Chapter 87

I have never been so confused in my life. I was a Hayes alright, but why do I need to be killed by my father's family, and why does my mother need to go into hiding?

Everything was not making sense to me. I landed on the chair opposite me and buried my face in my palm. A part of me is screaming that Ishkid will go back home.

But I know I am going back to nothing, and I might probably have to start from scratch. I might as well stay here and find the truth. Look for my mother, and maybe she might be of help.

I felt like calling Leo and telling him I had done some findings on my own. I wanted to ask Zee if she was now fine, but I was not sure if it was, well, the right thing to do.

Leo was still mad at me, but it wasn't my fault. He came looking for me and not the other way around, so why should I feel guilty?

I picked up my phone and called Mother Alisha. My mind drifted back to Park's sister. I knew she must have been scared.

Chapter 91 I felt the world closing in on me. One thing was certain, I was no longer the boy who was scared of Nathan. Scared of what might happen after I pulled the trigger. I was something more, inhumane. The days went by quickly with Saul’s training me on his to hold snipers, rifles, and daggers. “ You need to know every damn thing I know.” He often yelled at me. Sometimes it feels like I was in a barrack. Where I had to answer to my commander. To me, that was Saul. Sometimes, he was ruthless—demanding, unforgiving. Other times, he was silent, eyes shadowed by memories he never spoke about. But every day, Saul molded me. Stripped away the remains of my former self and rebuilt something else—something deadlier.“Again,” he barked, tossing a loaded Glock toward me. “ If you need to take on what is coming at you then you need to be ready! You need to move fast. Become invisible even in the face of death!” He yelled sometimes that I often wonder how the hell I was supposed to be

Chapter 90I scrubbed my hand with an iron sponge like it was going to make the blood of the man I killed disappear from my hands. I could remember the look on his face. The shock. The disbelief. That kept me asking how Park must have felt when Nathan shot at him. Was that what happened to him also? Was he expecting him to shoot? Was it sudden, or had he anticipated what was going to happen to him?My hand shook slightly as I tried to hold my shaky breath. I had locked the door immediately when we got back. I didn't say a word to Saul through the drive, and he didn't say a word to me either.I was sure he didn't believe me when I said I was going to do it.Kill a man.I don't think he had seen my hands shaking throughout the drive. I hauled it immediately. I got into the toilet, throwing up a few fluids. I looked into the mirror, and it looked like I was seeing another side of myself. The side that would have shot Nathan in the head. Knife-jack him and kill him for the smirk he had on

Chapter 89The following day was a day to remember. It rained cats and dogs. It felt like the heavens were weeping with me. It was the day I was finally laying my mother to rest. It was just me and Saul. We had bought a piece of lamb and I had decided to have her buried. I said some heartfelt words, and my mother was laid to rest. As we walked back into the car, Saul looked at me. “ What next, Adrian? Would you like to go back home? You came for her, and now you have seen her.” Saul's words were like a dagger pressed to my chest. “ What do you mean I got what I wanted? Are you scared?” I said in anger, making Saul flinch. “ Yes! Are you scared? Because if you are, then you can be on your way home.” I said with anger coursing through my veins. “ Do you think I am scared, boy?!” Saul shifted uneasily in his seat. “ Have you thought of what you are going to do if you finally get to meet her? Have you ever taken a human life?” The word hung heavily in the air. I remembered what Leo

Chapter 88A man stood there—tall, broad-shouldered, and wearing a black coat. His face was unfamiliar, but his eyes were sharp. Watchful.“Adrian Hayes?” he asked.I hesitated. “Who are you?” I asked gently with my hand fixed tightly on the door.He glanced over his shoulder, then back at me. “I work for someone who knows your father.”My heart skipped. “Aziel”The man gave a slight nod. “He told us if anything happened to him, we should make sure you are well protected.”I stepped back, suddenly unsure. “Who exactly do you work for?”“Someone who still owes your father a debt,” the man said. “And someone who might just be your only chance at surviving what comes next.”I felt a bit scared. Not sure if it was right to let the man in, but I looked at his face, and he was harmless.“ Can I come in?” The man asked, folding his hands right behind his back. I opened the door gently, and he walked in.“ Thanks.” He said slightly, his gaze glancing around the room. “ You came from a long wa

Chapter 86Marcus was quiet for a long while. The silence on the other end stretched so taut that Adrian thought he might have hung up.Then finally, Marcus exhaled. “You really want to do this, huh?”“I need to,” Adrian said, his voice firmer now. “I don’t know who I am, Marcus. Everything I believed… it’s gone. If there’s anything left that can help me put the pieces together, it’s her.”“Alright,” Marcus said. “Give me some time. I’ll dig around. If this Elira woman left any trace behind, I’ll find it. But Adrian, be ready. This might take us down a darker road than you’re prepared for.”“I’m already in the dark,” I said bitterly. “How much worse can it get?”Marcus didn’t respond to that. Instead, he ended the call with a quiet, “I’ll get back to you soon.”Three days passed. I remained at the orphanage, tension simmering beneath the surface. I barely slept. I barely ate. I spent most of my time pacing or staring out the window, my mind going in endless circles, wondering what kin
