Chapter 7: The Frenzy Begins

The moment Tessa and I stepped onto the Northvale University campus together, the atmosphere shifted.

It was subtle at first—a few stealing glances and whispered conversations—but within minutes, the school was buzzing. All the students were now trooping out of classes and departments to catch a glimpse of what was going on.

Tessa Davenport, the golden girl of Northvale, was walking beside me. Not just walking—laughing, talking, looking completely at ease.

I felt the unbelievable stare of all the students, and every hushed conversation as we made our way through the courtyard. It was exactly what I wanted.

Whispers spread like wildfire.

"Tessa and… Adrian Hayes?"

"Is this a joke?"

“ I can't believe Tessa will leave Nathan to date a fellow like Adrian. Did she believe he was rich?”

"There’s no way she’s actually with him."

People gawked as if they couldn’t believe what they were seeing. The scholarship nobody, the guy everyone used to push around, was now arm-in-arm with one of the most elite students in Northvale.

Nathan Sterling was standing with his usual group near the fountain when we passed by. His jaw tightened, his fingers clenched into a fist at his side.

Perfect.

I didn’t even look his way at first. Instead, I smirked down at Sophia, making sure my voice carried. We had a deal and I was going to use it to the fullest.

“You know,” I said casually, “I never realized Northvale had so many people obsessed with our business.”

Tessa chuckled. “Let them watch. I’ve always loved an audience.”

She reached out and straightened the lapel of my jacket—just a small touch, but it sent a message. One that didn’t go unnoticed.

Nathan's face darkened. His friends—especially the ones who had laughed at me before—exchanged uneasy glances. They knew this wasn’t just a random coincidence.

This was a statement.

A power shift.

And Nathan hated it.

Sophia stood a few feet away, clutching her designer purse with a death grip. Her expression twisted in disbelief, eyes flicking between me and Tessa.

I could practically hear her thoughts. I let out a knowing smirk seeing the turmoil right inside of her.

How? How was the guy she had humiliated now standing beside someone like Tessa? How was I the one who looked untouchable?

Nathan took a step forward, forcing a smile. “Tessa! I didn’t know you and Adrian were… close.” He said walking towards us.

Tessa tilted her head, amusement dancing in her green eyes. “Oh, we’re very close,” she said in a loving manner that made me believe she meant every word for a bit.

But damn!

Tessa was good at acting.

Nathan exhaled sharply. “Tessa.” His voice was low, controlled—but I could hear the underlying anger. “Can I talk to you?”

Sophia’s lips curled into a slow smile. “Hmm. No, I don’t think so.”

Nathan's nostrils flared. “What the hell are you doing?”

She arched an eyebrow. “Walking with Adrian. Having a conversation. Is that a crime? The last time I checked, we are no longer an item and I am free to date anyone I want.”

Sophia cut in quickly. “Nathan just means—this isn’t like you, Sophia. Hanging out with him?” She let out a fake little laugh. “I mean, I know you’re a nice person and all, but isn't Adrian”

Tessa’s smile vanished. “Are you saying Adrian isn’t worth my time?”

Sophia hesitated. “No! I mean… It’s just surprising.”

Tessa's gaze turned ice-cold. “Surprising that someone with ambition, intelligence, and charm is standing next to me? Or surprising that someone you once called a ‘nobody’ is proving you wrong?”

Sophia's face paled.

Nathan took a step closer, his voice dropping dangerously. “I don’t know what game you’re playing, but don’t drag her into it.”

Finally, I looked at him. Really looked at him.

Nathan Sterling—the guy who had humiliated me, taken everything I ever wanted, and treated me like I was dirt beneath his shoes—was jealous.

I let my lips curl into an easy, confident smile.

“I didn’t drag Tessa anywhere,” I said coolly. “She made her own choice.”

Nathan's jaw clenched. He was trying to keep his composure, but I could see the cracks forming. His control over this school, over the social hierarchy, was slipping.

And he knew it.

“Enjoy your little moment,” he muttered. “It won’t last.”

Tessa scoffed. “You sound nervous, Nathan.”

Nathan ignored her, his eyes locked on me. For the first time, there was no arrogance in his stare. Just barely concealed fury.

I patted his shoulder as I walked past. “See you around, Sterling.”

Tessa and I strolled away, leaving them standing in stunned silence.

The second we turned the corner, she let out a laugh. “That was fun.”

I smirked. “It’s only the beginning.”

By lunchtime, the rumors had reached every corner of the school.

Adrian Hayes and Tessa Davenport—together?

Is Adrian secretly rich?

Did he blackmail her? Bribe her? There’s no way she’s actually with him.

Sophia tried to act like she didn’t care, but I caught her staring at me several times. Her fingers twitched every time Tessa leaned in closer, every time I laughed at something she said.

She was regretting it.

Regretting every word, every insult, every time she had treated me like I was invisible.

And Nathan?

Nathan was unsettling.

I saw him snapping at people, glaring at me across the cafeteria, his usual smug confidence nowhere in sight. His perfect world was crumbling, and I hadn’t even started playing my real game yet.

“Alright, Adrian,” Tessa said, sipping her iced coffee as we sat under the shaded pavilion. “You got your grand entrance. What’s next?”

I tapped my fingers against the table, watching Nathan from a distance. “Now? Now, I make him lose everything.”

Tessa's smile was sharp. “I like the way you think.”

I leaned in slightly, lowering my voice. “And I think I know exactly where to start.”

She tilted her head. “Oh?”

I smirked. “Every king has a weak spot. Nathan's is his need for control. And I plan to take that away from him piece by piece.”

And she’s smiling, knowing her sister didn’t just find love… but found a reason to keep fighting.”Zee closed her eyes, and for the first time since Tessa’s death, her lips curved in peace.I held her tighter, gazing out at the horizon. The battles were over. The wars behind me.Now, with her at my side and an entire nation looking to me, I wasn’t just Adrian the warrior. The dawn crept slowly over the horizon, painting the skies in hues of gold and soft crimson. I remained on the balcony, my arms wrapped protectively around Zee as the warmth of the first morning light touched her face. She stirred slightly, blinking her sleepy eyes open, and smiled at me.“Good morning, Mr. President,” she tea

The happiness of finally knowing that she belonged to me and that I am here. “ I love you.” She whispered.I smiled around the eyes, “I know.” I grabbed her by the waist and planted a kiss on her lips, making the crowd go wide. “ Adrian for the president!” They all kept chanting my name as I walked down the podium. The night had already burned itself into history. Fireworks lit the sky, the chants of my name echoed through the square, and Zee clung to my arm with trembling joy. But just as I allowed myself to breathe, I noticed the shadow moving through the crowd. The figure stepped forward, pushing past the chaos like a ghost. My eyes sharpened. I knew that face.“Tessa…” Zee’s voice broke beside me, her fingers tightening on mine.

Chapter 231The cathedral was still burning with echoes of the fight. I stared at Edwin’s lifeless body one last time, then turned away. His shadow had haunted my family for years, but now it was gone. Dead. Forever.Park clapped a hand on my shoulder, his expression weary yet proud. “You ended it, Adrian. It’s finally over.”I looked at him, but my mind was elsewhere. Ending Edwin was one thing—but life wasn’t about ending battles, it was about building something worth protecting. My gaze drifted to the thought of her. Zee. Her laughter. Her fire. The one who had stood beside me even when I was buried in the darkness of my past.I couldn’t wait any longer. The next morning, I was pacing my room when Park walked in.“You haven’t slept a wink, have you?” he asked, grabbing an apple from the table and biting into it.“Sleep can wait,” I muttered. My chest felt heavy with the decision. “I need to do this. No more hiding, no more secrecy. I’m done letting fear decide for me.”Park narrowe

Chapter 230I slammed my fist against the arm of the couch, the wood cracking under the force. My anger was boiling over, and Park knew better than to interrupt. He just sat there, his eyes steady on me, waiting for the storm inside me to settle.“Protecting her means putting a target on her back,” I growled. “And Edwin doesn’t miss his targets. He’ll come for her the same way he came for Mother.”Park leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “And you’ll come for him. Isn’t that the point, Adrian? You’ve been dancing around this for too long. Either you kill Edwin, or he kills everything you care about. There’s no middle ground.”His words struck me like a blade. He was right. There was no more running, no more waiting for him to make the first move. Edwin had already gone too far. Before I could respond, my phone vibrated violently on the table. The name flashing across the screen made my blood run cold.Edwin.I picked it up slowly, pressing the speaker button. His voice was

Chapter 229At first, we both stood still. Parked looked at me. “Did you hear that?” He asked slowly, walking towards the table that was far from us. “I did, but it can't be,” I replied, even though I wished I was sure I heard correctly. The sound was faint at first, then it came again, the second time, almost like the room itself groaned under the weight of our grief. Park and I turned at the same time, our eyes locking onto the table.Alisha.Her lips parted ever so slightly. A gentle breath escaped, fragile and fleeting, but it was there. My heart lurched inside my chest.“No…” I whispered, stumbling toward her. “No, that’s not possible. She was gone. I—I felt it—”“Did you do something, Adrian?” Park asked with his eyebrows arched. It was not as if it could not be done, but I had never tried bringing anyone back. Did my blood do this?“I only gave her my blood.” Park’s bloodshot eyes widened as he leaned in closer. “She’s breathing, Adrian. She’s… she’s alive.”I dropped to

Chapter 228 When the light came back on, I stared at the empty eyes in front of me. Her blood pooled straight to my feet. I felt my leg weakening. My lips quivered like I had been locked in an ice cave for a long time. The room was silent. Edwin was gone, and so were his men. I rushed to her side and called her name silently. “ Alisha. Can you hear me?” Her eyes were open, staring at me. I felt guilty crawling up my skin. My chest felt like it was going to explode from the pain I was feeling. I immediately cut my skin open and poured my blood right into her mouth. “ Please, mother. Wake up!” I shouted as my voice echoed through the empty room. Her skin was now pale. I felt the world around me collapsing. Everything I have tried to live for, I have built. It was all slowly crumbling around me. I gently carried her up and laid her on the table in front of me. My wound slowly healed up as I stared at her face, whispering a silent prayer. I have never believed in God. Where was
