Chapter 2: HER BETRAYAL

Richmond's heart raced as he pulled the door open. Then, he saw the unthinkable and he froze.

At the sight of Jennifer and another boy kissing, the award in his hand dropped making a shattering sound.

Tears trekked freely down his eyes as he stared at them with great distain.

Richmond looked down at his shattered award. Gradually, his anger began to rise to his neck and he could no longer breathe properly. How could she do such a thing to him?

"She had always promised to stand beside me," he thought.

Immediately they saw him, the duo stopped their act. But there was no trace of remorse in Jennifer's eyes. She shot an irritated frown at him.

"How could you," Richmond yelled at her trying hard not to shed tears.

"How could I?" Jennifer fired back. "Did you think I was going to be stuck with you poor ass and your rotten limb forever? Did you?" She fired back.

Richmond was heartbroken by what she said and he limped forward to her with tears falling from his eyes. While Jennifer hid behind her boyfriend, Jake.

He wondered why life had decided to be so unfair to him in this manner. Was it his fault that he was epileptic? Or was it his fault that he had broken his feet and he was poor?

More tears escaped from his eyes as he stared into Jennifer's eyeball. That was the only person he had thought would never betray him. Too bad he had thought wrong.

"But you said you we were always in this together. You lied to me Jennifer," Richmond finally sobbed aloud. He could no longer contain his heartbreak and he had to let it out.

"Well, too bad I had to lie to you. But you gotta be grateful that I was able to stick to your broke ass all those while. I was being courageous you know?" Jennifer shot a evil smile at Richmond.

"How dare you Jennifer," Richmond growled.

"Too bad, I have gotten someone better, Jake, the best boyfriend in the world," Jennifer noted caressing Jake's back

"I will come back for you Jennifer. I will have my revenge by having the last laugh," Richmond swore.

"How are you going to do that, you are so poor that even the poor call you poor. So what can you possibly do for us? Rob off your poverty on us?" Jake mocked.

"Or maybe make us limp like him," Jennifer chuckled imitating him limping.

"Hahaha," Jennifer broke into laughter with Jake as she ended her acting.

Jennifer looked downwards towards Richmond's shattered award and she laughed.

"Hahaha, Is this why you came limping up to me like a dog with broken feet? Limping mond," she mocked.

Her words made Richmond's blood to ran cold. She didn't just call the award he worked hard for a piece of thrash.

His anger soon began to absorb his sorrow and he clutched his hands to control it.

"What is that baby," Her boyfriend inquired.

"Just a piece of thrash he calls an award," she replied.

"Oh! Just look at the look on his face. Why don't I pay him a million dollars for shattering it? I am sure even with that award, he would not be able to make such an amount all his life," he chuckled.

He lifted his wrist to display the costly apple wristwatch he was putting on.

"This cost more than that thrash," he mocked.

Richmond could no longer stand there and watch them rain insults on him. He limp out of the room as more tears dripped on the floor

But the new couple followed him from behind and continued to rain insults on him.

They mimicked him as he limped outside, tearing his heart apart into two halves. And from the midst of this tore heart, tears flowed out.

From the adjoining building, a heartbreak song filled the air, making Richmond to sob even harder.

Then, he felt a hard hit on his neck and he fell to the floor. Blood trickled down from his neck making him roll on the dust in pain.

"My head," he yelled in pain.

While he cried, Jennifer and her new boyfriend laughed at him from behind and cursed him.

But the pain he felt in his heart was a hundred times more than his physical pain.

He limped slowly from the floor and proceeded to fight them. He wasn't going to let anyone make fun of him that way without a fight.

But then, a luxury car worth about a million dollars drew into the place. A drop dead

gorgeous lady drew out of the car and came over to Richmond.

Immediately Richmond saw her, his face brightened with joy. He wasn't expecting to see Rita again, especially at such a time.

Meanwhile, Jennifer and Jake's Jaws dropped, seeing such a drop dead beautiful and rich woman.

They could never even imagine that she came for Richmond.

Rita stared at Jennifer and her boyfriend and she returned her gaze to crying Richmond. She got the message immediately. Richmond had just discovered that his girlfriend was cheating on him.

She had always tried to warn him but he would not listen to her. Now, he had seen it all for himself.

"Baby, I think Richmond has gotten himself into some sort of trouble," Jennifer exclaimed.

"Maybe he is going to spend the rest of his years celebrating his award in jail," Jake chuckled.

Hearing what they just said confirmed her thoughts. Rita knelt immediately beside Richmond and held his hands. She smiled at him, passing a message that only Richmond understood.

"Since the one who you had always laid claim to has deserted you, will you accept my proposal now?" Rita inquired.

"Certainly," Richmond replied gladly. "She isn't worth the wait anymore."

Jennifer and her boyfriend were shocked at the new development. Why would such a beautiful lady be kneeling before a poor limping dog like Richmond?

They tried to get what Rita and Richmond were saying but from the point they stood, they could not hear a word of their conversation.

Then, the extremely rich lady rose and shot a sneer at Jennifer and Jake, making them fall backward.

She got over to Jennifer, whose heart was already pounding hard against her chest. She could not help but wonder what such a gorgeous lady would want from her.

"Thank you," she said, smiling at Jennifer.

Jennifer was shocked at the turnout of things, what was this lady appreciating her for? She didn't remember seeing her anywhere before.

"Why are you appreciating me," Jennifer shuttered. "I don't know you from anywhere before."

"Yes, you might not know me but Richmond does. Anyway, I have been pleading that he accepts me as his girlfriend but he had always chosen you over me. But thanks to you, he has finally accepted me," Rita explained.

"What," the duo of Jennifer and Rita exclaimed.

"Let's go Richmond," the beautiful lady said to Richmond.

Rita held Richmond's hands to support him while he limped over to her car.

Jake held his breath as the beautiful lady walked away with Richmond into her white luxury car and zoomed off. He wished he was the one in Richmond place.

"I must have her," he mistakenly exclaimed aloud.

"Such a beautiful lady," Jake exclaimed aloud mistakingly. "I wish I was her girlfriend."

Jennifer who had heard him grew hot red with anger. How could he be admiring someone while she was standing next to him?

She shot a snare at Jake. "What is that supposed to mean," Jennifer shot a sneer at him. "You are already lusting after that someone you just met," she fired.

"I am very sorry Jen," Jake apologized realizing his mistake. But in the real sense, he wasn't sorry. He wanted that lady now and Jennifer disgusted him.

"You harlot," Jennifer yelled at him. "I hate you," she sobbed as she began to angrily walk out of him.

Meanwhile, Richmond held Rita's hands in the car. He could not be grateful enough for rescuing him from such an embarrassment.

Rita was no random girl asking for his love, she was his cousin born to his wicked aunty.

They only put up that play to deceive Jennifer and her boyfriend.

Richmond had met Rita six months ago. She had also enrolled as a student of Mr. Lugard, the mystery doctor that taught medicine and martial arts.

Streams of tears rolled down from his eyes as he remembered where he was supposed to be if he had not been thrown out of the Villa of which he was the rightful heir.

"Please don't cry," Rita pleaded. "I came here to celebrate you for your award as the best student not to watch you cry," she said, whipping Richmond's tears.

She smiled at him again and pulled a piece of paper from her bag and handed it over to Richmond.

"What's this for," Richmond inquired

"It's from master Lugard. He sends his greetings. And that is the certificate allowing you to practice medicine and martial art while you are in college," Rita explained with a broad smile.

Richmond could not contain his Joy as more tears ran down his. His master finally certified him to practice.

"Thank you," Richard appreciated still crying.

"You don't have to thank me. You have always worked hard for this," Rita returned. "I pray this will help you in your studies as a means of funding. I will be leaving the country soon," Rita announced.

"What?" Richmond exclaimed.
