jokes anymore. It is going to become real, and this, your mistake with the Dean, might be the one thing that would ignite the spark.” Leo coughed again walking to his seat.

“ You both need to be careful now, Master Hayes. If we are going to win this, then we need to be smart about our moves.”

“ Thanks, Leo. I am sure I wou

Chapter 197 I still don't know what I saw, and I can't explain how I was able to see the past. Everything felt unreal. “How do you get to know all of this?” I asked, staring at Park, who was now relaxed. “Do you think I spent my days relaxing after I left you?” he replied, staring at me. “What do you mean?” “I went into intensive research. I needed to know more about the powers we have. I needed to know if we are a threat to the world or not. I need to be sure there were no side effects.” Park said, staring at me. “Is there?” I looked at him. My heart was beating steadily, like I was expecting my death sentence. Zee was also concentrating as her eyes darted back and forth between the two of us. “Why don't we talk outside?” Park finally said, getting to his feet. His eyebrows were slightly arched, and I knew there was something he was not telling me.Maybe he didn't want to tell because Zee was there, but I believe he was going to let me in very soon. “Give us some time. We wi

Chapter 196The sound of the vault door slamming shut echoed through the chamber like a warning bell—loud, final, and terrifying. Zee jumped, her eyes wide with panic, but Park didn’t flinch. He just stared at the sealed entrance, his jaw clenched as if he had expected it.“Park?” I asked, stepping toward him. “What the hell was that?”He didn’t answer. Instead, he turned back to the obsidian slab, his hand hovering above the glowing triangles as if he were trying to feel something invisible.Zee’s voice trembled. “Are we trapped?”“No,” Park muttered, still not looking at her—or at me. “Not trapped. Just… locked in until the vault finishes reading him.”“Reading me?” I echoed. “What does that mean?”He finally turned to face me, and for the first time in years, I saw genuine fear etched into his features.“This place is alive,” he said quietly. “Not in the way you think. It’s not AI, it’s older than that. This vault was built by the first of your kind—Originals who survived the last

Chapter 195I knew what I was asking of Park. A part of me feels bad about it, but I don't have any choice. He was the only person I knew I could ask for help. With him right beside me, I know we could move mountains. All I needed was for him to say the single words I have been dying to hear him say all day. I held her small frame in my arms for a moment longer than I should have. Her innocence clashed violently with the storm brewing in my mind. Park’s little sister—bright-eyed, full of life—deserved peace. Not the kind of horror I was about to drag her brother into again.“Wow,” she whispered, stepping back with a grin. “You look like you’ve been through a war.”I gave her a smile. “Something like that.”“She doesn’t know anything,” Park said quickly, his tone protective. “And I intend to keep it that way.”Zee gave me a long look but said nothing. She knew what I was thinking—what I was about to ask Park would risk that bright smile ever gracing this room again. And still, I co

Chapter 194Park looked at me and was surprised. “What are you doing here, Adrian?” he asked, flipping his eyelid up. I knew he was happy to see me, but at the same time, he knew I was not coming to pay him a visit. “Trouble,” he said slowly, asking me to take a seat. His gaze met with Zee's for a bit. “You two made up already?” Zee looked at him and smiled, shaking her head for a bit. “Why are you here, Adrian?” Park asked as he walked towards his shelf to grab a bottle of drink. “Want some?” “No, water is fine,” I said immediately. “You?” I looked at Zee, who nodded, asking for water also.“I saw what you did, Adrian. I must say, I am proud of you.” Park said, looking back as he added some ice cubes to the wine he wanted to drink. “That is why I am here, Park. I managed to have Edwin locked up, but I don't think I was able to stop what was going on.” I said slowly. “I thought all of this was over.” “You thought?” Park looked at me and smirked. “Do you know why I left?” “Why?”

Chapter 193The knife was still warm in my grip, slick with blood. I wasn’t shaking anymore. I was past fear. Past doubt. Past everything, really. This man had come into my home to end me, and instead, he was the one bleeding out on my rug, whispering about world domination and the end of humanity like it was just a normal thing.I stepped forward again, ready to push harder, make him break—really break. “Are you daring me?” I asked, my voice low and dangerous. The light caught the edge of the blade as I tilted it. One more word. That was all it was going to take. But the word never came. The window shattered.A sharp crack split the air, piercing through the tension like a gunshot—because it was one. A red mist burst from the side of the man's skull before I even registered the sound fully. His body jerked once, then collapsed backward like a puppet with its strings cut.I froze. Everything in me turned to ice.“ZEE!” I shouted instinctively, dropping low, my heart hammering as glass

Chapter 192It was all exhausting for me. Like I was starting another war entirely, and this time around, I was not even sure if I was going to make it out of it alive. That moment when you felt it was over, you felt like you had done enough for humanity to want a space of peace and sanity, but fate managed to throw another chaos into your perfect world. I stared at him—hard. His words weren’t just cryptic; they were nuclear. Every nerve in my body was screaming for answers, and this bastard sat there bleeding on my rug like he was reading a bedtime story.“What the hell do you mean by perfected?” I growled, gripping his shirt collar and yanking him upward. His head lolled forward, blood trailing from his mouth. “You really don’t know?” he muttered, the words slurred but deliberate. “God, that makes this even better.”“Start talking,” I snapped. “Right now.”“Do you honestly think you were the strongest, the best?” He asked, staring at my face. “How many of us are out there?” I dro
