Chapter 168My gaze was fixed on the theater room Marcus had been wheeled into. I couldn't help but wonder what was taking so long. The nurses kept walking in and out of the room. I rushed toward them each time one of them walked out, but when I asked how Marcus was faring, all they told me was to wait. “We are trying our best, Mr. Adrian. You might need to wait for the final result.” One of them said, I was feeling tired, and I could barely even think. My mind went back to work, Edwin, and I felt happy to have seen the end of him. With Edwin gone, the school would be at peace, and the students would be able to live a normal life. That was my thought. I remembered Ren’s words again. “Did you see him do it?” I arched my eyebrows again. I only saw him fall into the hole when the walls around him were crumbling. Could he have had powers, too?If Nathan was having it, then I believe he could too. The door opened, and I saw the doctor walking out with two nurses flanking his side.

Chapter 167The light around us flickered—fading from brilliant white to a dying ember—as Edwin’s domain collapsed in on itself. The walls cracked and groaned like the very fabric of the dimension was unraveling. Chunks of obsidian stone rained from the ceiling, veins of silver light rupturing like broken circuits in a dying machine.I tightened my grip on Marcus. He was barely conscious, his breaths shallow and uneven, his body limp against mine.“Hold on,” I muttered, more to myself than to him. I needed space to do my thing. Fly. But the debris was falling so hard that I couldn't pick myself up, coupled with the fact that Marcus was heavy. I closed my eyes and focused again. The melody. The rhythm. The pulse that was mine and mine alone. There it was—buried beneath the chaos, like a faint heartbeat amidst a storm. I grabbed onto it and pushed. The light around us surged again, forming a shield just as a massive slab of the ceiling came crashing down. The impact never reached us

Chapter 166Darkness.It wrapped around me like a second skin, thick and cloying. I couldn't tell if I was still falling or already on the ground. There was no sound. No wind. No pain. Just… nothing. Then came the ringing.A sharp, high-pitched screech slices through the void like a blade. My ears throbbed. My head pounded. I forced my eyes open, and was met with shadows. Shifting. Breathing. Watching.I tried to move, but my limbs felt like they were underwater. Heavy. Sluggish.Where was I?My vision slowly adjusted. I was no longer on the rooftop. The gravel, the city skyline—all gone. Replaced by black walls that pulsed like a heartbeat. Faint veins of light traveled through the surface like rivers of silver blood.A prison.Mental or physical, I couldn't tell. Edwin had built this.“You survived the fall,” came his voice again—this time from nowhere and everywhere at once. “Impressive. The last few didn’t.”I grit my teeth, pulling myself to my feet. “Where’s Marcus?” My voice ec

Chapter 165 Flying in the air was different for me now, not just because of the height or the wind slicing through my hair, but because I was no longer just flying for escape or for glory. I was flying to find someone. Someone who mattered.Marcus.I needed to hear his voice. That was the key.Not a tracker, not magic, not some technological gadget—but his voice. Something only I could hear, if I pushed myself hard enough. The roar of the city below was maddening. The screeching brakes of yellow buses, the blaring horns of impatient drivers, the overlapping conversations, laughter, sirens, music—it all came at me in a wave of deafening chaos. The city was alive, loud, and unforgiving, and in the midst of it, I was trying to listen for a single voice. One whisper.“Focus, Adrian,” I said again, this time gritting my teeth. But it was too loud up here. It was like I was a god, and I could hear the cries and the pleas of millions of citizens at once. I was not a hero, and I knew I coul

Chapter 164Silence hung in the air for a very long time as each of us looked at ourselves. Suri sat still, eyes glassy and distant, like she was reliving it all again in slow motion. The rain thundered against the roof above us, a steady rhythm that sounded like a war drum—pounding, relentless, maddening.I bent down and picked up a shard of glass from the floor, watching how the dim light refracted off its jagged edge.“He screamed—like he was burning…”Those words replayed in my head. I clenched the shard in my fist until it bit into my palm, and only when Ren placed a hand on my shoulder did I realize I’d started shaking angrily. “Adrian,” he said quietly. “We’ll get him back.”I nodded once, not trusting my voice. It wasn’t about hope anymore. It was about necessity. Marcus wasn’t just my friend—he was practically family.“Did you see their faces?” I asked Suri, keeping my voice low and careful. She shook her head slowly. “No helmets. Black, with this strange symbol on the side

Chapter 163Rain.Not the soft, soothing kind that made you want to curl up in bed—but the savage, needle-sharp kind that sliced through the air like glass. It had started just moments after Ren’s warning, and now, it was as if the world itself knew something dark had been set in motion.Marcus was gone.Taken.And I could feel it—the way you feel a missing tooth with your tongue or a phantom limb that should be there but isn’t.I couldn't shake off the dark feeling I was having. I tried to remember what happened to Park. How he fell victim to Nathan’s ruthlessness. If they were building us, what then? Are they going to march us off to some kind of war? I wasn't sure, but now, he is gone too. I don't know where to begin the search from or where to look. “How long ago?” I asked, grabbing my jacket and pulling it over my bare chest.“Just before dawn,” Ren said. “He was with a friend, Suri. They’d just come back from a run—she said they were laughing one second, then the next... b
