Cassandra leaned over the desk, her eyes stayed sharp and curious on her assistant.

"Yes, Boss." Chloe, her assistant responded sharply liked she'd done this over and over again.

She continued without asking.

"His name— Carl Blackthorn. An ex-convict.." She said, and Cassandra cut through her words immediately.

"Ex-con?" She raised a brow, obviously stunned at the realization. "What was his crime?" She was genuinely curious.

"You won't believe it, Ms. Cassandra that this man is your sister's ex-husband and the reason he went to prison was because of your sister. Convicted For ten years for the murder of Henry Vernovas."

Cassandra didn't speak immediately. Her leadership mind was calculating fast, his finger tapping on the table gently.

"So, Elira wanted Carl gone from her life so she can marry Henry. Typical of her." She nodded, not really surprised Elira could perpetrate something like that. "It's clear to me he married Henry because he's from a rich family but why will he ruin the life of another man just to climb to the top of the ladder."

Everything was clear to her now. The patriarch favoured Elira, gave her the family business to manage while he stripped her of everything, cast her and her family out after she refused to get married to a man from a prestigious family— a man she didn't love. They wanted to sell her out for clout without considering if her affection was right for it.

So, everything was given to Elira because of her relationship with Henry Vernovas. They're all Clinging to the Vernovas family to climb higher. That's pathetic.

"Elira disposed of Carl because he started seeing him as someone who would drag her down from the social ladder. And with Henry's persistent proposal, She thought the best way to cut Carl clean was scheming a murder and making him the victim..."

".. because if he had filed a divorce outrightly, it'll be scandalous to her career. Smart. Cruel." Cassandra concluded correctly, leaning back into the backrest and swirling the swivel chair gently.

Silence stretched in the executive office for a second.

Cassandra couldn't shake off the thought of Carl from her mind. The way he fought earlier, flooring Henry's men with extraordinary skills she had never seen before.

Henry couldn't have recognized him and neither did she know he was married to her sister. She had been away for a long time in Paris, studying business and technology.

"What other information do you find out about him?"

"Nothing crucial." Chloe retorted. "Just a man trying to survive without a penny to his name. He has no place to stay and Ms. Cassandra this man obviously needs help."

Help?

Cassandra raised a brow.

Carl needed help and he returned the $2 million cheque like he had more?

What an irony.

"Ms. Cassandra, if I'm not too forward may I ask your relationship with him?"

"It's not necessary." She retorted sharply and rose to his feet. "Prepare the car. I'm leaving right away. I need to find him and talk to him."

"What about the board meeting in the next 1hr."

"Cancel it. Till further notice."

"Yes, Ma." Chloe stood Straighter and turned, walking out of the office to arrange the car. The door clicked shut, and silence settled in the executive office.

Cassandra leaned forward with both hands resting on the desk edge.

"So, Elira framed an innocent man, stripped him of his freedom and innocence just to arrive at the top." He exhaled sharply, shaking his head. "She's one hell of a devil I thought I knew the extent she could go."

"I can't let that man suffer like that," She said with determination in her eyes. "He definitely needs my help. Maybe he rejected the money because he doesn't want me to misunderstand what happened in the hotel."

One of the men who dumped Zane's body into the Sea confirmed to Nikolai's statement, his voice shaking with confusion that only deepened without understanding the situation.Romano looked away from them to Zane, staring at him intently. "Who are you?" His voice carrying across the room. "Do you have an idea of the room you just walked into?" "Wrong question, Romano." Zane retorted, his voice slow, smooth and even. "You should ask why I'm here— to kill you.""You rude brat!!" Nikolai hissed, spit flying from his mouth. "How dare you speak to Boss with that filthy disrespectful mouth of yours." Zane scoffed, shaking his head, looking at Nikolai up and down. "You never c

A dinning hall. Fine wall painting, sleek table and bright light. A young girl of about twelve years of age sat at the head of the table, a place of chicken soup in her front. The girl beside her responded with a trembling voice.Sophia's eyes widened in horror."Underground auction?" She repeated, her voice was barely a whisper like the response alone was enough to make her understand that she was in a grave danger. She lost her memory, and now she was about to be sold off to some stranger like a mere object. Her survival instinct kicked in immediately. She patted her pocket frantically, searching for her phone. It was gone. Her stomach sank."They took my phone." "They took everyone's phone. They will probably sell it to illegal dealers." That was the new phone Kade purchased for her the previous day.
