Aiden sat in the doctor’s office impatiently. He was nervous and couldn’t keep his fingers in place, they were fidgeting and he had to keep them busy by scratching his knee. He was anxious to hear what the doctor had to say to him concerning Hope. Was she able to survive or did those beeps he heard from her ward mean exactly what he thought they meant.

“Mr. Aiden.”

“Yes doctor.” Aiden blurted, he couldn’t control his emotions.

“Your daughter, she—” The doctor began and paused, heaving a pathetic sigh and shook his head in pity. Aiden’s heart began to do somersaults, was she truly dead? He was becoming apprehensive.

“What happened doctor? Is she dead?” The words came out lowly from Aiden, like it was a taboo to speak them and with each syllable that came out of his mouth, pangs of pain stabbed his chest.

“No! No. She’s not. She’s alive, barely though.” The doctor stated and Aiden felt a notable amount of his burden taken off him, and he would’ve sighed in relief if her death wasn’t still lurking around the corner.

“We had almost lost her. In fact, maybe we did. But luckily, we were able to use the defibrillators to revive her. But it’s only for a limited time. You need to get the money soon, Aiden. “ The doctor explained.

Aiden buried his head into his palms, where was the light at the end of the tunnel? “Okay doctor. I will get back to you soon.” And with that, Aiden stepped out of the doctor’s office.

At the corridor, Aiden began pondering on what to do, he had no family and his in–laws weren’t supportive. No company agreed to hire him and he had just lost his job at Andersons Law Firm.

Wait…. Anderson’s law firm as in, Katherine Anderson!

Aiden remembered her!

Katherine Anderson. And she owed him.

One rainy night, Aiden had helped Katherine fix her faulty car that broke down in the middle of the road. He never knew she was the President of the renowned Anderson's Law Firm. He was Shocked when he found out after he applied for a job as a security guard in the firm. And Katherine insisted that he was picked because he saved her that night; she was on her way to an important meeting she would’ve missed if not for his help.

She had also offered him money as appreciation but he rejected, saying that he was contended with the fact that he had the job. She wasn’t happy about the fact that he wouldn’t accept her monetary offer to repay his kindness, so she promised me that if he was in trouble, she could help him.

And right now, Aiden was in a deep abyss of trouble and he needed help getting out.

Aiden opened my contacts and scrolled through for Katherine’s name and dialed it. After a few rings, she picked up.

“Hello, who is this?” Her beautiful voice aired on the line and Aiden remembered how soft-spoken and silver-tongued she was, and extremely pretty as well.

“It’s Aiden, Aiden Everton.”

“Aiden? I can’t believe it! How are you Aiden? It’s been such a long time.” She cheerily greeted and her glee prompted a smile on Aiden’s face.

“I’m fine, Katherine. How about you?” Aiden inquired.

“I’m good, Aiden. So nice hearing from you, I actually thought you weren’t going to call me forever.” She laughed.

“Well, I actually do need your help now Katherine.” Aiden began.

“Why? What happened, Aiden?” She inquired and Aiden sighed deeply before narrating everything that happened up till this point and Katherine expressed her sympathy at different points of the story. When Aiden was done, Katherine fell silent for a while.

“Aiden, I have heard all you’ve said. And I’m truly, honestly sorry for everything you’ve gone through. You’re so nice, you don’t deserve any of it.”

“Thank you Katherine.”

“You know what. I’ll get your job back and pay for your daughter’s heart transplant.” Katherine offered and Aiden couldn’t believe his ears. He had to pinch himself to ascertain whether or not he was dreaming.

“Really Katherine? Oh, thank you so much. You don’t know what you’re doing for me, I’ll be eternally grateful for this.” Aiden gushed in appreciation.

“Hold on Aiden, I have a condition.” Katherine said and I paused my elation, wondering what Katherine's condition might be. I would do anything, anything at all!

“What’s that?”

“You’ll have to divorce your wife and marry me Aiden.”

Aiden's eyes widened as Kierra and her twin sister stepped forward, their faces completely identical — their eyes, their hair, theit walking steps, everything was the same and he could hardly tell the difference. He couldn't help but feel a rush of surprise and it was hard for him to digest what was unfolding before him. "Aiden?" Kierra's asked — he knew it was her because he was sure her twin sister didn't know his name. She was the one in a pink, flowery patterned sun–dress and she had her hair in a ponytail. And then, it all clicked – the moments of inexplicable behavior, the occasional shifts in demeanor. Kierra's twin was the missing link, the reason behind the occasional confounding encounters.Aiden, still absorbing the revelation, muttered, "So, you have a twin... That explains everything." That was the reason why most times, it seemed as though she didn't remember him. It was because he met with her twin!Seeing the confusion on Aiden's face, Gabriel decided to speak up

A knock on his office's door knocked him out of his thoughts and he looked up to see Gabriel entering into his office. He came in and Aiden waited for the girls to follow behind him, or at least, Kierra, but nobody else came in. He arched his brows, "Where are they, Gabriel?" he asked. "Well, they refused to come back with me." Gabriel stated and Aiden's brows furrowed in annoyance, and angered scowl sterning his expression. "What?" He explained, shooting up from his chair and banging his fists on the table. "Why would they do that?' "Well, I don't really understand why. But one was rambling about how she felt all of this was a big old scam, and the other one explicitly explained how she was uninterested in seeing your face. She further said that if she had known it was you behind this all along, she wouldn't have bothered to involve herself." Gabriel narrated and that was enough to sober up Aiden's annoyance. The last one was definitely Kierra, she was still very mad at him. An

Melissa's heart pounded in her chest as she swiftly ended the phone call with Anderson. Without wasting a moment, she grabbed her bag, slinging it over her shoulder in a hurried motion. Turning to Cynthia, she urgently instructed, "Cancel all my appointments for today. I'll be out of the office." Cynthia nodded in acknowledgment. The office seemed to blur as Melissa hurriedly made her way out, her heels clicking on the polished floors. She briskly walked to the elevator, her mind racing with a mix of fear and anticipation. The elevator dinged, and the doors slid open. She entered into the lift and the minute long journey seemed to stretch for all of eternity. As she exited the building, the cool breeze hit her face, and she quickened her pace towards the parking lot. Unlocking her car, she hopped in, the engine roaring to life as she keyed it. Her hands gripped the steering wheel tightly as she drove, her mind preoccupied with worries about Nicholas.Of course, it was him.Fidgeting
