There is a pause at the other end so much that Liliana thinks the call has been disconnected.
On the other end, Wilton Edner is stiff like a man who is tied and ready to be shot. His eyes dart to the security cameras above his office door, and even though he's not at the offer, the paranoia hasn't left. He has heard, even though he didn't experience it first hand, the day the owner came… the air in Verizon changed. No one who was there dared to speak of it. He had called in sick that morning—a twist of fate that sparked him from the silent storm that descended. That day, all phones were confiscated. Every image that was taken was deleted by burly looking men that smell like death. Some say the phones were crushed right there on the floor with their boots. Others whisper that those who tried to look too closely now wished they hadn't… even Valencia, even at this point, there has been no whispers of her name—because she's nowhere to be found. Wilton swallows hard. “Madame McCalls… I—I’m afraid I can't help you with that.” he finally says. He prays no one overheard what she has said. “What did you just say?” Liliana's voice drops, sharp with disbelief. “I mean…things have changed. Drastically. I'd love to help, but it's out of my hands now. The leadership is… let's just say… not the kind of person you want to push against.” “Don't be ridiculous, Wilton! You owe me—our families go back decades. I'm not asking for too much just—” “I'm sorry,” he cuts her off hastily. “Truly. But I can't—” He's already ending the call before she can finish her sentence. Liliana blinks at the phone, momentarily stunned into disbelief! He…he hung up! On her?! She lowers the phone slowly, lips parting in surprise, then curling into something darker. Who is this new head of Verizon that causes fear to ripple across the hearts of men?! Lizzy, who is sitting patiently, sees the change instantly. Her mother's jaw tightens, her knuckles whitening around the phone. “He hung up on you?” Lizzy asks quietly. Liliana doesn't answer at first. She places the phone down gently, as if afraid it might explode, then stands on her feet. “He's afraid,” she mutters more to herself. “And if he's afraid, then this is worse than I had initially thought.” Lizzy feels the hope in her chest licker, then collapses into a frightening dread. Her hands turn clammy. If her mother can't fix this… then…no one can. And all at once, the bitter taste of humiliation returns. Her friends… her rivals… she had already pictured the ribbon cutting ceremony, the soft clicks of paparazzi cameras, the praises, the envy. But now? Now it might never happen. Tears threaten to sting her eyes, but she bites them back, forcing a sharp breath through her nose. Liliana turns to her, expression unreadable. “I'm going to find out who this man is,” she says firmly. “And when I do, he'll wish hell never made my daughter cry.” But mom, that's not the point!” Elizabeth snaps, voice crackling with frustration. Her hands fling up, helpless, her chest rising and falling rapidly. Liliana arches a brow, folding her arms slowly. “Then what is the point?” She asks. Her time is cold, clipped, like an invitation and a challenge all in one. Lizzy sucks in a shaky breath. “The point is that my official company opening is Monday, mom. Monday! And that's just two days away! And I haven't even signed the supplemental agreement. Don't you understand? Without it, I can't move forward.” Liliana's face immediately darkens at her words, heart skipping a deadly beat. Instead of saying a word, she clenches her jaws. Her arms fall to her sides, and for a moment, her eyes go to stare at the chandelier—as if searching for strength in its light. She knows the weight of what her daughter is saying. She knows the risk too. The looming embarrassment. Her own reputation is also on the line too, hanging in between a thin line that will snap if this agreement isn't signed. She had bragged about the launch just last week at the elite women's meeting. Faces she's spent years keeping beneath her heel are expecting to attend this ceremony. If the agreement isn't signed in time, then… then it wouldn't just be Lizzy who falls. They both will and damn it, she isn't ready to face the mockery of the people she knows she is better than! The thought makes her jaws tighten even more. She grabs her phone again with a controlled urgency, scrolling with a deadly focus. Her fingers move quickly, and then she presses a name and lifts the phone to her ear. Damn Wilton! If he can't even help her with something as little as this, there are others who definitely will! Even happy to help her! The phone rings once and when it is finally answered, she goes straight to the point with a voice hard as steel. “I want you to help me with the supplemental agree—” Beep. Beep. Beep. The line immediately goes dead. Swift and cold. Liliana's eyes wide , just slightly. Her lips part in disbelief. She stares at the phone for a beat longer than necessary… then dials another number with swift, sharp taps. “Hello?” She begins, her voice poised. “I need you to assist me with something that's only accessible through Veri—” Beep. Beep. Beep. The call is ruthlessly disconnected again. There is no warning. No goodbye. Only silence. Liliana slowly lowers her phone, her hand trembling slightly—almost imperceptibly—but Lizzy sees it. The moment her mother's legendary control slips. Liliana exhales sharply through her nose. “They are cutting me off,” she murmurs, voice tight. “They're scared of him…” She finally meets Lizzy's gaze, and for the first time in years, Elizabeth sees something unsettling in her mother's gaze. Uncertainty. “Whoever this man is,” Liliana mutters, voice darkening into a low growl, “how is he so powerful enough to make even my name irrelevant?”

Beneath The Silence
Rain still tapped the windows along with the tick of the clock but Andrew stood frozen, his jaw clenched so tightly it ached. His mind was rattled, this was definitely something and the empty spot where the car had been was a clue.He stared at the empty spot where the car had been minutes ago, its absence leaving a deep pain in his heart.“I can't believe all of this." He ran his hands over his face in disbelief as a surge of fury exploded in his chest as he turned and punched the nearest wall, the sharp pain grounding him just enough.“Goddammit,” he muttered, punching out a number on his smart military watch and dialing Mason's number. It rang once. Twice.“Mason here,” came the familiar voice.“I need you. Now. At Verizon. I think we’ve had a breach.”Silence for a second.“Breach?” He stalled for a minute. " What kind of breach?”“The kind I can't explain yet. But someone was here. I saw the shadow on the hallway feed. And now… nothing. They’re gone. I need you to lock down eve
Shadow And Truth
The air inside the Verizon building had shifted and it all started the moment Andrew had spotted the car. For some reason he couldn't just get it off his mind.“Something seems off…” He muttered, taking a step backward. For what felt like a minute of eternity he listened evenly. If he could hear anything with his years in the military, he would be able to pick any slight sound. Sighing he shrugged his shoulders, there was nothing afterall…There was nothing but solace and quietness that filled the room. There was no music playing, no soft hum of janitors working through their routine. Just the dull throb of the emergency lights and the faint creak of something far away. As he moved slowly towards the sounds, Andrew slowed his steps as he reached the fifth-floor landing, every muscle in his body tense at the anticipation for what was to comeSomething was off. He could feel it in the way the building was quiet, too quiet. And he couldn't let it go.He paused again near the fire exit d
Into Verizon
It had been tiring for Lizzy at this point, she was out of options…She had to carry out her most pending plan regardless of what it felt like, risk or not.Looking out of the window of the cafe lost for a while, she took a quick look at her watch.Burke was running late as usual. She kissed her teeth in disapproval before getting lost again in the other world.Outside the sky hung heavy with dark clouds that promised a threat of rain. The Streetlights cast it shimmering light right to where she took every breath and turned at every footstep. She sat at the far end of a dimly lit cafe, enough to be hidden from everyone else but him, her eyes kept flickering between the entrance and the half-empty cup in her hand. So far the place was quiet with just a few sounds from her fingers that tapped against the ceramic mug rhythmically.“What the hell, why is he taking eternity!" She grumbles. She picks up her phone and dials his cell. "Hello, what is taking you too long? Just tell me if…”S
Echoes In The Dark
It had been hours since the team began working, and the energy inside the room was tense, but focused. As they worked tirelessly, only one thing was at the back of their individual mind and that was finding that bit of the missing puzzle:Who was this anonymous man?The question imprinted a deep worry on Andrew who sat at the far end of the room, quietly observing everyone move from screen to screen, map to map, piecing fragments together. The silence in his mind, however, was deceptive. As deep in it, was something else… Something very disturbing that he didn't know how to pin at that moment, was this another plot from Lizzy?Every possibility spun inside his head like a carousel he couldn’t get off questions, half-formed answers, that was racing through the depth of his mind. The thought that someone might be out there wearing his face, using his name, walking in his shadow, disturbed him more than he admitted aloud…Mason walked over, and placed a cup of coffee in front of him.
Return And Revelation
Soon, they left the detention facility behind as the car surged forward. Andrew barely noticed the passing scenery, or Mason's conversation with someone over the phone. Thoughts of what had just happened wouldn't leave his head. After a while, Mason turned slightly to face him and said, "Are you okay, Master? You seem... distracted.""Of course I am," Andrew snapped, and went on to tell him about the person Carl said was posing as him. Mason's eyes grew wider as he listened. "The impostor somehow knew, and then used my security codes before vanishing without a trace," Andrew finished in a low growl. "Without a trace," Mason repeated slowly. "Forgive me but I find that hard to believe. This misidentification thing is just an excuse if you ask me."Andrew nodded. Mason had just spoken his mind. "Yes... I think so too," he agreed. *******Baron was standing outside the building when Andrew and Mason arrived."Finally!" he exclaimed upon seeing Andrew. He heaved a sigh of relief a
Dopple What?
For what felt like an eternity, Andrew stood still at the spot, his face bewildered with shock and anxiety with both feelings leaving him in a thrill.“This is not possible, you should be dead!" He grimaced. He ran his fingers through his already ruffled hair as he could feel a rush of adrenaline through his blood stream that brought his heart beat almost to a halt.“Well, Commander…I must say you are the last person that I was expecting to see here.” Carl turned to the man close to where he was and whispered something inaudibly. The man gave a nod and walked away leaving the two men alone.Carl clears his throat. "I just asked that he reconfirm if we have the right person, there was no way I could have missed your name …” he sighs. " Though I never checked to see who we were going after, you know how it is for a bounty hunter like myself.” Andrew clenches his fist in anger or malice but a sense of understanding at how frustrating the situation was turning out to be.“It is fine, I
